I went to samoa on honeymoon in 2008. We stayed on Upolu and visited savai’i. We went for 16 days. Stayed in a very small ‘resort’ in a fale on the beach and hired a car for trips further afield.

The place was amazing large enough to explore and need a car, small enough to do it all. Beaches were unbelievable and deserted. Flight was 26hrs via LA. Came back via Auckland.

Now i have kids and watch moana(!) It takes me back there. Everyone was super friendly the place we stayed at was badly damaged in an earthquake

Agreed, triviliaising the issues young girls and boys are getting from seeing some of the sick porn that is available, the disturbing content from some ‘contributors’ and the horrendous mental health impact that has to finding a mag in a hedge in the 80s is rather distasteful.

The potential issues you highlight are a potential major issue for the UK, but so is the 1st issue i raised above

I am not IT literate at all.

Ive read most replies on this thread, and almost all doesnt make sense. I can jist about use word and excel and IT never interested me

I also have some young kids growing up and about to join a world of horrible social media, pron, abuse etc.

What is this legislation aimed at? Was it originally to prevent kids seeing/accessing stuff they shouldnt? Wasnt it out credit card details in to get onto a pron site? Has it creeped in scope to a much larger more wide ranging issue?

Sorry i am a luddite! But interested 😉

Just went onto the autotrader app to view this and i think it will be a disaster!

Filter by electric and you get Bianchi, Bergamont and Brompton electric assist pedal bikes alongside BMW electric motor bikes.

I was at least ecpecting the electric assist bikes to have their own header, or at least correct filter! Just reinforces the view that electric assist bikes are the same as electric bikes with a throttle

And i dont even own or want an e-bike, but can see their environmental benefit

Just make sure you speak to the surveyor and agree their scope clearly.

Also agree any caveats and limitations they intend to pur into report before you start.

Finally, if conversion is finished ask for:
    BR sign off
Listed consent, its conditions and sign off
Planning permission, its conditions and sign off

If not complete then i would ask to see these documents understand what the conditions are and where the developer is with those and pass to surveyor for review on site.

    Hope this helps,
    A surveyor!

The bike has felt relatively comfortable so far, not too harsh at all.

Ths wheels are WTB’s i25 light KOM which is their top alloy rim which weighs 460g, on vitus hubs. Im guessing there is no one area where weight be massively and easily chopped. I will prob lose the bar, stem and seatpost for higher quality lighter items. But expect the drivetrain adds some weight, but is expensive and a bit pointless to upgrade

I put mine on bathroom scales (so I had to hold it) and got a very inaccurate 10.7kg. Some have said it weighs 11.7 when CRC says 11.1 (perhaps the tubeless difference). I am quite happy regardless of weifht. It rides light turns and accelerates easily

Im in the same predicament after building an extension. I demolished the garage and built a new lounge and 11m2 utility for all the garage crap. It works, but i need bikes on the wall.

Dansat, I’ve looked at loads of racks they all seem to have a compromise of some sort. Will you have a spare bedroom they could be put in? Pain to go up and down stairs but if straight might not be too bad. Take out understair cbrd? Utility that could be ripped out/converted?

    @wwpaddler
, do you have those velo hinges? It looks interesting alternative to the steadyrack that works out expensive when i need 6!

    @tall_martin
I’ve had the pro bike rack been that was top of my list based on storing 6 bikes, looking neat and not costing the earth!

I need to store 3 kids and 3 adult bikes, sorry for hinack dansat!

Im 175cm on a medium. The reach is good (i started a thread about this bike titled ‘vitus rapide hardtail’ and got some really useful replies on sizing from people.

I wouldnt want any bigger so a large may well suit you.

I plan to add a rigid carbon fork with mounts and use those strap on bottle mounts you can get for more versatility and to use a full size frame bag but carry a bottle under downtube

I’ve just got the vitus rapide vr hardtail. Paid £810 in a flash sale. 100mm sid sl, deore 11spd, light wtb wheels.

Been out a bit, ideal for long gentle amd comfy long distances. Also great at turn n burn stuff through the woods!

Downside only 1 bottle mount, prob max 2.4 tyre clearance. Not seen any used either

    Cheers,

I live near dartmoor, so it is very popular for wild camping. I have been out for evening/night rides before, and popular bits (like sheepstor) can sometimes look a bit like a campsite!!

I like the sound of an ultrasonic alarm. Will look at them. I had thought of a slim, small cable lock to fix to tent. Need to find some options now

Im just looking at pack options for it now

I had a bike on order with CRC (Vitus Rapide) and then they did the extra10% deal linked above. I emailed on the off chance and they gave me a voucher for the difference, £90!

They couldve said tough luck, as i bought under those t&c’s so im very happy with that – ive always had good service from CRC

Such amazing news! I am off to buy a small tent. Cant wait to take kids to the moor for a night under the stars. It makes a huge difference to know that your activity is legal especially when done with little ones.

Agro-gravel?! I guess i should work for a cycle marketing team! It was some BS phrase I made up (or saw written somewhere) but essentially:

I got a gravel bike in the hope of making little loops near me interesting as my 140mm FS dulled them all and the tarmac linking bits were too much hard work. The gravel is great on the tarmac and simple stuff but i have no confidence at all on anything a bit steep or lumpy, so think the most xc of xc bikes might be better. I also want it to open up some bikepacking options for me

Thanks all, i wasnt planning to add a dropper as i have a bigger bike fir thay sort of terrain/steepness thay needs one.

The large comes woth a 10mm longer stem so will be 25mm longer overall out the box, but i could fit a shorter stem to bring that down if i needed i suppose

That looks massive! The route also looks like you go up the A38 after plymouth which i would personally avoid! Super busy A road, with some fairly poor sight lines for vehicle drivers.i would go along A379 and adjacent B roads and hug closer to the coast. You will also get a good campsite which is cheap near slapton sands. Can be found on pitch up alpng with soem other good ones. All depends on what facilities you want?

I had some bits like this machined by btec. Whether they are any cheaper though i couldnt say. I expec they would need your frame too

So my sleeping bag has just arrived. It weighs 960g inc stuff sack, which is about right for PX website which states 800g exc stuff sack. The seams are all neat and tight, am actually looking forward to using it!

I’ve just ordered one (the 400?) It was reduced even further. I meant to buy the cheaper one, but accidentally got the more expensive one! 😅

Genuinely hope it’s OK as am bikepacking with it early July 😳😳

Done it, and as I stand by my comments and views I did it in my own name.

The risk is that if there are too many silly names he will declare the survey ‘corrupted’ bury the results and start another – which is suppose is still fun!

    I have a toyota RAV4 coming and I cannot wait. 1st SUV.

it will be the ideal family car for us. The s max is getting on and is very thirsty. New s maxes no better really as not properly hybridised.

The rav4 is a plug in that toyota say can do 60miles to a charge (journalist I watched did 54, official Inc motorway is 46) I can get 3 kids in which we couldn’t comfortably do in an e class, so an SUV became the obvious choice

As a local this has made me so unbelievably sad. Loads of memories wild camping up there. Stopped for few years due to little kids. Oldest now 9, was thinking of introducing them to it. Can’t be dealing with range hassle when I have a little 1 in tow.

F*ck the tories and the corrupt mates.

Maybe it’s time to move to Scotland, as a nurs emy wife would gey a reasonable pay rise and no higher ed fees for kids either

I think they will (should) be treated a bit like diesel vehicles and clean air zones introduced in built up areas.

No massive harm in rural areas where they appear to be very useful, if not close to essential for some people.

No need in a major town where pipped services are available
