You don’t have to live “in” Bangor, loads of amazing places nearby too. Just remember if you want to go out (bigger gigs, city shopping, airports etc) Manchester (nearly two hours) and Liverpool (say an hour and a half) are your nearest options.

Go to a decent camera shop (or even Jessops) and try the options from Nikon and Canon (other manufacturers are available, but these are the big two). See how each feels in his hands, as he may prefer the controls and body style of one make over another. Don’t rule out a decent 2nd hand body if you’d rather spend a bit less.

The Monday night rides (led by Dave Dodd) are an excellent way to find your way round Delamere with good company. I haven’t been for years, but they used to meet at the railway station at 6:30, rides last about two hours and end with a cake stop. Hmm, cakes….

Whether the postie has to come to my house to deliver a postcard or a jiffybag is irrelevant. They are coming in the same vehicle, why is it a different cost to them ?

I dislike the fact one has to walk to the Post Office with every single item in case it’s a little too thick or heavy for a normal stamp. If I buy a stamp for 50p and stick it on a postcard the Post Office will take it to it’s destination with no issues. If I also want to send a cd in a jiffy bag to the same address at the same time I have to pay three times the price for the privilege. I understand that if I want to send a pair of wellies in a box I’ll have to pay more, but I fail to see why anything under letterbox size commands a premium. If anything, charge a flat rate of £1 for all parcels, letters and cards under letterbox size (reducing queues at Post Office counters) and go up from there for items which are obviously oversize.

I think the shifting and overall build quality of the Alfine is better. The Nexus is an earlier design I think. I have an 8 speed Alfine and it’s very good, but could do with longer gearing – maybe the 11 speed is better ?

Someone once described wendyball as 22 thugs and rapists chasing an inflated bladder round a field. Mr Barton would seem to fit right in.

I presume you mean why wouldn’t I want to work there ? – because I’m claustrophobic, and most of the factory is below ground (part of the planning permission was a requirement that the building could not be seen from the road). It was bad enough going down in the lift, never mind spending 40 or so hours a week down there….

It’s an interesting place. Wouldn’t want to work there though, especially underground.

Funnily enough I emailed trout about a month ago and got no reply – I assumed you’d given up with the lights (I need to get an L&M Arc light converted to LED as a helmet light). Troutie if you are still in business perhaps you would email me with some details ?

I used to live round there a few years ago – as others have said from Witney I’d either get the bus into Oxford or drive to Kidlington / Yarnton and ride in from there.

I’m finding some of the “joke” posts on here in pretty bad taste. If you can’t add anything of interest please keep the jokes for other topics.

Wages in the UK are going down all the time. You could always set up in business like Troutie, who must be busy as he didn’t reply to my email..

I bought one a couple of weeks ago – perfect for the sort of riding I do (North Wales, trail centres). One of the owners @ Llandegla reckons it’s his favourite go anywhere, ride anything bike. I tested a Ghost, Niner Jet 9, Yeti ASR-5 and the Nickel. I bought the Nickel.

Try one ? You can try mine if you live near Llandegla (and you’re tall)

Funnily enough you’re the second person to ask about the Nickel tonight

My first thought was a knackered engine or gearbox mount. What car is it ?

You’re not supposed to want to ride Llandegla, let alone wonder what tyres to use. It’s not “gnarly” enough to be enjoyable, you see ;-)

Gem are very good, a local garage comes out to you by the roadside and either fixes it or tows you. You pay their bill on the day, Gem send a claim form and you get a cheque in a couple of days. Easy and cheap.

I don’t think I’ve seen a bad word written about Canyon bikes – the main problem for most people seems to be the wait for delivery. Haven’t seen one in the flesh myself though. Isn’t there a money back if not satisfied guarantee with them ?
