@OP one thing I would say is that in my experience having your head turned by someone new is always more appealing – the first flushes of love, the physicality, the freshness of a new relationship means the new person can do no wrong in your eyes. You don’t have to deal with the drudgery of life like putting the bins out or cleaning the bathroom, or discussing what’s for tea, sorting out the life insurance etc with this new person, and if they feel the same way about you then it’s a massive ego massage too. Thing is, the new person soon becomes a fixture in your life and the same mediocrity will return 🙂

I guess I’m saying don’t take what you have got for granted, but ultimately if you’re miserable and can’t see a way forward, maybe calling it a day is the only option?

Update, just weighed and I’m 12st 4lbs, the lightest I have been for a very very long time. Also doing a light set of weights every other day and I can see the tone appearing. My mojo is back, lock up your daughters 🙂

Slightly off topic but I’ve bought a CNOC14 for my nephew for Christmas ; it seems very well put together – do people still recommend disconnecting the front brake for a while or is that frowned upon now? I don’t want to be held responsible for any OTB incidents that could be avoided 🙂

Stuck a set of these exact ones on recently, they’re very decent and have survived a couple of uplift days as I’m too lazy to swap them over for my usual baron DH tires. Roll well enough for general trail riding too.

Get a nice pair of Red Wings? Or something by Grenson, I just picked up a nice pair of Fred Vs and they look fabulous with a pair of smart jeans darling, and are as comfortable as a pair of trainers. If you’re proper posh have a look at Trickers or Aldens.

I would say it depends on the size of your platform and what features you need – for us we wanted an anycast+ setup as our main feature after losing connectivity due to ddos against zoneedit – went for http://www.dnsmadeeasy.com/ and they have been faultless so far.

Edit – these guys are USA based with nodes all over the world (which any decent provider should have) – is there a specific requirement to use a UK-based company?

One thing I would say about BT for sizeable installations is that they will have done it before, probably at an even larger scale than your sites. For all their faults they are pretty much the go to people for any big installation for the “big boys” (at least when I was working in the city up until last year)

I started something like this about 2 months ago; 3 days a week I only eat an evening meal, usually a chicken salad, and don’t drink alcohol, the rest of the time I’m my usual gluttonous self (although my appetite has definitely diminished).

Total weight loss so far = just under 2 stone. It’s the easiest form of dieting I’ve ever done and it works. Unlike previous low carb / high protein diets I’ve tried I haven’t once felt ill and once I got used to being hungry it wasn’t a big deal.

Edit: Going out and buying a load of new clothes yesterday made me feel great – for the first time in 20 years I am in size 34″ jeans!

I would also ask about the infrastructure on which the website guys plan on hosting the site; do you need load balancers, redundant hosts, PCI compliance? How does it plug into payment gateways? What are the hardware SLAs? Is your bandwidth burstable? How much does it cost? Who handles your DNS? Is it multicast? Who pays if you get slashdotted? if they can’t answer these questions I would walk away.

Worth getting checked out, I thought I was having a heart attack but it turned out to be torn intercostal muscles, absolute agony! even seven months later I have the occasional twinge if I stretch in the right way.

Yeah use google, it is a “search engine” 🙄

Chip and PIN isn’t safe, it was compromised a long time ago. Anyone with a few hundred quid and the opportunity can buy the equipment to clone cards (including obtaining the PIN)

My advice would be only to ever use your debit card in your own bank’s machines, inside the bank, or better yet withdraw money via the cashier desk, and use your credit card for any non-cash purchases.

I bought a pair of the venturi 3/4 waterproofs a few years back – they did everything brilliantly except keep me dry and comfortable, and the cut meant they kept getting stuck on my kneepads. Total crap. I now tell my arse to MTFU and just wear normal shorts.

Up until recently I had a Mercedes S65, a range rover sport tdv8, a BMW 335d and a VW fox. I’ve had a bit of a meltdown I guess and have chopped in my rich ahole lifestyle for a much more simple lifestyle in the middle of nowhere (well, Wales.

Currently borrowing a neighbour’s vauxhall signum ( worth “about 800 notes with a full tank of diesel butt” ), and you know what, I think it’s so uncool it goes full circle and is probably the coolest car I have driven for years. Have my eye on a Subaru outback spec B or a forester. .

    Feels good man.

Thing is, large-engined petrol cars are unpopular so you would not get a decent trade-in price. Jeez there are some bargains about though, my neighbour picked up a 2006 Spec B Legacy estate for under £5k a few weeks ago, it goes like stink!

Better to go overprepared than under; soften up your suspension, get some thicker tires maybe, get your brakes sorted, take some armor if you have it. Full face helmet definitely worth it.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking a day’s DH riding is just like riding the downhill sections of your local XC trail; it can take a while to get used to the physical exertion especially the arm pain.

Be prepared to have a lot of fun!

Bear in mind if your profits are over a certain threshold (and therefore the amount of tax you owe) you will need to not only pay your tax but also a “payment on account” – 50% in January and 50% in July, against *possible future* profits.

You might owe 10,000 after your first return but actually have to pay by January 31st 10,000 + 5,000 on account then another 5,000 on account in the July.

    This caught me out.

Since when did that become a fundamental human right? I share a house with my GF who earns similar and our quality of life is great thanks.

Yes that’s two incomes and you can share rent, bills etc?

For one person 20K per year is more than enough and you can save some.

I would say it depends on your circumstances – if you want to live independently with a reasonable quality of life you would struggle on 20k. After deductions and including a 10% pension contribution you would be left with a take home wage of about £1200 per month.

Say (conservatively) £500 in rent, £100 in council tax, £200 food, £100 utilities including mobile/landline/broadband, travel costs, there wouldn’t be much left for saving or anything else.

Of course you could live in shared accommodation and survive on porridge if you wanted to

You shouldn’t put too much trust that globalrichlist site as it doesn’t take into account living costs. If you earn £25K a year “you are the 1%” – most people on this forum wouldn’t be able to survive on 25 grand a year in the UK (including me)

Rough figures suggest the top 1% of earners pay about a quarter of all income tax in the UK.

I don’t expect this thread to stay open long OP, STW can’t discuss matters of tax in a measured and gentlemanly manner 🙂
