Sheff is tops. I lived in West Yorks for 17 years and sheff for 12 and sheff beats bradford and leeds hands down. leeds is too big, mega city and hence crap. bradford is just pants. sheff is fab, its a city but feels like a small town. west and south sheff are the best, west gets you out to rivelin valley and the peaks also easy to go north from there up to greno/wharncliffe woods. walkley and hillsborough seem decent places to live. south has hunters bar, nether edge, nethergreen – all fab to live. bike route straight from hunters bar roundabout will take you straight out into the peaks.

    Veggie stuff

Blue Moon Restaurant, 2 St. James Street, Sheffield – great place to eat. The cakes are amazing!!!!! Chocolate cake is the best closely followed by banana and chocolate. The main meals are good though they dont change the menu much. Decent place to find out stuff going on in sheff.

Bohemian Café, The 53 Chesterfield Road Sheffield – they do veg and vegan aswell as meaty things stuff but not been in here – close to lembas and In A nutshell shop.

Two south Indian restaurants in Sheffo. Both are great and definately worth a visit – dosas, iddlys, vadas, great coconut curries. Top stuff at both of them!!! Great veggie selections. The starters are amazing at both places. Manchurian starter at dhanisthas is to die for.
Dhanistha’s, Sheffield. South Indian and Sri Lankan restaurant. 74 Abbeydale Road, Sheffield,
East & West Restaurant, Sheffield. South Indian and Sri Lankan restaurant. 227 Abbeydale Road, Sheffield,

Nirmal’s Restaurant, 189-193 Glossop Road, Sheffield – great veggie selection though a bit pricey but it is in the city centre. Mrs Nirmal turns up at the Vegan/veggie food annual give away that takes place in sheff in december – usually at the quaker hall v. close to blue moon. She usually does a few food classes and brings some great free food along.

There are a few more other good curry places for veggies, there’s one on chesterfied rd near to bohemian, lembas but i cant remember its name. another decent one at 282 Sharrow Vale Road
Hunters Bar – Moghul Rooms. Not the greatest but fair.

Pho68 175 London Road, Sheffield – Viet restaurant with great veggie section – better than all the others on London road. And no sneaky fish sauce in the veggie food.
Noodle Inn 156 London Rd, Sheffield – does great big bowls of soup. Awesome meal – the bowl is as big as your head and only cost a fiver. Get it with udon noodles. yum!!

Two steps Fish and Chippy 249 Sharrow Vale Road, Sheffield, – great chippy that has a seperate oil vat for chips so your chips aint contaminated by the fish. You cant take anything to them (tofu, veggie sozzies etc) and they will batter and fry them for you!!! Great place.

Health food shops – All these are great especially Beanies, DTE and New Roots.

Beanies 05-207 Crookes Valley Road, Sheffield, Between uni and walkley
Down To Earth Shrarrowvale Road Hunters Bar
New Roots Glossop Road near sheff uni
    Your Nuts Fulwood Road Broomhill
    Zeds Netheredge Road Netheredge

One great reason to live in sheff is for Lembas. Check em out on the web they are a wholefood veggie vegan wholesalers and you can go in and open up an account with them. Easy to spend alot of money there!! http://www.lembas.co.uk

These websites lists some alternative things going on – there’s lotsa films and gigs on where people do veggie vegan food at and some of these people work at blue moon so the food is tops … usually pizza!!

I’ve checked out a couple of vids for biking looks pretty cool though condensed in a small area.

If the ENglish were repatriated back to Denmark holland and Germany couldnt we revert back to being called Britain and have a united britannia and seek closer alliance with Brittany ?

Yeah the Japanese place is nice!!! But if you do want to go upmarket then saf in the wholefoods supermarket is tops! A little on the expensive side but totally worth it. Get the vegan cupcakes in the wholefood supermarket which is amazing in itself.

Ha! Anthrax! Only like the first LP. Shook Scott Not Ian’s hand once and it smelt of fanny. Urrgh!! He had just got off the tour bus! Washed it pretty quickly!

What’s that friggin music in the background? It sounds quite bad!! I feel like you should be playing some Slayer whilst filming this frame. Or on colour related theme, perhaps a bit of black metal?

Soz but I totally disgree with that last comment. When you get a motocross bikes blitzing past you at 30/40 miles an hour kicking rocks and dirt back at you as they pass by on the Roman Road/Ringinglow section as its been smoothed to normal road standards then I reckon I can moan as much as I want.

Most of these bridle ways are being flattened for motorcross and 4 wheel drive vehicles not for multiuse ‘people and dogs’.

Blower – I havent done the cut gate loop yet though I have done the Howden edge descent quite a few times and its one of my faves. Do you mean all the flagging just before Howden edge? Didnt see it before the flagging. Looks boggy there?

Looking at that Monkeyspoon website the pre and apres photos of chapel gate look minging.

They are still logging on that side of Ladybower, atleast they were the other week so didnt bother with that trail.

Wharncliffe/Greno woods is now owned by Sheff Wildlife Trust? I was thinking what with the steel city dh and all that money raising that the SWT would be encouraging biking in the woods???

No I’m happy to ride existing trails and not widen them but I’m more than happy to go searching for off piste. I’m just wondering if they are they going to flatten the whole of the Peaks trails into nice safe wide routes or as the result of industrial tree cutting – there’s just starting to be so many

    – the roman road from ringinglow is a total disgrace what they have done there,

the trail from bingham park out to the peaks used to be a classic trail which has totally be flattened – its ok if you didnt know what it was like before but damn it was way better,

lady cannings plantation trails flattened by tree cutting,

the dh from win hill to ladybower that cuts along the hill in the direction of the dam wall/bamford was nice singletrack until the tree cutting began,

the dh to the first car park on the way to fairholmes (cant remember the name).

Perhaps its cos I live in south sheffield and these are my local trails – especially Blacka Moor and I’m beginning to hear that sheffwildtrust are going to do trail widening there which are some of my fave trails!!

Now that wharncliffe in north sheffield has been ‘saved’ are we going to be told to go and ride there if you want the rough and tuff stuff???

ferk I’ve gone off on one… oh well.

Never done it so I reckon I’ll have at go on it and the singletrack next to it aswell. Never really thought about doing Parkin Clough before as I thought that would be way off bounds but after seeing that vid I’m game for a blast down there sometime. Only time I’ve been up and down that trail was on foot during the rain and it was a gloopy nightmare.

As for rider responsibility – to a degree I can agree with some trails being taboo but all the trail levelling the Peak Park, Sheffield City Council and Sheff Wildlife Trust have been doing recently and are planning to do in the Peaks makes me just wanna ride anywhere!

Thanks for that info guys. Thought that was Loose Hill in the background. I’m looking forward to riding this trail next week. Those singletrack runoffs from the main track look super fun aswell !!

Love Wharncliffe, need to go there soon I think! Tomorrow, I’m off out up on the hills above Ladybower. Gonna hit the Hagg Farm track a couple of times. Gonna be out on either a santa cruz chameleon or a santa cruz blur.

It’s got a fox float rp3. I’m pretty much sure it hasn’t got any V brake mounts. I’ve been told that the blur classic frame was made between 2002 – 2005.

Socialism = child benefit? I thought that would be more in the realms of social democracy.

Don’t most of us pay taxes in this society? Surely you put £££ into society and it gets distributed fairly? Or does it?

If you need to blame someone then perhaps more blame should be heaped on the tax evaders – from huge corporations to those little business people that ‘cook the books’.

Or perhaps how and where government spends its money should be looked at in finer details by voters and non-voters alike. If transparency is the banner they are waving then perhaps government allocated spending should be audited and judged accordingly. If we truly live in a free market society then state funding of everything should be looked at as we wouldn’t want to stop fair competition and free enterprise would we?

To be honest there was much of a slope down to that spot. Took enough effort just to get in the air without much speed. Other places were better but I mainly board on my own this was one of the rare chances when I had someone with me that had a camera.

I got that GNU from smackexchange a few years ago. I have a rome cheapstick now but still bring out the gnu! I dont see many around at all !!!

I went to Aviemore last March and had a blast. I’ve been to Chamonix, Sass Fee, Andorra, Arinsal, Les Arc – and I thought Aviemore was damn good fun and if we get the snow we did last year then I’m looking forward to going. Sure not up there with those places but still damn good fun. The boardercross track at the top was top fun! Hope its gonna be there this year!

To be honest I had a blast down here in the Peak district this year. So much snow!! Sure alot of **** walking back up hills but you cant complain much when its on your doorstep!

Pook – bike or board? Havent really investigated it on a bike but have been in the Limb on a board. At the moment on a bike I’m enjoying Lady Cannings and the track above LC wood that goes from Ringinglow Road all the way down to sheepscar Lane crossing over the Roman Road on the way down. Stays rideable in all weathers except when the wind is against you which leaves you pedalling like a looney to get any movement.

Also riding the top track on Porter Clough Valley, here’s my mate coming out at the end of it. Very slippy and greasy with all the leaves at the mo though, its a nice tight track with a steep drop on the right hand side.

Earl Brutus! I hope this picture answers your question! 🙂

well I guess the best bet would be andorra for a cheapo. Did a week there and prices were pretty decent though this was pre sterling implosion.

You can do a dorm or bunkhouse in aviemore for 15 to 20 quid a night. Thats your train fare already. You'll save lots by hitting the local supermarket bins and get what they throw out.

Fair point though the more's lift passes aint as cheap as I was expecting.

Nice boarder cross track at the top though.

If I dont go to saas fee this year I'm holding out for another big dump over the peak district!!!

I've only watched the first episode. But Frankie Wainman Jnr's wife is my cousin. She actually raced herself a few times and was pretty damn good.. And her brothers (Dorrell's)both race aswell but I think her two brothers are over in New Zealand racing. I used to go to watch a few races now and again mainly in the 90s though.

I usually use skate shoes. Have used merrels before but they tend to get stuck in the pedals at times due to the chunky undulating soles. Prefer etnies, vans(Rowleys) and emericas.

Kasper – that barge resole package looks amazing. Reckon I'm gonna get an order in for that. Reminds me of shoe goo from my skating days.
