Done it a few times on a big DH bike but the last time was on a 160/140 trail bike with big tires and thick tubes, I would use this combination again. Some of the pros ride pretty light kit IMO, but they’re pros, not some fat old duffer like us lot 🙂

The built up trails are running OK, there is some mud and standing water but they tend to drain well. Some of the DH is greasier than a chip shop though.

Sometimes I miss the buzz of the place and I love visiting, but I love being a provincial moron with the clean air and not waking up murdered in my bed every day, more.

Soften the forks and stick a set of ESI grips on, helped me loads this year. (Although the ESI grips were knackered after two weeks)

To enable upskirt mode you need to root it

You have to strap the chest mount pretty tight like a bra to stop the camera shaking. Also helps if you have moobs, if not I know people who use a cut up computer wrist wrest gel thing as padding.

GoPro in upside down mode, mounted upside down on the chest mount. Video setting 4 (960 x something HD) – make sure you use a class 10 card.

Not my video but the result is like this: ( but slower 🙂 )

Why do you give a s**t? As a contractor you don’t need get involved in politics, just take the money with a nod and a smile.

Yes makes a noticeable difference in my (petrol)S65 – the Tescos superfuel works well too.

Oakley O-frames always do the job for me. Well I say that, since I tried riding with decent glasses instead of goggles, I don’t think I’ll be going back. Does anyone else struggle with goggles and their perceived field of vision? I feel claustrophobic when wearing goggles now.

It doesn’t affect the (relative) results because everyone’s wearing the same thing. Like it or not the image of the sport is what helps it to make money and DH and BMX take their styling cues from motocross rather than the velodrome.

^^ This, exactly. Rightly or wrongly, this gets people interested in the sport and sells advertising because it is considered cool:

    This, not so much:

@rocketman this is just the start. The next step will be that you are asked to document all of your processes in great detail, breaking down each step. The step after that, your job will be outsourced to the lowest bidder and they will use your notes to accomplish what you do now but for a fraction of the cost.

The secret is to document 95% of it, leaving out small *but crucial* bits of information 🙂

Shame as I was going to build up my next bike with BOS. I tried ordering a set of Devilles last year but BOS messed Roger around for months and I ended up buying some different forks 🙁

Edit damnit why don’t cane creek make forks, I would buy a double barrel fork in an instant

Do it, get out now. The fact you are even asking this question makes the answer obvious.

    DO IT NOW

You’d be taxed on that 5.1k though right, so you swap that for the car and pay the tax on that instead. You should end up better off if you want to run a new car.

Company cars are great IMO; taxed at source so you never really have the money to miss, road tax, tyres, servicing, insurance, fuel are all paid for and you get a new car every three or four years. What’s not to love?

@IanPinder Take advantage of the Euro crisis and order one in Germany? LHD on UK roads is a bit of a pain though…

Was that the old 5 series or the recent one? Anyway having spent time in all three I’d take an M550D touring in dark green 🙂

My Pitch has a “lifetime” warranty on the main frame and 5 years on the rear triangle.

Length of warranty != indicator of quality. A boggo Kia comes with a 7 year warranty.

(Warranties are backed by insurance policies. Manufacturers of cheap mass market equipment can often provide very good warranties because they can make the maths work)

Great cars, only suffer from the fact that they aren’t quite as good as a 5 series. A lot of people buy them because they aren’t a 5 series though, so horses for courses.

What I was trying to say was that it costs 8k more to build an all singing all dancing carbon braked 911 than it does to build a poverty spec Boxter

    This is incorrect.

If riding hardtails makes you a better rider, do the World Cup DH teams all train on hardtails, then use those skills to float over everything on a skills compensator come race day?

Would removing the suspension from the back of your car make you a better driver? More likely it would just make the experience uncomfortable and slow.

I’ve had every permutation of mtb imaginable and I’ve finally “settled” (yeah right ) on my current set up:

    DH bike for DH
Long travel HT for everything else

Works a treat, I do occasionally miss some bounce on the rear for long days in the saddle, but for most of my non DH riding, the HT is more than adequate. If I want to go fast downhill, I take out the big bike and go on an uplift day, none of this “it’s a trail bike which can be a little hard going on the ups, but more than makes up for it on the downs” crap anymore

See I went the other way; from an XC bike and a DH bike to one do-everything six inch bike. I don’t really miss either of the old bikes.
