We have a government ruling without mandate, which we did not vote for.

    Who’s we?

Without the West Lothian question the Conservatives would have won a majority of 21 seats in the 2010 election!

Why have we had Scottish MP’s voting on English matters? Thats truly people who we did not vote for ruling without mandate!

Roll on 2014 indeed – its win-win for the Tories!

So, riding along a road, on the side you are meant to be on, is ‘riding like a cock’, is it? Ok. With such contempt for cyclists, what are you doing on a cycling forum?

Aha! It is Mike Connor 😀

And you haven’t denied the Gopro, have you NuFred?

I’m middle class and live in an affluent part of London

Ah, I was right about the petty bourgeoisie class warrior then 😉

Guess what – the world doesn’t stop at the M25, and some of those people might actually drive their cars outside of London as well (here be dragons) – you’ll never believe this, but other people live even further away in the wild desolate parts of the country beyond Surrey, where there are trees and everyfink, and they might have a 4WD to get around where there are no gritters or bus services. some even put tools and dogs and bales of hay and sheep and things in the back – amazing, isn’t it!

Admit it, I’m right about the Gopro on your helmet for commuting, aren’t I?

Which of the totalitarian EU’s directives/laws would you reverse?

Metric weights and measures sale restrictions

I want to still be able to go into the shop and get a quarter of rhubarb and custard, then next door for a pound of sausages.

Its my right as an Englishman!

Plus the girl looks at me funny when I ask for 454 grammes of emulsified high-fat offal tube!

Yeah – trouble with them is they don’t last long

Seems that far too many London 4×4 van estate sports car car owners do so because they want status symbols rather than looking beyond their own noses

    FTFY

I had a stupid woman in an Audi tank screaming at me because I was on the road riding like a cock

That too! I bet you’re the type of person that wears a gopro on his helmet when he’s commuting too, aren’t you NuFred?

What has ‘left’ or ‘right’ got to do with this at all?

Then why are you banging on about BMW’s, Tarquin and Tabitha and keeping up with the neighbours?

Most of the 4wd owners I know have kids names more along the lines of Chardonnay & Tyson, and Japanese made cars – and to be honest, there are far more polluting vehicles out there than a modern 4WD, with just as big a footprint and gross weight as one

But I suppose that complaining about Transporter of Sharan owners wouldn’t have really fitted in with your petty bourgeoisie class warrior status would it Fred?

-re the housing thing theres a simple answer build more council houses but dont sell them off!

To be fair – given the (jerry built) standard of construction of any mass build properties done in the past 30 years, I think we’ve probably dodged a bullet in not having them on the taxpayers balance sheet.

just because it’s nice and big and comfy and your neighbour’s think you look oh so wealthy, and you’re being less socially responsible/more selfish.

So, you’re just jealous really then?

Typical lefty politics of envy glossed over as social responsibility 🙄

Muswell Hill is not so rugged that you ‘need’ a BMW X5…

Oh, we allocate cars on ‘need’ now do we?

Will this apply to other sectors of society as well in your utopia?

That should be good – we’ll have British Sovereign base area’s on one side of the Island, Russian naval port on the other, Turkey retaining the Northern half of the island, and Syria has just gone Chemical

What could possibly go wrong ? 😯

Does the mush pea tax extend to all pea related products? Only I’ve got some ham in and fancied some pease pudding with it (Northern version of Guacamole for all you southerners)

THM – if you see it in another light (and when it comes to Russia, you always should!) then the current Russian navy warm water port is in Syria…

    It’s all a ploy isn’t it?

Hmm, not too sure – I would suspect BMW, Merc and Audi sales in Russia might dip somewhat in the near future 😆 (they shifted about 35k units each into russia last year, and sales were growing at about 30%)

(edit – ok, just looked it up and it turns out they shifted about ten times that in the USA last year , so maybe a good move after all) 😀

proper capitalist system would see you lose 100% when the bank goes bust.

You’d be bloody careful about where you invested the money then, wouldn’t you… so when you had a choice between Icelandic Landsbanki at 6% and a building society at 3% you might think ‘hmmm!’

    Thats not a Preston

its a PRST4 unless I’m mistaken – different rear swing arm – the PRST1 came out and under the BB.

Haters always going to hate – but they rode amazingly well if your riding style suited the front end – they were wallowy and divey in tight/steep single track, but if you were riding moorland/polaris type stuff, then they kicked everything else in the nads.

Junky – universal credit taper rate will be 65p in the £

So, if you’re ‘marginal’ then for every pound you earn, you’ll lose 65p in benefits (and thats a lot better than it was before universal credit)

therefore on minimum wage, you’re working for an extra £2 per hour.

and thats not allowing for free school dinners, prescriptions, carers allowance, free transport to schools etc.

I’ll respond to your points when you’ve answered my earlier simple question on whether you would support workfare on that basis…

Smaller companies can be a lot more personal – thats a good thing in some ways, but HR issues become messy – when you’re asking for something like flexible working in a big company, then its got very laid out formal structures for dealing with it, and IME is dealt with in a less judgemental manner – thats the rules, everyone lives by them, not a problem if you utilise them, no big deal – in a smaller company, asking for flex working or something similar becomes a big deal, and can often carry repercussions…

Why would an NHS Trust (right this time?) use money from their budget to keep on 5 cleaners as supervisors to workfare claimants when they will already have a supervisor for the 5 cleaners?

Because they do what the people who provide their budget tell them to, so if the government made that the rule, would you support it, or not?

    rattrap
    Free Member

Only about 40% of hospitals use contract cleaners, so thats your first ‘jumped to conclusion’ shot down.

So, back to the point – if that was the case (no loss of existing, but they were used to train and oversee, so you end up with more) would you have a problem with people working for their benefits or not?

    rattrap
    Free Member

Workfare provides free labour for massive companies, funded by the tax payer. If there wasn’t workfare they would still need people to do these jobs

So, you would presumably have no ethical objection to ‘workfare’ if the jobs were done entirely for the benefit of the wider community – such as basic cleaning in hospitals, litter picking in public parks, conservation work (the people currently doing this can supervise/oversee so its zero sum gain on the jobs/expenses side of things, but they now have a much greater workforce)

How likely is it that someone just happened to be filming when that occurred

Very common in some other countries where there’s a lot of drunk nutters driving around

Given the level of insurance fraud etc. and difficulty proving liability I can only see it becoming more common here too, probably tied to a significant discount in insurance premiums – probably even better than the much vaunted black boxes.

In what way is Halal and Kosher slaughter ‘incompatible’ with the UK?

In the same way that forced marriages, female circumcision and stoning people for adultery are!
