Which is why I run a tensioner.
Its easy to move a chain from one ring to another. Its rather more of a faff to muck about with horizontal dropouts. I don’t know too many riders with horizontals, but of those I do, they’re always mucking about with them.

Tbh I’d just stick with pure SS and walk/get stronger!

I will be using it for a short commute so the 32:16 will stay as it makes the flat bits almost bearable compared to anything easier/bigger out back.

    It’s slower overall…

I guess that depends really. I ride solo alot so irrelevant. However on a short local ride I do, I can get to the highest/halfway point in 36mins on the ss and 33ish with gears (1×9). I’m bot a rider that like stopping around, I prefer to just ride non stop.

Don’t 29er ratios size up slightly different, or am I confusing something else? That would be about 1.8:1 then?

    I’m on 26″ with a 32:16 traditional 2:1.

Answered your own question ride what you enjoy

I know, I know, it’s just that nagging doubt, once done there’s no going back for the time being.

Surely a dinglespeed is doable sans tensioner with horizontal dropouts.

I’d have thought so, but unless you ran two at the back and two at the front with the same overall teeth (like mentioned in ScienceOfficers post) then it’s going to be a case of stopping and adjust the wheel, defeats the point IMO.

Who said I had two nice bikes ;)

The alfine option would only be if I found I really couldn’t live with the ease of some gears.

A new vibrator has gone on sale it’s so realistic that just before the woman’s orgasm it comes, coughs, farts, goes limp and switches itself off!

I took the wife bungee jumping at the weekend. She jumped first. As her body hit and spread out over the rocks below, I thought,”That’ll **** teach you to lie about your weight!”

    Cheers guys.

Fitness I’m not overly bothered about, I’d say I’m relatively fit and capable of pushing myself if needed.

I enjoy riding ss more than the gears anyway so that’s half the battle.

If push comes to it I can always see about having an alfine rear wheel built up, although the ‘dinglespeed’ sounds interesting, obviously same chain, but are you confined to certain gears so as to maintain tension or do you need a tensioner? I’m running an ss only frame (io) so can’t add a tensioner afaik.

I’d be keen to know as well. Reckon about 1k for the frame myself, less would be nice, more would have me looking else where.

You could email Genesis, but don’t expect much in the way of a response right now, I emailed them about my IO last week and have yet to hear back…possibly due to show commitments, but an out of office auto reply wouldn’t go amiss.

Well assuming you’ve tried all the other USB ports on the computer, hopefully a new cable will work. Have you another computer you can try it on in the mean time.

    Does the unit turn on?
Could try a hard reset…with device off hold power and mode button until unit comes on and asks if your sure (or something along those lines) you’ll lose your history on the device history screen but it will still be present in the devices mass storage so you can import them into Garmin Connect separately if needed.

Can you still view the device as a mass storage drive under My Computer?
Also right click on the ‘unknown device’ go on properties or details or some such, see if a driver is associated to it and delete it. If not try and find the Garmin drivers on the computer for your device and remove them. After that plug the device in and hopefully windows will see a new device and install it.

Can’t be more precise as I’m on phone, and no guarantee it’ll work but worth a try

Tbh that all sounds a bit too longwinded, you might just have a bit of an air lock or whatever. My Joplin gets a bit of a bounce on everynow and then. Have you tried just unscrewing the collar and cycling the post up and down several times then doing the collar back up, usually works for me.

Not had any problems with my Endura stuff (fated that now :-) ) had a Convert II for 2 years used almost daily for commute and offroad duties, and pair of Hummer shorts that have been fine considering the abuse they’ve had, got a Stealth jacket now and fully expect the same. Myabe ive been lucky

    More on the Chromag http://spokemagazine.com/2011/08/30/chromag-go-big/
Not cheap $1475 per frame, limited run, name on the list run. Nice though

That Chromag looks remarkably ‘normal’ I like the look of it alot. Getting very 29er curious at the minute.

Well I would have responded last night but believe it or not, I had bed and work in the morning as opposed to sitting there waiting replies, i can bump it again tonight if it makes you feel better, a little something for you to moan about ;) or you could just get over yourself

This belongs on the classifieds. But you knew that already…

Do I? Pretty certain I asked advice and then had a bit of banter…but then you knew that didn’t you, but in true stw fashion you had to comment

@Gribs. I’m not totally decided what I’ll do with it, it’ll be in the classifieds when I know.

Off roaouster you could quickly get over to to daisy nook/park bridge and have a play on the 4x track in the woods at the back of park bridge (backfield clough iirc), plenty of little lines all over in the woods to play on. From there you could climb up Alt hill rd and on to Harts head pike and then as others have said mossley/greenfield or over to tintwistle way, plenty round there really

Haha, ok i’ll stop trying to tempt you then.

Its more of the issue of whether to buy a hanger or not, i guess it would be more attractive with one, but if i got for example £50 without and £65-70ish with, i’m not sure i could be bothered with the extra messing right now.

Bit more looking around i guess, cheers

Bloomin typical! How easy would that have been?!

I’ll have to see what they go for and price accordingly then…it’s still yours if you want it though, you can never have too many frames, well apart from me at the minute, and tbh I’m nit bothered about getting more right now, unless it would pain you too much to rob me so ;)

    It will be epic.

the best thing you’ve ever done.

Hmm seem to remember being told something like that last time, all i recall was mud and pain ;)
I’ll be there no doubt getting muddy and sore and then a few days later royally shafted of a work mate!

Just the one dent, two pics at different angles. I couldnt care less about the dent, i carried on riding it as if it wasnt there, just cant afford to do anything with it now and its in the way really.

Tbh if your serious I’d probably take £50, no mech hanger remember. You anywhere near Manchester? Save shipping.

Dont see why not, assuming the cranks are 104bcd. I have a Gamut p30 fitted to some XT cranks and the only issue i had was i damaged the chainrings bolts when removing an old damaged bash and the ones i bought to replace where too short at the back so ended up using the shimano back piece and the allen headed bolt from the new ones, guessing the Gamut ring is a bit deeper than some others as i had an FSA bash that didnt have that issue.

    Looking lovely ‘mama’

Take it, it’s a play bike you wanted then…interested in that chain device mashup you’ve created, what parts have you used?

    Enjoy :)

Had a 456 SS for over a year, great bike going down always felt a chore going up. The BFe is great down and alot better going up. I found the 456SS rode a lot better at 120 than at 140 and indeed I’m prefering the BFe at 120.
With a like for like component spec (although not in the pictures) I fell the BFe was/is the better of the two, having said that, it depends what you want. If you just want to balloon about then either, but for a more alrounder I’d pick the BFe out of the two.
Oh and the 456SS is definitely slacker than the BFe.

Already tried restarting (should have said) will try changing the security settings and I suppose totally disable them to briefly test, although it was fine with the Home Hub 2, so would that suggest a dud Hub 3?
Failing that I’ll try a factory reset.

    Cheers

Just checked what I’ve got, I’m at between 70-75 and was told that buy crank bros, if its less then it’s never done me any harm. Maybe drop them a lone to be safe/sure.

Failing that, some thin washers behind the mount, depending on which direction/side the rubbings on. Putting a 0.25mm m6 washer on the Bfe was enough to sort the rubbing out for me as I couldn’t move the caliper enough to get things central.

Did you cycle it with the collar fully unscrewed?
Off top of my head, the pressure should be 80-85. Sure I always put 85 in as my pump always leaks a few psi, never had any issues doing that.

Excellent, the only thing that puts me off GoPro’s etc is the cost, I just wouldn’t use it enough to justify the out lay.

Any links to the case etc? Got an old compact in the draw doing nothing.
Will be keeping an eye on this one :)
