I don’t like the idea of carrying bikes with hydraulic discs upside down, surely this introduces air into the brakes ? I’m looking for a bike friendly car at the moment (I want to be able to lock my bike in the vehicle the right way up). I plan to do something like Flatfish’s idea, possibly with some old sofa cushions used as spacers to keep the bikes apart.

I have an IWC Spitfire which I bought in Hong Kong for my 40th. I love it, not least because very few people who see it know what it is, unlike the Rolex / Breitling pieces available at similar money.

I looked at Salsa as that’s what I bought last time, saw the price and decided to seek advice on something a bit more economical :-)

Graham – you’ve got what’s known as a “Cod head” :-) So have I, but I find Giro’s are the best for me.

Yeah, Nuclear seems fine. At the end of the day we’ve already got loads of Nuclear power stations, either in service or being decommissioned, so we may as well go ahead and build new ones next to the old ones now – the workforce are already there, and the technology is only going to get better.

Choice of bike will come down to your preference of hardtail (front suspension only) or full suspension. A new, half decent (ie fit for purpose) hard tail is within your budget, but you’ll need to stretch a little further to buy a new full suspension bike that will do the job.
I’d suggest a second hand Boardman full suspension (FS), although the “Team” model is currently reduced to £800 brand new if you can stretch to this. Boardman is Halfords own brand, and represents excellent value for money.

The nearest North Wales trail centre to you is at Llandegla Forest[/url] close to Wrexham. If you come over drop me an email, there are a few of us that get out round here quite often, beginners always welcome.

You can’t do that though – you have to use the outbound part of the ticket before you use the return.

The nice thing about premium shotguns is that if you buy them sensibly (ie second hand at the right price) and look after them they will not lose any value. Hopefully !

I shoot clay competitions (DTL) most weekends. I have a Krieghoff K-80 pro trap, which is lovely if you like that sort of thing.

Personally I wouldn’t trust HR departments at all. They are there to make sure the company isn’t sued for anything and keep the wage bill down as far as possible, IME. If you do have meetings with them take a witness when possible.

Late 8V Gti should be good for 30 mpg or so. Getting on a bit now though, but I’d have another one if the circumstances were right. I must admit I’d prefer a 3 door 16V model though.

But usually a car is a much larger purchase, and has less “fun” attched than a bike. I have been lucky enough to own quite a few nice cars, but traffic, speed cameras, the cost of motoring and the availability of cheap, reliable, capable cars means it isn’t necessary to blow a fortune on your transport any more. Of course, if you have three kids / do a high mileage / earn a higher salary this may be different for you.

Bigger acts in bigger venues? How much do they get away with charging these days?
In fact, is the ‘experience’ really worth it?

It’s because no-one really makes any money out of selling records any more.

This, I think. It is getting too expensive, I agree – I don’t begrudge artists a reasonable income, but whilst mine is shrinking I’m being very choosy who I go to see. Bright Eyes tickets came up the other week, but by the time we’d driven to Manchester, had a beer and got into the gig it would have cost about £90 for the two of us – too much to be able to go regularly.

I saw it last Saturday – really enjoyed it, but it could have been longer for me. Thought all the actors were superb, it was well paced, nicely shot and the right balance of humour and tension. Not the best Coen Brothers film, but well worth the price of admission.
