Difficult one this, I’d certainly argue that with a state education system that is supposed to set strong levels of attainment that contextual data being used for entry to university would be pointless?

With the angry but excellent teaching crew on here I’m amazed it’s an issue…

Seriously though grades, aptitude tests and personal statement should really be the only means for judging entry, interviews for some programmes (Medicine, Nursing etc…)

A strong candidate will shine through regardless of background, the real problem is teaching young people from a less advantaged background how to game the system and make their application look as good, it’s not difficult, but it takes time, from parents, teachers and universities to do this.

Eh I just use the pocket of my jeans for all this stuff and do about 10 miles each way, means I can hop straight off of the bike and into the pub on the way home.

Tom White Industries Eno would be my thoughts for that…

I seem to also have a spare brand new Paul’s Melvin just kicking round the flat some Middleburn cranks a pile of wheels and bars and stems so it’s well almost a new bike…

All my groceries by bike or on foot, Turkish grocery store round the corner for exciting fuit vegetables and olives and way cheaper than Tesco, everything else I carry in a courier bag, picking up bits at lunch time or on the way home.

It happens that the usual Tesco’s I use is opposite one of the best beer pubs and micro breweries in London so it’s never a chore.

I think the key is just making it a habit and part of life and totally usual.

I’ve found I’m actually going out for fewer rides than I did but nearly all of my chores include a bicycle.

    I love it!

Warm up for the TT Worlds at the Vuelta for Wiggins and then retirement, why would Sky continue with a GC rider who is getting long in the tooth compared to Froome, and the Colombiand as well as Porte.

My heart goes out for JTL who was either having a spectacularly good year in 2012 but seems to have gone all quiet now?

Not entirely sure the Sky pursuit of power and figures works out quite so well on the road as well as it does on the track, well unlesss…

Should be a good Tour I rather suspect the warm up races being very quiet as riders try not to show their hand.

When any of you are as fast as Marianne Vos you might be in a position to comment about their inappropriate use in cross…

    Just a thought like!

3K that’s just about IF or Cielo territory or at a push a Signal Cycles Saltzman ;0)

Perhaps even hang on and see how much the Genesis stainless will be.

Depends what you want it for really, for club rides and Audax nice steel is just lovely and it won’t date!

The slowest parts of my commute are all cycle lanes which just seems crazy really, if they’re going to exist they should at least be as fast as the road?

Having to choose speed or safety seems a pretty rum deal really, surely the whole point is that cycles can just travel anywhere safely rather constrained in little strips at 8mph.

That Bloomsbury cycle route is an abomination whoever designed it campaigned for it or implemented needs a stern talking to.

It’s just painfully slow, in fact the slowest part of my commute.

I’d rather not be segregated from traffic I’d like to be able to just ride on the road with respect from other road users.

Love mine 9miles each way it’s dead comfortable…

You can squeeze Schwalbe Kojak’s under guards as well which are super cush and really quite nippy.

Wheels are heavy but Kojak’s have helped with that and a heavy commute/winter bike means that the road bike feels like a proper summer sunday treat.

Surely the cost depend on the length of the run off, I’ve worked with run off’s that have taken three hours on five barrel kit so I could imagine a long run off taking at least 40 minutes at home with cold water just pouring away all that time…

Time and space ar the other problem in a one bedroom flat…

Now it’s warmed up I can maybe have a brew outside!

Worked in a small micro brewery with a heat exchanger so have speent an age trying to work out how to replicate that at home without the water meter going mental, it’s fine if you’re collecting the warmed water in a HLT but at home that’s not going to happen…

Been tempted by home brewing but always been stumped about how you’d manage to actually get a proper cold break?

    Any suggestions?

I’d love to know how this summative assessment compared to any formative assessment and the feedback processes involved.

    Raouligan

Personal Tutor and then you should have a specific assessment and appeals procedure.

Any decent institution should have any form of summative assessed examination verified by an examining board and possibly an external examiner prior to it having been used. This makes room for appeal very difficult as essentially the examination has been peer reviewed and agreed.

Of course I can’t comment on all institutions…

I’m always genuinely surprised that people don’t seem to get moderation here?

Somebody is paying for webspace and a forum as a commercial enterprise, if they see it being jeopardised people get removed, like a nightclub in the real world.

It’s not rocket science really is it?

Love my Rapha kit, but I’m in the market for a rain jacket too and the Gabba has massively shot up my thinking about it list now… ;0)

Not kicking Rapha did you see MSR a large number of non sponsored teams were wearing Castelli Gabba’s and paying for them including Sky just saying if pro’s are ditching team kit for something that’s better it might be worth looking at?

    Raouligan

If Sky are buying and wearing Castelli Gabba’s it rather suggests that buying a Rapha rain jacket may not be the best investment…

I’d have a Vaya but the rear disk brake although practical makes me just taste a bit of sick in my mouth, **** hell that’s a shallow reason to hate a bike, but that’s life ;0)

I genuinely don’t see why it needs to be light to be fair it’s the bike that’s made me left my weenyism behind, and that’s coming from a man with a custom 17lb steel road bike ;0)

It’s either that or I just bought it as middle age kicked in…

Heavy to pick up but ride ace, quite happy to head out on a club run in winter on mine with full guards on and heavy tyres.

It’s not a race bike, but what it is ace for is longish rides on light trails, the road or anything in between, riding to work rain or shine, lugging around 20 kg’s of groceries in a courier bag without the back end feeling noodly or the braking being er special.

It’s all I’ve ridden since I got mine, and granted it’s winter and I wouldn’t ride anything nice, but I’m considering a second that I could respray and pimp up.

It’s just a bike that gets stowed in the kitchen that I pick up and ride to work, the pub, fifty miles to the cafe without batting an eyelid, great!

So good it’s relegated a fully custom Mercian cross bike to just neglected.

Have a look at Tokyo fixed gear there’s some repro ones that Ison bring in that seem to be reasonably priced, with loads of other more expensive options, and White Industries at the top end which are beautiful, but mental money…

Chances of a red diamond frame and truss fork?

If I could get a Knard in Monkey fork then that could be tempting way less outlay…

The only problem with the unicrown and diamond is I can see myself kicking myself very quickly for not getting a spaceframe with truss…
