    Well my list reads mostly of those things I already have but are well used and in need of a refresh;

Camelbak to replace my years old mule
    Troy Lee Xc gloves
    Leatt knee pads
    Wind cheater jacket
A pair of those fake Oakleys of eBay with changeable lenses

Perhaps one of these? The reviews are worth a read if you’re not convinced.

Turner have dropped the 5 Spot. It’s no more.

The new Burner has pushed it out of the line up, as it’s effectively the 650b replacement. Will be a while before I can upgrade my Spot to this.

Raceface narrow wide, 11-36 cassette, zee fr or SLX medium cage shadow plus mech and SLX/zee shifter. Job done.

+1 for MyHermes. Just sold a load of stuff on ebay and posted via them, all packages went fine.

If you are going to get a narrow-wide and a clutch you should at least try with no guide on both bikes imo.

This. Not dropped a chain yet personally. Unless the prophet is used as a mini DH in which case you may want a guide for the added security, but I’d suck it and see before shelling out as sorts of defeats the point of clutch & NW.

Oh go on then, 5 Spot here too, Absolutely love it, I would very much like a go on the 650b Burner.

Ahh, the mallet, the cause of and solution to many bike related problems.

Good luck, just need to pluck up the courage to attempt mine in search of the elusive creak.

Have you tried the turner forum on mtbr? A most excellent source of advice and frequented by Mr Turner himself. Alternatively email turner support via their website. I had a response on another matter fron Dave Turner quicker than on any of the forums.

Have a look here. The Mikkosan method is what I am using with my reverb. Worth a look.
Some nice pictures of a chain/chainring?

Oops, ipad copy and paste error.

    Let’s try again now.

Some of the Black Library stuff is good, specifically the Gaunt’s Ghosts series by Dan Abnett and also the Eisenhorn trilogy (can buy a as a single omnibus).

Krakow is great, been twice. Take a walk up to the Wawel ( the big castle thing). Loads of interesting churches and things you can drop into if you walk round the city. Also has the largest city square in Europe iirc. Lots of cellar bars. Genuinely the cheapest European city I have been to.

Pic of spacing to fit 32t on SLX double chainset

    razorrazoo
    Full Member

By the way I recommend using double chainring bolts if spacing the ring from the SLX double spider.. I used the bolts that came with the chainset first off and they worked loose really quickly. The longer double bolts fit fine with the spacers and the extra thickness of the narrow wide ring.

And that’s not even taking carp fishing into consideration…

I take it you’re referring to overnighting in pursuit of the ‘big one’, that get stupidly expensive. Newer commercial lake carp fishing is like your trail centre riding. River fishing is like mastering natural trails.

My house (in the middle of suburban SW London) backs onto a small shallow river which had some decent size chub in, was great to just spend an hour or 2 after work trying to catch them. Shame Thames Water decided to let a tidal wave of sewage down it a year and a half ago. They’ve restocked but it’s going to take a few years to get anything of decent size in there again :(

Not sure, but the narrow wide rings need a 104 BCD so the spider is required, whole point of a narrow wide is to remove the need for a guide.

This guy has a 32T on an SLX double. He ground/filed the inside of the tabs slightly, I spaced mine, but pic shows it can be done.

    Topic here

For spacers I used these. I used 2 x 0.6mm per bolt as was not sure what spacing I would need. So if you are buying you will be fine with 1.2mm. I used the bolts that came with the chainset.

Tucker nice pin, are you Chris Yates in disguise? Whilst I appreciate your point on the merits of a true centrepin I’ve not had any trouble with BB pins such as this . Fact being that like bike gears you very much get what you pay for but most can’t justify a JW Young pin (what I would see an XTR equivalent). Also like bike gears newer technology has brought reasonable performance to the masses. In fact my newer pin is vastly superior to the older style pin I also have (rapidex).

I’ll defer to your superior knowledge on the use of the name Avon to describe a rod, however I’ve never seen a description of a traditional Avon rod that describes a specific test curve despite numerous debates in Angling forums where most refer to a number between 1 and 1.5. Certainly there is an element of marketing in the use of the name these days and for the OP the advice would be to look for a decent quality ‘Avon’ set up in its modern guise.

Scandal – no problems so far.

Matter01, I assume you mean the latest SLX double specific crank? If so yes but for 32t ring you will either need to file the tabs slightly to give clearance or use 1.2 mm spacers between the tabs and chainring which is what I am doing with no problems. If going 30t he raceface ring has spacing machined into it.

Peter pretty much sums it up. An Avon rod is great, the John Wilson ones are good value and as they come with different tips they are really versatile and can be use for float, ledger and feeder fishing. I also have Shimano reels, great quality. Beware though, as they are cheaper than bikes it won’t be long before you have a load of different rods and reels for all applications.

If you feel up to it a centrepin reel is also a nice addition to the kitbag for trotting on rivers, but can be frustrating to get used to. Decent centrepins can be had from about £40.

the last *bike* I bought was four years ago.

About 12 months ago I built up a new bike by buying all the bits second hand and putting it together myself

That’s how I roll, and I sell the old bits to justify the cost to MrsR. I’ve built practically a new bike in the last 6 months and she’s none the wiser.

I’ve not bought a full new bike for about 15 years. Always been get a frame and bolt on the old bits and upgrade bits over time.

In fact looking at Scapegoat’s pics again my set up was different. I had grip/reverb/brake/shifter on the LH side. Worked fine as per my previous post and would put the brake lever nearer your grip if required.

I set my SLX brakes up for one finger braking from day one (previously I used 2 fingers on my Hopes & Avids) so the reverb button pretty much fitted in the gap I had anyway. I thought it would take me ages to get used to single finger, in fact took about 5 minutes as braking power and lever feel are both good.

Before going 1×10 I had my shifter mounted in the same way as described by Scapegoat (I was running SLX brakes and shifters – the only compromise was that the shifter sat slightly lower and access to the thumb paddle was a bit less intuitive), personally for me this is preferable to the way alphabus has his set up as I used the reverb more than the shifter and to have it right next to the thumb is handy.

Now with 1×10 I still run the reverb button in the same place rather than inboard of the brake lever where the shifter was.

Some of these courier companies (City Link in particular in my experience) are a complete joke.

CL guy that delivers round here puts packages on the doorstep, knocks (assuming someone will come to the door, see the package and take it inside) and then drives off, no signature, delivery slips etc.

Friend of mine owns http://www.birdmtb.co.uk they look nice and sorted
Just checked out the Fb page – looks promising.

They’ve had good reviews from those that have test ridden. Bikes look proper nice in the flesh too and the guys have spent loads of time getting the geo sorted. Would be top of my list if I was shopping for a HT.

Renthal sent me out a whole set of bolts FoC a few weeks ago when I emailed to ask the bolt size as had lost one, complete with stickers and instructions of how to fit properly which should avoid creaking (need to grease bolts when assembling). Top company.

    As posted in previous thread;

On the pickpockets front, make sure you avoid the groups of girls who tend to be nearer the bottom end of Las Ramblas during the evening. If you’re a target they’ll be all over you in a harassing sort of way and if you don’t have your wits about you wallet, watch, phone etc will be gone. Don’t think the whole place is like this, just be aware as last time I was there, (albeit on a stag do so lets just say some were none too complicit) a few of my friends were robbed.

To add one girl was just pulling one of my mates by the arm and had his watch off in the process. I just walked round with my hands in pockets and barged my way through.

Miss Stickler and you miss the Bridge of Doom and ‘Rock Garden’ of death 8O

Personally I think it’s a good skills building trail as you need to get into the flow for it to work. I often set challenges like riding it without braking or concentrating on entry and exit points at corners.

One to the right of Babymaker is Axle Run (there’s a big rusty axle at the top if you look close enough. Never really used now but was the first DH run at Swinley (back in the day when Z1 BAMs were considered a DH fork).

Some of the newer trails do have official names but none of them have really stuck yet.
