I don’t think it matters as long as the tape covers the spoke holes. It’s really there to stop the tube pushing itself against the spoke ends.

Non UST tyres (tubless ready)will work but are harder to inflate unless you use CO2 cartridges. However, this can cause sealants like Stan’s to go hard and form a rubber ball. I now use a Topeak Joe Blow Mountain high volume track pump instead.

I currently have Non UST Schwalbe EVO RR, NN, RRons, Specialized ‘The Captain’, Stan’s Raven and Crows on ZTR, DT Swiss and UST Shimano rims – no problems, but not using BMX tube solution.
