I was going to go Gisburn on Sunday, but think I’m going to go here instead.

If you were after a full/big day out Gisburn may be better as this is only the smaller skills area opening, the main trails across the road in Clayton Vale are not due to be finished until mid May, although when they are finished they will be well worth a visit, as they are coming along great with some very nice sections already :D

    Anyone else coming ?

I’ll be taking the kids before they go back to school.

Skills section in Philips Park opens this Sunday if anyone is interested.

Saw it earlier today and it looks great for the little and big kids alike!

Yep this one is within the ‘Sportcity’ area with the Velodrome etc

The other is as you’ve said in Prestwich.

The Philips Park in question here is not having trails, they are in Clayton Vale which is across the road. Philips park is getting a pump track and skills area.

Estimate for the Clayton Vale main trails is May.
Estimate for the ‘Philips Park/Clayton Vale’ part is March.

Cant say whether those dates will slip, but they were given to me from one of the workers I was talking too. They are working on it Monday – Friday so good chance it will be pretty close to being completed on time.

STWer meet up when it’s finished? It’s 5 minutes if that from me.
    I’d be up for that.

Great news! This is on my commute route.

Snap! Can’t wait for some extended commutes home :)

Looks great. There any dig days or anything?

Sadly not. It’s all being being undertaken by Architrail who are also doing the work on the Glasgow Commonwealth XC course.

Work is progressing at a great rate in the Vale and is starting to look very good, think people will be surprised at what they are doing especially for a site that is 15 minutes from the centre of Manchester.

Work has just started in Philips Park too on the kids/skills area…

About to enter some park land on a night ride. Group of girls sat on bench pipe up with…
“I hope you get raped up the arse”
Was quite stunned at the time and failed spectacularly in thinking of a witty response so just carried on with a shake of the head. Made me smile afterwards though the little sods.

    Impressed with that.

I tried for a little while, didn’t really work for me at all (E13 ring and XT clutch)

See how it goes then I guess, when I get out there properly again.

Anyone successfully running just a Shadow+ without a guide?

I’ve set mine up with a unramped 36t and an XT Shadow+ with chain as short as possible. Only had two rides so far and everything seems spot on and unlikely to be going anywhere…so far!
Not got to ride anywhere really rocky yet but done a few jumps and stuff without dropping.
Wondering whether anyone else has stayed guide less..

Chain line on the new XT double is 48.8mm versus the old one of 50mm

    RDL-82

If you getting all the new XT 10 speed stuff then they do a double specific front mech to go with the chain set and the new shifters have a switch under the front shifter to change between 3x or 2x.

RDL-82 – m771 refers to the 9 speed 48,36,26t variant which is different & you cannot fit the m770 composite middle ring onto them

My bad. I’ve definitely seen 771’s referred to as 10spd though but most shops seem to struggle to get the facts right half the time!

    RDL-82

Don’t see why not iirc the m770 was the 9spd and they changed it to m771 for 10spd but it kept the same chain line so likely just a rebadging on old stock etc.

Got to be black…but then I always buy black because white might not look right on my next frame…change far too often!

General rule is an unramped chainring, but see no reason why the one you’ve got wont work.
Bash would be personal choice but I never bothered.
And the 15t would be personal and depend on where you are riding. I happily ran a 32:16 in Calderdale/Peaks/Saddleworth. Wasn’t always ideal and occasionally resulted in walking towards the end of a ride on the worst hills, but some of that was me being out of shape!

I may be missing something but see no reason for the cranks to matter as the spacers at the back will allow you to tweak the chainline a bit. You may need some shorter chainring bolts if you haven’t already btw.

How high or low will depend on the frame though. On the steel frames I’ve had in the past the chainstay/seat-tube/downtube were always skinny enough for me to bring the mech low enough to have the 2mm/penny gap, but with the aluminium frame I’ve got now I can’t bring the clamp low enough before the cage hits the chainstay.
Moving the mech up results in pretty poor shifting tbh. That however is with a 32t middle as its what I had, with a 36t + I may have got better results.

Shimano agree with zee Germans! http://bike.shimano.com/publish/content/global_cycle/en/us/index/products/mountain/slx/product.-code-FD-M675-E2.-type-.fd_mountain.html
E-type as no details listed for the top swing, can’t see them being different though.
The plot thickens then, come on someone, put us out of our misery :)

Merlin were cheaper when I got mine the other day, unless your making a bigger order and using a voucher of course. They list the 2 and H.

Not got a Blur however I have been looking for BB mount devices myself. You can get the TRS+ in BB mount, you just replace a BB spacer with it.

    Pricey though.

    Was going of this tbh…

SLX 2×10 mech listed as 50mm chain line…
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=83158

XT 2×10 mech listed as 48.8mm chain line…
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=69484

Not sure on cranks, I’m personally using XT M770/771 with a 50mm chain line.
Have stuck a single ring on for now but like you still curious to know.

Used to get the Tog24 ones before our local store closed. Used to be 2 for £20.

Are they still going on the high street/out of town complexes?

So what’s the difference between the 10 speed SLX and XT 2x FDs that makes one a double specific design and not the other?

Well when I asked the LBS which would be better out of the 10spd 2x SLX or XT he said the SLX as well. The only thing I can see is that the XT is for a 48.5 chain line whereas the SLX is for a 50.

Be curious to know more myself.

    RDL-82

Would probably just grab the SLX tbh as was only intending to go 2×10 until it wore out then go 1×10 anyway. May just strip it off now and sell the bits as fitted/unused.

Will have a play later and check the bits as others have said first but leaning towards just swapping now, should break even after selling rings and mech.

I may have imagined it but I seem to recall Loco off here saying the Dual Airs could still be adjusted internally with the spacers but the new Solo Airs can’t an need a new air spring to adjust the travel.

Really tempted by those myself but really can’t justify it this month.

Same boat and same bike! Beyond those cheap Revelations on CRC mentioned elsewhere today I can only find the Manitou Tower Pro’s on CRC I can’t find anything that ticks all the boxes for less than £400+.

Been looking at these myself. How much better is the RCT3 over the RL? What’s different about it and would most of us even notice? I’ve spent pretty much the last two years rigid so not that up on the nuances of suspension.

No, after the first 2 or 3 sprockets they are different. So they are all 11-13-15 say and then become different for the rest.
They are/were listed on Shimanos site.
