cheers people, not too sure now, maybe just stick another high roller on the back, just fancied trying something faster rolling and lighter but not sounding good tbh as dont want to be replacing both tyres just yet.

Any suggestions on a good rear that isnt going to be bigger than the front maybe even try a 2.1 high roller

thats the thing, i'm after a better all rounder. i'll be honest i bought the ss from the very first batch, but didnt get to build it for several months due to other things, and if i'm honest the price was the killer

i have u-turns and the bike spends its life at 120mm which to me is just right with this bike, dropping to 95mm on only the longest of climbs, but rarely ever see's 140 anymore.

i think the trouble is i have had a long list of issuse since day one with the bike, all parts were brand new for the build, but had problems, 2 bb's in a month (1 faulty straight from box the other crap), and a xt m775 rear brake that is testing my patience to the limits, sticky piston constantly needing bleeding, whereas the front has been flawless, head set has never been right, even though all of the above were professional fitted, aswell as other little issues that have just cloudy the experience.

But tbh i think the main problem is i have spent so much time on the Genesis IO ss and i just love it, i can happily ride anything i can with the 456 albeit slower with a rigid fork, and on the whole just seem to get more statisfaction from it, which is making me toy with the idea of a change, or maybe put the thing on a diet.

Thats half the reason i was wondering if anyone has had both and which they prefered, did they swap back even.

well the geared bike has lately become the 'lazy bike' when its not being called things too im-polite to print on here as its been nothing but trouble.

the singlespeed is rather unimaginativly the'ss'

tend to spend most of my riding at 120 on a 456 ss and never feel its too little

fork has not been stripped, you can just about – and you would have to be looking tbh – notice a slight impression in the seal where the area circled is passing on compression, so i can only see external damage tbh but suspect there is every possibilty of more

that is nice, would love a new stumpy (yeah i can see its an enduro)really liking the new spesh f/s.

well i have some of this stuff in the house already,
    araldite
    this ok,

    cheers

the damage to the seal is at present barely noticable, but i was looking for it, no oil escaping when i work the fork through its travel in the garden which is probably not the most conclusive of tests i know.

    Araldite > any particular one.
Oil > any thing in particular, fork/chain/baby?

Concerned with removing the finish tbh

    go on then…
    wound down..

    wound out…

rides best inbetween the two at 120mm tbh, needs some love at the minute, or maybe a more careful rider :P

i have a set of 525's on the s/speed that are as good as the day i got them, and some xt 775's on the other bike which have to be honest been sh*te, the back constantly needs bleeding just cant seem to get on top of it, have done it with a syringe at the caliper and the bag method

well have just got off the phone to tft and they quoted the wrong side of £200 to replace 8O or file them down which could easily go wrong i'm sure, maybe some super fine wet n dry as 'rabyoung' says. So pi**ed off.

Have 2 and could never justify more (space/family constraints) have the singlespeed and the geared ht, which if i could i would probably replace with a f/suss, but thats not happening any time soon

    RDL – oh hey!

I love the bike! I’m getting rid of the rigid fork purely because I’ll have a Fox float sat around going spare but also, it’s such a playful little bike and it feels like a rigid fork is holding it back somewhat… My guess is it’s going to be a riot once it’s got some bounce up front.

i know what you mean, i was out the other day a the trails were seriously fast, and i couldnt help but think a little bit of bounce up front would of added to the fun, however cant see the boss agreeing to another purchase just yet :D

give me a shout on here or through flickr and let me know what you think when its done.

garylake: how you finding the io now you’ve had it a bit (i’m the one off flickr you was asking) how come your getting rid of the rigid fork?

    Here’s mine:

got a carbon fork winging its way to me, and

not getting as much love as it should at the minute, must get out more

we have gone with AXA and pay £139 (contents only, new for old, accidental damage etc) living just outside of Manchester City Centre, and that includes a £16 premium for adding the Genesis IO as a named valued item that i commute on, so its covered when away from home, which is certainly cheaper than insuring it on its own, happy with that.

Why can’t you have both, I love my ss and use it more than the geared but for the big days out or for the daft stuff the ss stays in. If you enjoy It, do it don’t change for others.

Not got one but if I remember right it was in last months mbr and got a good enough review considering it was up against the p7 which seems unable to be beat in their eyes, so see if you can get a copy.

Samsung Omnia, can’t comment on it but a lad at work has one and he rates it highly and it runs on windows mobile so could handle memory maps no problem.

Had a North Face nalgene bladder and that started leaking after only a handful of times from the cap took it back and the guy in the shop said they have had several come back with same thing got a replacemnt from the supplier and had no problems fir the last 4 months so seems like some bad ones going about. By the way no o-ring on mine.

Got some on both bikes( a nice buy one get one free cock up by the shop) and have had no problems with bolts but the bar plugs are sh*te imo and have lost both on both bikes one even fell out.

A vote for the Giro Hex here comfy light and not too hot.
But at the end of the day whatever you are comfy in and going to wear happily.

I’ll stick in a vote for Halo. Got a set of Freedom dics with Spin Doctor hub and they are very similar in sound and versitility to pro2 with bolt through rear etc but at a cheaper price, will have to see whether that matters as only had them for a couple of months but happy so far.

Spend £35-40 on a hack bike instead and buy a £2 lock?

no room for another bike and leaving it outside the house is just inviting trouble.

would happily recommend it, i love mine, in fact it comes out to play more than the supposedly main bike. I got the 09 through the cycle to work thingy so only paying £380 but would pay full wack after owning it as its great value imo. Light enough responive and fun.

Only thing i dont love is the white forks, but have some carbons winging their way to me, just dont tell the missus :D

    fold up wall mount

got mine from halfords for £9.99 does the trick for me in the cupboard and she can still get her bits in there.
