I’ve got 2 DHX 5 coils, I think they’re great shocks, had no reliability issues (oldest one is 2005). The best thing for me is that they are home seviceable – no nitrogen charge & no stupid service costs.

We flew to spain in october with BA & seriously struggled with the 23kg weight limit (36lb bike, 2kg bike bag)problem is heavy stuff you want to put in hand luggage is concidered ‘dangerous’ so has to go in bike bag. We ended up booking one additional piece of checked in luggage between the four of us to meet the weight limits but that cost us another £18 each. If you had a light weight xc bike you’d be ok with 23kg limit.

Just booked with them again for May, think this will be my 12th trip with them. Great riding, company & food, oh & the pool felt pretty warm last october.

It is adjustable by removing the cover & adjusting the bolt on the band around the sprag bearing, dont know if the XTR is adjustable in the same way

My 05 Turner Six Pack cracked recently at the top of the seat tube at the weld with the top tube/seat tube brace. I concidered geting it welded up locally but on the off chance I contacted Turner & they offered to replace the seat tube, reheat treat, repowder coat & new decals & bushes for $350 – not sure what I’m going to get stung for on taxes yet, but I’ve just had an email from them saying its at the powder coaters, so I may get it back soon – I cant wait.

Just ride mine until the whole lot is completly shagged, sprockets like death stars, chain rings like shark fins & rollers falling out of chain, then its time to replace the lot.

I’ve been building all my mtb wheels with silver dt revolutions for the last 17 years. I’ve probably had a dozen or so break in that time, but always somewhere in the middle of the spoke & theres always been previous damage to the spoke that has fatigued. Not had any other problems despite using them for inappropriate wheel builds with alloy nipples, eg: king hubs, mavic 325 rims, 225/205 discs with 4 pot calipers

I’d give Ciclo Montana a call, they ride in the same area as switchbacks, will do as much climbing and decending as you want & Marks wife Jacky would probably do seperate rides to accomadate your mums requirement. Great riding, fantatic company, accomadation & food, well worth a visit.

Panaracer tubeless outside repair kit for me, fixes punctures quicker than replacing a tube & if youre running a stans type kit you dont want to be trying to seperate your tyre from the rim strip on the trail as this causes dummy spitting moments & sealant everywhere. It even fixes the tiny pinch flat holes at the bead.

I always use one spring softer than the fox chart says for my weight on my 36 van rc2’s & my 32 vanillas. I find the recommended springs too hard.

Can’t you screw the threaded tube back into the housing & nip it up & then wrap a piece of old innertube around the cylinder to give you more purchace to counterhold the cylinder while trying to undo the shaft cap. I had it happen to me once with either the main cylinder or the piggy back chamber but I got it undone holding it with the innertube.

You’ll probably get away without changing any seals, mine lasted 6 years having had 1/2 a dozen home oil changes before the shaft seal started to weep.

DHX 5 coil is pretty simple & instructions are available on mtbr in suspension forum by Nick_M2R. I’ve bought complete seal kits from someone in the usa via ebay (not available from Fox) for about £16 for two kits. Not sure about home service on DHX air though.

Been going to Ciclo almost every year since 1998 & off again in October. Been with various other companies in the alps & Dolomites, not tried any others in Spain though, but keep on coming back to Ciclo, the overall package is the best I’ve been to.

should work, but only if your shock is mounted with 6mm bolts.

I used Rudy Project with rx adaptors a few years ago, did’nt find the extra weight a problem but I did find they fogged up pretty badly & were terrible in the rain with water running down 2 pairs of lenses. Eventually gave up with them & now just wear normal every day prescription glasses – far better in my opinion, less protection but far less misting & miles better in the rain.

never got on with the stick string type repair but have had great results with the panaracer outside repair kit. Same principal as the sticky string but using strips of rubber,& has lasted until the tyres worn out.

I’m running the BETD 15mm coversion in my 13/14 year old chris king discotec front hub, except they only give you one adjusting tool with it and you need two.(at least you only got one when I bought mine several years ago)

Reading the code is the easy bit, anyone can do that with the right equiptment, but correctly diagnosing the fault can be time consuming.

got two sets of kings, a pair of isos (9years old) & a pair of discotecs(14 years old) – have had to replace the freehub bodies on both rears as the ring drive splines wore out. Other than that only a strip, clean and lube a couple of times a year. Don’t think thats too bad really.

Get the ‘grip lock’ version from aspire, far better than the standard ‘o’ ring type, not sure if evolution even sell them yet. Got both of mine from aspire, about £18 each, no duty, arrived within about 5 days.

Go for ’05 onwards, these had stronger gearboxes & haven’t suffered the fuel pump breakup problems of earlier models. 1.9’s can suffer siezed injectors should they need replacing, 2.5’s seem to suffer very few engine problems. Have seen a few injector problems on 2.0’s, no siezed ones yet, but they do need programming to the ecm. All models can suffer with clutch pedals that stick 1/2 way down, this is usually a leaking clutch slave cylinder – located in the bellhousing & requires gearbox removal to replace. Electrical faults seem to be fewer on later models but a regular problem area for broken wiring is the engine harness just above the gearbox – often caused by someone leaving the harness support bracket off when refitting the gearbox. There did seem to be a batch of duff front suspension lower ball joints a few years ago but I haven’t replaced one for a long time now. As someone else mentioned, track rod ends can sometimes be shortlived. Stay away from the semi automatic versions- they’re horrible & very expesive shoud you need to replace the MTA actuator assembly.

I think there was an RC30 that used the wider Rc36 crown & offset drop outs, it might have been a trials fork. I think the normal RC30 leg spacing is too narrow for discs.
