Stupid iPhone auto correct, that should have been ‘committing’.
Mile munching and just general trail riding is the order of the day. No road gaps and awesomeness from me I’m afraid.
Peaks and Pennines and the odd trail centre. It’s become an itch now to try one out and the c2w seems a perfect time to do it.
RDL-82Free MemberWhen I was running gears, I dropped to 1×9 and for the most found it fine, only really on long hilly rides where towards the end I would sometimes want the granny back, depends how much you want the ease of the lower gear at the later stages of a ride or whether your prepared to just grin and bear it. My next will likely be converted to 1×10 as well.
RDL-82Free MemberI know, but when your commuting to something for 18months as our cycle scheme lasts for I don’t want to miss some silly little thing that the big wheels may change with regards to feel/ride whatever that means a bigger size may be beneficial, as I said anyway at the start, probably a silly q ;)
RDL-82Free MemberHmm, cheers, not sure what size myself to get. Ride a 19 now (26er) so a large, which to me feels fine, however I’m 6’2 with a 34″ inside. Worried the 21/xl will be huge, and the bike shop only has a 19/L in to try in the carpark.
Anyway, lovely bike, enjoy.
RDL-82Free MemberVery nice and totally not helping me not get one!
What size is it and indeed how tall etc are you?RDL-82Free MemberAny idea if the position of the grips will work different muscles to having your hands facing or towards the bar? Using the grips u have a slightly different hand position?
I’ll pitch in for now on that until someone else hopefully clarifies…
Palms facing you equals generally easier and a greater emphasis on biceps
Palms facing away equals more emphasis on the forearms and is harder! Better for achieving big man back!
Palms facing each other is iirc just easier all round.
Narrow grip facing or away is easier all round relatively speaking.
Wide grip equals harder and more back work. Not done anything for too long now and keep meaning to restart, jealous of bar and indeed garage to fit it in!
Edit: and a bag as well, doubly jealous…goes off to sulk about lack of space in house!
RDL-82Free MemberIt’s my birthday soon and I really don’t want one, honest!
Some hints may need to be dropped about the house soon I think :)
RDL-82Free MemberI thought they can trace calls (even withheld) to 999? If so then they just need to prosecute those dialling from personal phones, phone boxes will still be an issue with the 50p thing anyway.
Can’t speak for everywhere but last time I rang 999 before I even spoke to an operator my phone number was repeated back to me (I’m operator with-held rather than choosing to ring them and hiding my number). This was Manchester, and is I presume partly a scare tactic for the time wasters.
RDL-82Free MemberYeah I’ve seen the maps, they are posted up at several points around the Vale as well. Some of the spots they’ve picked are lines I play on anyway so it should be a good little play area when finished. Was having a run in there earlier and they have begun to lay some section down already and a lot of clearing has been done in others, just seeing it forming is rather exciting as I’m only around the corner so it’ll be great for quick ones etc and perfect (hopefully) for introducing kids to mtb.
Are you local yourself Matt?
RDL-82Free MemberMy wife called me as I was sat in the pub last night. “I’ve cooked dinner,” she screamed, “And if you’re not home within 20 minutes I’m going to feed it to the dog.” “Woooah! That’s bang out of order!” I said, “It’s not his fault.”
Im just at the hospital at the moment. A word of warning – the Dyson ball cleaner isn’t what I thought it was !
Can’t do anything right! The missus asked me to make her feel young again in the bedroom, but went mad when I pulled out the white wig and cigar.
RDL-82Free MemberForgot to say the ‘garmin communicator plug-in’ is needed if you want to use the garmin connect website and iirc it’s needed for garmin training centre as well.
If you’ve no intention of using them your fine.
Would imagine Strava if you use it will use the plug-in as well to read your device as it can import directly.RDL-82Free MemberGoing off memory here as I used Linux over a year ago. uBuntu btw.
Memory Map works fine under ‘WINE’ or at least version 5 did.
As for GPS devices I have a Garmin Edge 705 and although it would show up with Linux ad you could browse the memory you couldn’t do anything with it as at the time the ‘Garmin Communicator Plug-in’ wouldn’t work under Linux.
If you only want to add stuff to the memory on the device gpx’s for example it should be fine.
As for other devices I couldn’t comment. As to whether all of the above still applies though I couldn’t say, but it certainly was at the time.
RDL-82Free MemberThis seems ok for the price http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem;PdsSession=2c72e8da13a0a5aa46939323fff96a2b?itemId=180987836451&cmd=VIDESC
Or have a look on the Dell Outlet some good bargains on there http://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/InventorySearch.aspx?brandId=7&c=uk&cs=ukdfh1&l=en&s=dfh
Got the daughter a touch screen laptop off there, should have been £400 but we paid £200 because it had been marked in manufacture. When it arrived it took us a good 30minutes to find this supposed mark. Iirc the marks can only be in the outer casing, screen, keyboard, touchpad area are all perfect. Depends how bothered you are about a possible mark.
As an aside they come with no backup discs, which seems par for the course these days and you have to make your own when first setting it up. However I rang them up on the off chance I could get a proper copy and they sent me the discs for free.RDL-82Free MemberNice to hear the truth! Who/which bike please?
Orange 5 at a guess.
RDL-82Free MemberThe above and two others were sat in Castleton Goods earlier.
Can’t beat bouncing around in a nodding donkey (142) all day though
RDL-82Free MemberI find it reasonably accurate when compared across a bunch of us
I’ve found the opposite tbh. I’ve set off side by side with a mate, and been 3minutes quicker to the top, yet Strava said he was quicker!
Only difference being I logged my ride with my Garmin and he was using the iPhone app.
Anyone else have issues using Garmins with Strava?

I found these to be great, not sure if 10spd compatable though as i was using it 9spd > http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Gamut-RaceRing-Chainring_35671.htm
Renthal’s are supposed to be good too.
RDL-82Free MemberMega Trail looks interesting, be keen to know what the price will be.
RDL-82Free MemberFor putting music on the iPhones and daughters iPod we just use CopyTrans Manager > http://www.copytrans.net/copytransmanager.php
Simply a case of drag and drop and it copies the files over, can be used for pictures/pdf’s etc.
There’s a version on the download page that doesn’t need installing, which is the one we use.Windows Media Player for ripping duties, seems perfectly adaquete to me.
RDL-82Free MemberThe trouble with that review is they are comparing it to a camera that costs £295, it’s unlikely it’ll perform as well.
The user reviews however are more positive. For me the trouble with Go-Pros etc is the cost. It’s just too much for me to justify on something that would get only occasional use.
RDL-82Free MemberThese might help…

Can download gpx’s as well if you’ve a means of viewing them.
RDL-82Free MemberUp and over Blackstone Egde. Across M62 motorway bridge, White Hill (Marsden Moor) then…
This is a nice run into marsden http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=400320&y=412330&z=120&sv=400320,412330&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=660&ax=400320&ay=412330&lm=0
Coming back you could come up past Castleshaw Reservoir over towards New Years Bridge and Dowry Reservoir. Then PBW over to Readycon Dean Reservoir over towards the A672 then turn left to the pub and back onto the track to Piethorne Reservoir and over to Littlebourough under the motorway bridge.
Done bits around there so not the most knowledgable of the area but a quick look at the OS around those points should help out. I’d link more maps but street map is a pain on the phone!
HTH a little
RDL-82Free MemberEndura MT500?
Keeps me more than warm enough…can be too much some times on those days where it’s just wet rather than cold and wet.
RDL-82Free MemberWhat size inside leg have you got? I’ve a 34″ so according to on-one I’m fine in between both sizes, but going off my height I’m a 20″ on the site.
Leaning towards a 20″ really, I think now, I always feel if there’s too much post showing them you’ve got the wrong size, maybe just me though.I think a test is definitely going to be in order first this time.
RDL-82Free Member600 vs 602 on the Scandal.
Seat tube length matters if you don’t want 3ft of seat post sticking out the top!
Geometry is relatively identical 70.5/73.5 vs 70/73 on the Scandal.
RDL-82Free MemberCheers for the pic ‘skyliner’.
Bike looks ace and not as ‘big’ as I was expecting. Still want to get over to On Ones premises but I’m thinking it’s more sensible to go with the 20″ chances are I won’t be getting another chance to change it for a bit if I get an 18″ and start to feel its wrong.
RDL-82Free MemberI’d have gone straight for the 18″ however before going SS only I had a 19″ Bfe which is closer to the 20″ Scandal bar seat tube of course and I have to say its the best fit I’ve had, just can’t justify that sort of money right now on frame alone plus want to keep things more ‘xc”.
Pics would be ace mate, especially if its a raw.
Cheers
RDL-82Free MemberSeriously tempted by a 29er just can’t justify what would then become essentially a full build.
Had an 18″ summer season when they very first came out and that felt fine at the time, different uses/purpose in mind there though plus I can’t find the dimensions anymore to compare.
What made you feel the tt was cramped? It’s practically the same length as the io (in my case) and thats never really felt cramped to me, had you come from something longer?
RDL-82Free MemberWell I’d like to say i’m in, but am I being a bit dim or can we not sign up at the site (places count down leading to confusion) :?
RDL-82Free MemberGenesis IO would har to be second hand now unless you can find old stock somewhere, without looking I’m sure they only do Alfine equipped IO’s now.
I’ve had my IO since 2009 and it’s my go to bike (3 others have gone by the way whilst this has stayed), can’t explain it, it’s not got those cool slack angles that people seem to feel they need to ride of a curb these days, but I just find it great.
For £800 though you could build something decent enough, that’s the route I’d be looking.
RDL-82Free MemberI’ve got the exact same forks as those in the link and you’ll see they’ve got sag markings on the right leg, 80mm, 100mm and on mine you can see that it carries on past the seal to presumably 120mm, so i’d say that its almost 100% likely that yes there is a spacer fitted for 100mm and adding/removing will alter the travel.
HTH but the only way you’ll no for sure is to try, as there may be some OEM ones around that are fixed, however i’d imagine they wouldnt have the different travel sag settings on the stanchion as they wouldnt be needed.
RDL-82Free MemberHave an 09 IO thats out lived 3 seperate other bike builds, its just the bike that gives me the most satisfaction…just treated myself to a Reba for it so hoping its even more grin inducing.
Also Genesis are very helpful with any queries etc, would not hesitate to buy another <longing for Grapil details to emerge>RDL-82Free MemberSuspected as much, but wanted to get opinions…the Recons are almost as expensive and some of the Manitous are around that area but I’ve no experience of them…the Reba’s looking good to go then really :)
RDL-82Free MemberLiking these…another bike to add to the ever growing list of possibilities :)
