Anyone my broader point is folk keep aspects of their culture when they move be it brits having roast beef and reading the sun in Spain
Yes, but very often some aspects of other peoples culture are agreed to be incompatible with the country they move to.
A bit like Brits being arrested for shagging on Dubai beaches.
rattrapFree MemberYes – you would have thought that the existence of a first, second and third Afghan war prior to Herrick might have been a giveaway
In the words of the Princess Bride – ‘never get involved in a land war in Asia’
(with more than a hat tip to Lord Montgomery of Alamein, Hansard 30th May, 1962)
rattrapFree MemberAha – cheers – actually, thats exactly what I’ve decided to do – which as a self avowed right wing nutter has been somewhat of a huge change I can tell you. It gives me no pleasure at all to find out that the difference between working (on a not too bad, but bike industry, wage) and not doing so is so small, actually, I think its absolutely F’ing shocking – but sometimes you have to know when to put your own family first, stop kicking and join the rest of them 👿
and please don’t feel sorry for my circumstances, I’ve got the best thing in the world – a wonderful daughter who I am going to get to spend more time with and help her, and time to ride my bike when she’s at school 😀
Remember DrR – Glass half full!
rattrapFree MemberInfant circumcision anyone?
Male or female? After all, one is socially acceptable, the other is an evil throwback to past times and is banned…
ahem!
rattrapFree MemberI’ve witnessed Halal slaughter in a countries and places where the kind of equipment used to stun large animals is not available.
What, they don’t have access to a poleaxe?
I mean, they’re hardly 21’st century high cost technology are they…
rattrapFree MemberThing is, DrR – if you stopped working then it would be a mahoosive change in your lifestyle and expendable income, think about how much worse off you’d be!
Whereas in my shoes – single parent carer for a disabled daughter – do you know how much worse off I would be by not working 9-5 and going on the social? I did the sums just the other week, taking everything into account
73 quid a week!
a lot less of a change in lifestyle and expendable income I’m sure you’d agree. What would you do in my shoes?
rattrapFree MemberYes, add it onto the mortgage – but, and I say this constructively as a word of caution, please make sure that you have a written agreement that it affects your respective shares in any equity in the house, as you never know what might happen in the future.
rattrapFree MemberI think you should read up on Halal and Kosher butchering, before making such stupid statements.
Well, in his support – I’ve stood in the room three feet away from the operator while its been done
and bearing in mind that I’ve killed hundreds of animals in the course of my own work, and been present for the death of many more – frankly, I think that unstunned halal and kosher is **** barbaric, its a travesty that we have not banned it.
rattrapFree MemberEconomic growth – post war – did indeed benefit everyone, and raised living standards for everyone. Right up until we had the joy of thatcherism foisted on us
rattrapFree MemberHave to say – I’m a little disappointed with their new website
would be much better if I could see what they’re actually selling in store since so much of the range is seasonal – rather than them offering to sell me a speedboat.
current in store special offers here:
rattrapFree MemberHow do you guys get the best out of it?
Wait till there’s an offer on something consumable, that you’ll buy anyway – and stock up on it for 6 months plus.
I’ve still got 107 toilet rolls in my cupboard for example, and I haven’t bought any since before christmas 8)
rattrapFree MemberEdlong, No – but they are at least the current resident population.
A bit like the vast majority of current residents of Texas are not native – but you’d hardly suggest holding a binding referendum of Comanche and Wichita indians allowing them to reinhabit the entirety of their historical lands and throwing out everyone else would you?
Nor for that matter would I think you would support the USA handing Texas back to Mexico.
rattrapFree MemberIf you are not sure of the prescription details – clarify before dispensing. Don’t dispense based on a stated condition
One of the lessons of human error analysis – errors don’t happen because because people are not sure, people make errors because they are sure – but sometimes see what they want to see, rather than what was actually there.
I don’t think anyone is proposing dispensing on a stated condition – its there because if the condition does not match the medication, it provides a safety net to prompt the dispenser to check with the GP.
rattrapFree MemberWhat the others have said – Pharmacists are highly skilled professionals, and it puts an extra layer of safety in the system – especially where prescriptions have been handwritten rather than printed!
Its a great example of teamwork – Your local pharmacy works in tandem with your doctor to ensure the effective and safe use of the correct medicine, whats not to like!
rattrapFree MemberThe difference from the referendum Falklands residents is that there there are no residents of the Chagos islands.
regards ‘native islanders’ – there aren’t any, the islands had no indigenous population when it was colonised, with contract plantation workers, so nobody can claim to be a ‘native islander’.
rattrapFree MemberSeems strange that they supposedly got a letter in the post sacking them while they were away – no hearing or anything, that would normally mean an automatically unfair dismissal.
which leads me to suspect that there may be a lot more to the story than we’ve heard.
rattrapFree MemberWhilst the immediate conclusion is that it would result in less harm to health, the studies have failed to account for reactive behaviour by problem drinkers.
The only people this would effect significantly would be problem drinkers, and if you price them out of legitimately sourced alcohol, then what you’re doing is forcing them into the arms of the bootleggers and criminals who are already running illegal stills and selling industrial solvents on a horrific scale.
the health implications of an expansion in black market booze dwarves the likely benefits.
rattrapFree Memberand some other interesting examples at Stuchbury hall farm – BOAT and ORPA – both of which you have a right to ride
rattrapFree MemberDanw – yes, its not very clear – it would basically indicate the existence of a ‘waymarked’ route like the ridgeway – but part of the ridgeway is footpath only, while other stretches have higher rights
rattrapFree MemberGenerally, its just a farm road.
i depends to some extent on how up to date you mapping is, as there are often higher rights that are not shown on the OS map, such as ORPA.
a lot of councils have the definitive map online now, which an reveal some more tracks.
rattrapFree MemberI though the real trick was to wear something really noticeable and shortcut round the course to the top of all the big climbs and feed stations, and then be sitting there having a rest and a cuppa when people come past you – if you get your timing right, then you’ll catch the same riders repeatedly, who will be left wondering how come you keep passing them!
properly messes with their heads that one 😈
rattrapFree Memberold fashioned tick tock clock and a hot water bottle wrapped in a blanket
rattrapFree MemberI know that Huhne has been in parliament for a good few years now, but I reckon he’s not looking forward to his next meeting with ‘black rod’
rattrapFree MemberWow – thats brilliant Julian
you’ve just critisised someone for using a biased source with your comment “peerless paragon of politically neutral reporting”
Yet you yourself have relied for much of your attack on a report by another “politically neutral” source in the form of 38 degrees
Even better than that – the 38 Degrees report on the health service reform relies on an “independent” legal opinion by a QC
And just who is David Lock QC I hear you ask?
Funnily enough, he’s the former Labour MP for Wyre Forest
Outstanding!
And, even better, what did he say in his maiden speech at the house of commons?
The market beloved of Adam Smith and the Conservative party is an amoral device, and many issues in health care require moral decisions.
Impeccable!
You couldn’t have relied on a better impartial source of opinion to base your attack on, could you Julian?
rattrapFree MemberNo Checkw – you must have missed the memo, Labour are all ‘send the buggers back’ again now…
rattrapFree MemberI challenge anyone to post a convincing argument to vote Labour or Conservative right now.
rattrapFree MemberI find that what they really don’t like is when they’ve measured up and start trying to play the game, you tell them that you’re getting three quotes, and if theirs is cheapest, they’ll win 😈
rattrapFree Memberapostrophe pedants rejoice!
Do they?
Or did you mean to say “Apostrophe pedants, rejoice!”?
rattrapFree Memberone thing worth remembering is that if you pay 12 months in advance for your BT line rental, (line rental saver) then you’re saving about five quid a month.
and you can still use this with infinity etc.
rattrapFree MemberWhy leave? better for you and everyone else if it gets put right!
Given the safety issues you’ve listed, you owe it to your workmates to report it, before one of them gets hurt.
rattrapFree MemberAlso depends if there is might be a deeper reason why you’re leaving your current job
if, for example, you were leaving your current job because you felt that your employer was in fundamental breach of one of the existing T&C’s of your contract and felt that you had a case for constructive dismissal, then their breach would mean the contract is no longer enforceable in its entirety, including the restrictions.
that may be a hint!
rattrapFree MemberGood point DD
Tell you what – we could expand the idea, hows about we make people on benefits work there manufacturing them ‘forced labour’ style?
and we could get them doing the cleaning in hospitals as well!
better than making them work at Poundland and Tesco, and subsidising private sector profits, isn’t it?
rattrapFree MemberIMHO there is no place for profit in certain sectors as it is about quality rather than profit.
But where do you draw the line with the NHS?
Pharma companies? are they allowed to make a profit from the drugs they sell to the NHS?
computer software companies? hardware companies?
medical equipment manufacturers?
the companies who make ambulances?what about the ones who make uniforms and blankets and beds and floor polish and cotton wool and food and bandages and plasters and hand sanitiser – ad infinitum?
all these people are ‘profit making’ NHS suppliers – do you think that the quality would be higher and costs would be lower if these services were all taken in house?
Should Kimberley Clark be nationalised on the basis that they are making millions of pounds profit every year from the NHS? or is it true that some things are just better sourced through private sector manufacturers/suppliers with a specialist background, even if they do take a profit in the process?
rattrapFree MemberGraham Norton isn’t quite the same as Wogan.
Indeed – I reckon they should get the bloke who narrates ‘come dine with me’ to do it!
