Grip Grab gaiters over the cuff of Northwave winter boots is the best combination I’ve tried. Even they will let water in during prolonged wet conditions.

Now I save pretty wooden chopping boards for bread.

Same here. I have two plastic boards which get tossed in the dishwasher.

Ok .. Ignore my last post then – Nepal trekking peaks maybe, 5-6000m?

If we’re talking Annapurna then I think the challenge is mostly the altitude. The terrain wasn’t particularly hard but lordy it was difficult to breathe up there.

Oh, and in my case, the blizzard made it more challenging than I would’ve liked ..

For the love of god not the A82! makes me shudder to think of riding up Lomondside or over Rannoch moor at any time of day or year…

It wasn’t terrible when I did it, but that was a long time ago, and I’ve no desire to do it again.

ETA. I saw all the RAB people preparing to leave when I was at LE riding the West Kernow Way. It did look like a lot of faff compared with a self organised credit card tour.

Leftfield suggestion. In my view, the Med to La Manche is a much nicer ride than Lejog. Better weather, quieter roads, better food.

    A long time ago, but:

Cornwall and Devon were the toughest parts of the whole ride, but were lovely.

I followed the old CTC hostels route in parts which mostly worked well.

I didn’t have a Garmin at the time, consequently there was more main road and getting lost than I would’ve liked.

The A82 can be unpleasantly busy. Pick your time carefully or consider the A9 cycle path instead.

Credit card touring ftw. I like a few comforts at the end of a long day’s ride. Plus you don’t have to carry much luggage.

Think about how you will get back from JOG.

The super-rich left Norway in 2022 and it resulted in a 40% reduction in revenue from that sector, rather than the $150mn pa extra that it was projected to earn

I’m not sure you can fairly compare the two countries. Norway, unlike the UK, already had a wealth tax and increased it modestly. It’s a high tax economy without a global financial centre. The idea that the super rich would uproot themselves and their families from London is lacking evidence.

It’s a fair point: beware of those carrots!

Maybe step away from the internet for a moment and have a look in the kitchen at what it says about storage on a box of eggs :-)

I’ve just checked and it says nothing about them being washed which if you look back was the error I corrected. I have no objection to people storing them in the fridge if they so wish, though in my experience you need to adjust cooking times.

Whatever, dude. If you think that a website telling people to put eggs in the fridge is giving bad advice, you shouldn’t be giving people advice about food hygiene.

I don’t think we need pay any attention to someone who thought that UK eggs are washed.

This site is on the internet, so people access it from all over the world.

Sigh. Let’s look at what you said:

Store bought eggs should be kept in a refrigerator. They are washed,

This was an unequivocal statement which is untrue in the UK. You could just admit your error rather than doubling down.

That website is U.S. based. If you buy eggs in a supermarket in the U.S., store them in a refrigerator.

Which is not relevant to the vast majority here. In the UK, eggs do not need to be stored in a refrigerator, contrary to your previous post.

No they’re not. In the UK, anyway.

her words do have more meaning now when discussing this type of thing, you have to separate your work and personal beliefs in this type of role, as you’re governing the entire country, not just your supporters.

Indeed. And given that her work is for a Labour government, it was great to see her standing up for workers.

If folk tell you that they weren’t aware of this phrase and its connotations then you could do worse than simply believe them.

I wasn’t aware of it, but it’s not exactly difficult to work out.

Last year, on the Bryan Chapman audax. My chain jammed and twisted so that it would then jump with every revolution. I managed to buy a new chain in the next town and fit it on the pavement. I was a long way from the nearest train station. Other than that I can only think of two or three times other than the notoriously fragile Shimano chains of the early ’90s. Like everyone else I switched to Sedis.

Speaking of audax, after a busy 15 months or so and a successful PBP, I started to feel pretty jaded: after a knackering 400 back in March, and faced with needing to do another 200 to keep my RRtY going in April, I decided to stop riding for a bit and then do some fun stuff. So I did the Devon C2C with my daughter, and the West Kernow Way with a good mate. I’ve rediscovered my enjoyment and will be starting audaxes again in a couple of weeks. LEL next year!

The stood at the last election to unseat Labour MPs. And their campaigns were very anti-Labour.

Other MPs ran against Labour who subsequently supported the VAT levy on school fees.

That sounds a lot like the world of audax.

It is for me, but note that the pointy end of an audax is very competitive. I imagine it would be easy to get sucked into that world.

So they’re not left wing? I think you might be right. What is their “alliance” grouping in the UK parliament about then?

Please don’t attribute an opinion to me that I haven’t expressed and do not hold. Like I said, I don’t know much about them, and note only that characterizing their votes as anti-Labour is speculation on your part.

Because these independents claim to be left wing, and for the working class, but are voting to keep a tax break for those who choose to pay to send their kids to private schools…

I don’t know much about them other than their pro-Palestinian views.

No, the former Labour politicans all voted with the government. Well, those that were there. One notable absence (who is in an alliance with those four who voted with the right wing opposition).

I’m sure you’re trying to make a point so why not just come out and say it? From my perspective, I’m not sure why one would expect independent MPs to be aligned with the government’s view.

Ayoub Khan, Adnan Hussain and Shockat Adam all stood against incumbent Labour MPs and beat them. Iqbal Mohamed’s seat was new, but the area was solidly Labour before they stood.

Thanks. I don’t think any of them are former Labour politicians.

Talking of shifting to the right… the little group of anti-Labour “left wing” MPs in parliament just voted against VAT on school fees with the right wing opposition.

Which of them is anti Labour?
