its hard to see for sure as a lot of the reviews are in german and translating them into the english, you get statements like the suspension is lush, but not in rocks, or similar so hard to understand, their range is a lot better looking now but am mainly concerned about fit and suspension action – in the SW one has to do a lot of pedalling to earn the descents, so efficient pedalling is essential

    anyone got one?

just been looking at the Stanton Switchback – shorter chainstays, shorter reach, possibly more playful with a better quality steel frame (all 631) they look lovely, but are a bit pricey. anyone had any experiences?

Ive followed your thread roverpig, your flaremax looks lovely. I get your point, its well put. A bike that makes you feel confident will make you push more therefore making you a better rider.

This is interesting. Im after a bike that is easy to lift/pick up over trail obstacles easy to manual, pop and jump. Outright speed is not the main goal. It seems that the longer the bike the more stable it is, but less playful it is. With bikes growing in length (and im not picking at Cotic) the harder it will be for less skilful riders to engage with them? Other than become a high speed ‘copilot’?

That guy is definitely going big in that video!

I think i need a test ride. These long bikes look super stable which is great for fast and steep but down in Devon its often not that steep but can be tight and need maneouverability is key

I like the idea of these, some people seem to have commented on the slackish seat tube suggesting climbing ability miggt be compromised over those with steeper angles. Whats your experience flaremax owners? And what did you compare it to?

I got 1 for christmas. So far kept me completely dry and warm. Great ventilation which actually makes a difference.

Im in a large. 5’10” with broad shoulders. Wouldnt want anything smaller as would be tight across shoulders. And for normal wear (if you wanted for walking) i can get a thickish jumper underneath

Cut is v short at front which feels odd initially but that might just be the long tail giving odd proportions. Is useful for getting off back of saddle though.

Fell if 1st time i wore it quiet heavily. It took it fine.

Overall a great bit if kit that i love and will wash carefully. Orange also keeps you visible when riding on road

When i found out we were having our 1st I did the cost of raising a child research and was nearly sick. I now have 3 and love every minute. I used to do long haul holidays throw big parties etc but i cannot now and i dont care. Im lucky if i can get up at 6am on a sunday to got for a quick ride!

Surely it would be better for them to raise children in an environmentally aware way if that is your concern rather than not having them.

Imagine if they followed your advice then regretted it? Would they resent you for that ‘pressure’ you placed on them?

voters remorse starting to come out. this has been put up on my local news site:

    https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/news/news-opinion/brexit-leave-voter-writes-emotional-2316172

it is interesting to see things start to turn – i hope this and others things get more coverage. there is still a large number of people to whom leave means leave and toe hell with the consequences. I think it will be too little too late however

Met mine at my ex girlfriends birthday party. Which was awkward. We were ex’s at the time. I didnt know but she wanted to get back together. And my ex asked for a kiss, i said no i want to kiss her!

Pub was called voodoo lounge and has been demolished now. We were sad when it went.

14 years and 3 kids later, still going strong & yea moment i met is burned bright in my mind like the faithless guy above

How about a genesis croix de fer or tour de fer? Both can tak gull guards and rakes the tour de fer is a croix but with them fitted. High quakity reynolds frame, super confy will last an age and frame is worthy of an upgrade or 2 as parts wear out…

    phil,

no i didnt but i’ll check it out!

    How do you quote here!

funky dunc, i know what you mean, however as a family we are raising (or at least trying to) the kids on the importance of being aware of our impact as a species, to this end, we dont fly, try to eat seasonal food, are eating less meat, consider where our purchases come from. we do hand-me-downs on clothes, toys, bikes etc. don’t get me wrong, there are LOADS of other things that we need to do to get better, but having children in itself doesn’t (in my humble opinion) have to be an environmental disaster

re the outlander, seats won’t fit, and once battery is discharged its shocking on fuel. should have said it does 10-15 miles about 4-5 times a day

    ravingdave
    Full Member

    Why electric?

95% of journeys are short 10-15 mile round trip. It would save a fortune in fuel tax etc. It’ll be part of me ‘doing my bit’ and demonstrate that to my kids.

Before everyone says just ride it my wife doesnt ride and cycling with 3 kids 5 and under is not very practical!

Yea had a quick look at env200 does seem rather basic in many regards. Not that we care for soft touch plastics, the leaf springs are a touch out of date!

Yep 1 and the same. Used to live at the bottom of those woods/hill as a child many years ago.

Yea jumps may still be there. Cavanna homes own the site and have secured it up tight but arnet building anything. I live near that quarry now on otherside of the lake.

Some interesting stuff coming up here. Never knee abiut the descent by the pylon. Heard if nutcracker but dont know the route…

Hooe woods! I live close to those. Some nice stuff in therr its just short due to their small size and nature. Good for a quick blast for an hour or so.

    Sounds lovely! Where is it?

Mansbridge and balment seem to cover the southern dartmoor/plym valley area. Looked at a few with them. Didn’t seem special, just thats their geography. Depends where the house is i guess. None of the fees will be cheap and if moving to a potentially more expensive part of the country saving 5k or more could be very helpful so ourple bricks could be a good choice….

saw this and I think a little bit of me died!

rather than encouraging a more active life style for the children to help tackle childhood obesity they focus on the negative, not to mention they have no right to implement such a policy off school premises.

lots of people here saying what a stupid plan it is, why not email the head and tell Mr Amin your thoughts: office@stanleyhighpark.org.uk

so many positive ways they could improve:

cycling proficiency as a before/after school club

    awareness training

campaign to council for 20mph limit or cycle lanes,

    encouraging letters to parents

    etc

    etc

    etc

my wife did one for our Canadian visa application (she was lead applicant so had to do it) she said it was dead easy and finished about 3pm, well before the suggested time of 6pm. most of the people their seemed to be applying for a visa to remain in UK, rather than leave!

Oh man! I do hope not. The plymouth store is in a slightly odd location but does have parking. The are staff are enthusiastic knowledgeable pleasant people and have become my go to LBS as a result. Brought 2 bikes, loads of parts and servicing from them. Always been super helpful. I wish them all the best and hope the staff are ok

I missed the my lads bike bit. Sorry.

I had 2 tough casings, and pulled some shoulder knobs off causing them to fail in tubless set yp and revealing the casing bekow. I had 1 which was a ‘race’ tyre and came as standard on my pinnacle. I pulled that completely off the rim on a bkue at BPW in a rock garden. I think that wasnt a tough casing though

Thanks guys some very useful posts. I’ll read them in more detail now. We like to do things as a family rather than splitting up, other countries ride from a very young age, cant see the problem with it myself provided we take the necessary precautions, hence the post.

The tout terrain looks amazing although im sure its expensive! The babyschale seems affordable and as we will ride in a group 1 of us can akways keep an eye.
