Well according to customer services they were having some ‘issues’ that affected some transactions. Assured my transactions went through so will have to see.

Hmm, time to see what eBay say then.

I like that, was very close to pushing the button on the red version, still tempted to now!

Sorted now, ended up clamping in workbench (need to sort a vice out). Stubborn little bleeders!

Suspected it’d take some force just not this much! No vice at home unfortunately, will have to persevere.

Feeling the collective pain. Been off for about 6weeks now, ruined everything planned, not touched bike and have missed Stockport 10miler and looking like the Lancaster half is not going to happen either. Everytime I feel getting somewhere its knocks me back out. Have taken a week off work to just chill and hopefully its done the trick. Healing vibes to all.

Slight highjack… How necessary are people finding swapping out to a 16t as well?

Wouldn’t say no to that if its still available.

    Cheers.

    Who were you using?

Always used paragontapes off eBay and never had any issues.

Purely speculation but the maybe the update somehow confused your location and you got the wrong ‘radio’ or a localized one based on your location at the time and once home it spat its dummy out for some reason.
The factory image would have reflashed radio amongst other things (2 or 3 before it flashes the OS iirc) and maybe that’s put everything as it should be.

All a guess of course! Strange though. Lollipop has not been a smooth transition for many it seems.

Scored 4017 Nexus 5 running 5. With screen brightness at full and volume at half. Good/bad, don’t know but it generally gets me through the day.

@nickjb you probably can via the factory images which are readily available and flash via adb. Not 100? sure though. XDA forum would be the place to check.

You don’t have to swipe from the padlock though unless it’s showing as closed which would have required you to press it first anyway. If it’s showing open as is default then you can swipe up from anywhere in one go to unlock. At least that is all I have to do.

    RDL-82

Two swipes to unlock lock screen. Three presses/swipes to get to settings.

Drag two fingers from top then tap the cog.

Not sure why you need two swipes to unlock, I obly need one. Is the padlock on lock screen showing closed or open? If its showing closed it will take two swipes but default is open and one swipe.

Liking it so far, only real criticism is loss of silent, had no issues with any accounts etc but then I flashed the factory image for a clean start.

Only app I’ve had issue with so far is mixcloud but you can’t blame google for a lazy app develop as the previews were out for long enough.

If metal is wanted then I’ll be htc m8 or galaxy alpha, can’t think of others. Don’t know whether they are similar size but most will argue that the galaxy will be full of crap! Assuming you want to stay android and wish to avoid all the OEM install stuff you will be wanting googles nexus range or Motorola which is damn as near it stock.

Can recommend the nexus 5 but it is plastic!

ES File Explorer ‘claims’ to be able to back up apk’s (the format of android apps) whether it works or needs root access I couldn’t say but might be worth a shot as its a free download.

Well when recently changing from a moto g to nexus 5 when I put my google details in on first startup it proceeded to basically mimic everything off the G to the 5, so assuming the hudl uses Google and not its own system Google should have a back up on their servers. Pictures etc will of course depend on whether you have set up sync though, and on the new or restored device they will be shown in the gallery but in the cloud rather than on device (in my case at least).

Can’t comment on whether games will lose their save state as didn’t have any. I did have to sign back into everything however.

All phone related of course but the hull is android so should be similar…I think!

Got some of the new Sennheiser CX 3.00 £15 over budget if the £30 is fixed. Pleased with them so far, don’t seem biased in any one direction and seem pretty balanced. No inline remote though if that’s a consideration, but a non issue for me.

The SoundMagics as mentioned above got to be worth a look too. What Hi-Fi have had them as best buy at under £40 2012/13 and the new version with remote best of for 2014. Would have had a dabble myself but needed/wanted them now!

3 kids in and for the most recent one who is now 18months I had a really hard time which led to issues with the missus too as she was getting worked up with my different character from the first two.

She was born unfortunately for me at a bad time (although not when we planned it, I just had the opportunity for a different career and couldn’t turn it down as it would make all our lives better) and I litterally watched her pop out kissed the missus and went to work so absorbed in what I had to get done over the next 12months that I gave her no real thought which looking back does upset me somewhat, but I have the rest of her life to make up for it.

Do I think your a bastard or whatever? Well if you’d have posted this when I had just had the first or second then probably, but having gone through the above then not in the slightest. I’ll echo what others have said, babies are pretty crap at first and it’s in no way helped by the constant care you need to give, but when they begin developing they are ace.

Hope you get to a happy place, it’s so worth it.

@drac Thats why I said if you ‘dont’ use iTunes its a pita. No issue if you do.

Can second the moto g. Pretty much vanila android and decent support/updates.

I’ll go with depends! But more likely no, especially of you don’t want to use iTunes for updates etc as ios8 was in the region of 6gb or something silly ota for the iPad so assume iPhone similar and you will end up deleting stuff just to update.

To fix it look at the calculator instructions (which you kept, right )

Who needs instructions when you have the STW hive mind!

I wonder how many of the kids let on that their parents are doing their homework? My parents were both teachers – I had to do my homework myself!!

There is no ‘doing their homework’ going on. This is not understanding why a calculator gave a specific answer and finding out why for future work. I had to do my homework myself too, but some help and input would have been nice though at times.

Makes sense and is something I’ll work with, with her.

Yep MyMaths is the one, not impressed with it myself but that’s the way it is it seems, at least on paper you can show workings out and any errors can be picked up and addressed by teacher.

Well done for facing upto that and coming on here.

I’ve zero issue with asking, plenty of knowledgeable people on here, and if making myself seem stupid helps me help my daughter then so be it, anyone who thinks negative has more issues than me!

@robbo whilst I can understand your argument/point at this time it’s counter productive if she can’t explain or understand why she has that answer.

Depends if the question asked for the answer to be in its simplest form.

The question was simply written 4 divided by 10 =

Assume after this discussion either 0.4 or 2 over 5 would have been accepted, however the homework wasn’t written it was online as nearly all the homework at her school is so no way of knowing if it would have accepted 2 over 5 or wanted it decimalised. That’s something I will raise on parents evening as I feel the home works give very little guidance or support for parental input/help if as a parent you don’t outright understand the work anyway.

As a result it looks like dad as well as daughter will be making use of BBC Bitesize!

Cheers all for the help, now to explain it to her!

    RDL-82

Guessed at it being halved but seemed to simplistic to me! In what situation would you give the answer in that way versus decimalised?

    RDL-82
    Free Member

Yep it was in ‘math’ mode. Next question then if you will be so kind.

What’s ‘math’ mode and also why is 2 over 5 also right for future reference.

    Cheers.

My Moto G slowed down a tad but the specs are nowhere near as good as the Nexus so suspect you’ll not notice.

Can’t comment on the Logitech one however demoed the Harman Kardan one in Richer Sounds and was left rather unimpressed by the sound (mp3 quality and other arguments aside) it was just very low in volume and rather poor sounding. Was plugged into an Arcam FMJ and some Monitor Audio BX5’s from memory.

The LG soundbar we have recently picked up which also has Bluetooth built in is far superior sounding which surprised me.

Obviously that’s of little use if you’ve a good stereo set up you want to take advantage of. I just ended up buying an RCa to 3.5mm cable instead for a damn site less for the occasions I want it coming out the stereo. Will probably pick up a dedicated DAC at some point.

Appreciate that might not help too much but from personanal recent experience I’m not sold on the BT receivers such as you mention, I tried.

    Moto X supposedly great too.

Might be worth holding off on the Nexus as the next version is allegedly around the corner and rumoured to be made by Motorola this time. Rumours, spy shots and all that mallarky suggest a 6inch + phone however so depends if that’s too big for your tastes.

Not after anything musically stunning…it’ll be playing MTV etc at the most for the kids!
Music is taken care of with some Cambridge Audio 651series separates and a pair of Monitor Audio BX2’s. It really is just about improving the TV’s everyday sound, I know people seem to want thinner and thinner with no bezel, but I’d happily take some depth and a bezel if that meant improved sound. Just have no idea about this stuff!

Cheers all, some bits to consider and look at.

Tbh 5.1 is pretty much a no go. So it’ll be 2.1 or Sound Bar. Need to find a sound versus pound compromise. For the amount we watch, sometimes won’t even turn TV on all week, there is no need or real desire to go to excess.

Misus is leaning more to a Sound Bar for ‘look’ so I’ll see if I can demo some of those I guess.

Could stretch another £100 if it was really worth it, however we watch very little TV really plus wasn’t really planning to buy a TV in the first place…can’t complain after nearly 10 years though!

Was thinking 2.1 as we could work that with the space/room layout but 5.1 etc would be an issue unless mounted all together like 2.1 which would kind of defeat the point I imagine.

Seen this, which should allegedly be circa £300 down to £165 but no reviews.

Like that. Seriously considering swapping out my HT for a FS but it will need to take my tapered 130mm Revelation as can’t justify a fork too.

    Off to scout ads again!
