Continental Mountain Kings
……just removed the above piles o $hite and replaced em with Bonti XR4s – 2.2 (which are bloody wide).
Did a 23 mile mud plug around calderdale yesterday and they were absolutely stunning!! on all terrain right through to shedding 8″ deep bog “slart”. I can now see how they were highly reccomended by many people on here. Even better considering All Terrain are doing them at £14 each!!
RagTiFree MemberEnd of topic, buy Krytons TRACER!, awesome, and probably the most sexual looking bikes on the planet. Oh and uber rare, unlike your list of run of the mill stuff.
Yeti, 5, SC etc…..ZZZzzzzzz
RagTiFree MemberThanks guys, dipping sounds the way forward, does it then need to be re-laquered ?
RagTiFree MemberI COMPLETELY! lost my mojo for cycling recently, fatherhood, work and the usual pressure of life were the main reasons…. but sat in my shed was a 4k Ellsworth, all the kit, bike racks and plenty of keen (ish) mates, basically everything that should have motivated me to go out.
My riding had somewhat levelled out to suit my mates abilities, i.e 20k ish rides around calderdale, and in all, pretty benine. I was sick of spending more time getting ready to go out, then cleaning the prissy! bike afterwards than I did in the saddle. I then remembered when I most enjoyed cycling….when I was young,on my 96 CinderCone, stoping at the Stubbing for a half of Trophy “Brewed in the North” Bitter on the way home.
So here I am…back to basics. The Ellsworth is now gone and in its place is my new throw away mucky! Genesis IO ID 11 speed Alfine bike, benine rides are now a bit more interesting on a steel 4″ bike and the steel flex takes me way back!
The mojo, is now somewhat back !
RagTiFree MemberPaul, A truly stunning bespoke bike. Looks kind of useable in many ways too. Well done.
RagTiFree MemberI think you should go as follows;
3×10 Full ! Deore Groupset / Brakes
Mavic 717 rims on Deore Hubs
Easton EA30 finishing kit:lol:
Regretably the build will have to be as cool as the frame!
RagTiFree MemberFrom someone who has owened 2 Ti frames (and nearly a Soda), I am now somewhat choked that my new Reynolds 520 Cro-moly tubed genesis rides somewhat better than them both. I seriously! cannot believe how comfy it is.
Weight issue / looks aside, I would never consider Ti again.RagTiFree MemberMy mate has a lovely 09 finishing on ebay tommorow night (carbon MC20).
They are top bikes.RagTiFree MemberYou definately were going some…..I hate helmet cams of some blinged up gimp troddling around but I actualy enjoyed yours, crash included!
Encore ?
RagTiFree MemberI bought one last week from ukbikesdepot.co.uk for £1170. Considering I sold my Epiphany to fund it, this was one hell of a risk!.
The bike has completely helped my re find my mojo as well as remind me about good old honest riding. The Alfine hub is mint (dispite looking like something from the 50s), changes are silent and slick as well as being somewhat novel to the traditional geared mechs.
Weight wise it is spot on, I would say circa 27.5lbs and the reynolds 520 tubing is one serious comfortable ride. Spec is OK, and the 2011 Deore brakes look great and well outperform their name. This is a bike you can throw away mucky and not worry about it.
Bars are cronic and too short and the seatpost is cheap. I upgraded to some 710 bars and added a polished alloy Ritchey Classic seatpost to match the stem, tyres may also welcome a change from the notorious mountain kings, all these you can get some cash for on fleabay.
Finally I am a 19″ man all the way, but had to opt for the 20.5″, definately need to get one sized up before purchase, and get the price drove down!
Hope this helps
All in all this is one quality steed
RagTiFree MemberThank Mboy.
Tree-magnet,Yes I had Mountain kings on my 5SE, they were as good as the reviews they get!
RagTiFree Member“Oh my god that is so High Brow”, spurted one of Moyles sad little gimpy f!wits on Radio 1 yesterday.
RagTiFree Memberheard an “older rider” (about 46ish)at AE ? talking about his mates crash, he said he came round that last berm and “washed out”
Stupid phrase, sounded even more stupid coming out of some old fuk clearly trying to be a bit Rad in front of his mates!. And yes he did have a 5 with colour matched rims.
RagTiFree MemberThis is more like it ! ! !

The more skulls smashed in the better for me !
RagTiFree MemberShowerman….Are your cables PINK!!! on that stunning Ibis, if so…remove!
RagTiFree MemberThanks Rob!, for the numpty confirmation, clearly my Comprehensive education has served me well.
Tolla….I await your apology
RagTiFree Member:roll:……
Your all just not getting it… please just change it to “show us your average looking black bikes”
RagTiFree MemberFor all those who cant read….. this thread says “stealthy”, all those with non stealthy bikes (you know who you are), and inparticular those who have uploaded photos of bikes with mudguards, crud catchers and bottle holders remove them with immediate effect.
RagTiFree MemberWas once doing the coast to coast with my mate when I was 16, we had just walked to Ingleby Cross and was making our way to Osmotherley YH at 10:00pm (33 mile section!!!!) via a path through some woods when We came accross an elderley bloke walking towards us with a blanket over his head but face showing (nativity styleeee!)…..carrying a huge **** off axe!.
He said “areet lads” as we tentetively past him keeping all eyes on the axe which I was adamant would soon be ploughed into my skull !
RagTiFree MemberSo, my circumstances, to set the scene.
Wife gets a new car every 2 years.
Children about to flee the nest.
For the past few years I have had a two seater (cheap) MX5. And I have enjoyed it. But now, maybe, is tim for a change.
I walk/bike to work most days, 3k, but once or twice a week, I have to travel 30k. So I’m considering a quad bike. Anyone have experience?
BB
ARE YOU ON GLUE ?…..
RagTiFree MemberI think it will be a shame if the brand dies out (even without my living in HB bias). The frames were definately going the way I like my bikes, i.e huge emphasis on steel, skinny tubes, great geometry etc..etc…, and in all delivering something slighty away from the norm at an affordable price.
I said earlier on in the year that with all these delays / QC issues could have a huge financial burden on the brand ?. I have seen nothing but “Out of stock – coming soon” on the prodcuts, rolling on month after month. All the investment, new products including several new bike designs, that have been in the offing for months has come to very little this year, with no 2011 bikes out until well into the summer, and many more still not available.
There is huge risk involved in dealing abroad (I know!). I doubt that there would be any posts like this, or designers “going west” fom great inovative companies if the factories had performed and there was a full range out in January as promised. I imagine we would have been seeing “out of stock” for a completely different reason.
Maybe they ran before they could walk ?
RagTiFree MemberI dont generaly get too strung out about QC issues that my affect “hobby”, however I feel Ragleys QC issues are not just recent….most of the range was hugely delayed from January, even some of the Troofs (which I wanted!!) are still not available, all down to QC. Posts back to March this year claimed that the delays were down to QC but they wanted things right before they took receipt….., clearly this has not been the case and promised have failed to deliver.
Everyone who I know who has / had a 2010 Ragley (with the exception of my Ti) has had niggles. Two with oversized seatposts (eradicated by the highly inovative 27-3!mm spike seatpost), and a Blue Pig with a pretty “stuck in” headset. With all the delays and posted comments above, has pretty much declared me out with any products from the current range….this year
However I see an inovative / less mainstream brand that I find interesting and will again appeal to me when these issues get sorted, I await the FS with interest, or will I just be buying “work in progress” ?.
RagTiFree MemberTried on some NW celsius ? last year, I am a definate 11, shoes, trainers, slippers the lot….., the 11 did not fit but the 12 was perfect. From my experience you may need to size up one ?.
RagTiFree MemberSaw a Foxy RR at Merlin last year, absolutely stunning…..even in dog shit brown!, reasonably priced as well.
Another huge positive is that they are quite rare out on the trails as well
Would I ?….I would!
RagTiFree MemberI can understand why people are pi$$ed off as most of the riding in Mytholm is done on FPs, I ride the same routes and regularly there are delicately placed boulders in the middle of routes etc.
In their infinate wisdom they have turned smooth boring FPs into boulder strewn rock gardens with drops offs
RagTiFree MemberHave run my 819s USTs on Pro IIs for the last 4.5 years. No buckles, flats or problems whatsoever. Only had to replace 1 spoke in their life to date when it got clobbered by a boulder. Great wheel but **** me !… zero on the blingage scale !
RagTiFree MemberPaddy from Emmerdale
Lisa Dingle from Emmerdale  :oops:RagTiFree MemberI take it all the cheap 990s have gone
I have just replaced my 990 (that lasted 3 years!!) with a 980 (there is only about 20gms in it!) from ebay for £25 4 weeks ago. Noticed today they have now gone up again, considerably.
Found the below for £33 delivered which is still outstanding value, Ok it does not have the blingy red cassette holder, but there is nothing in it weight / performance wise.
RagTiFree Member…..and who really gives a toss about geometry, if say you only have £2 – 2.5k to spend, which will still give you multiple options on a number of great bikes.
I would go as far as to say that 85% of this forum cant ride as good as the reviewers, the experts and the Rowan Sorrel types of this world, oh and those who constantly bang on about gemetry. Therefore geometry, single pivoting etc….is of complete irrelevance if you cant drop anything bigger than 1.5` and you ride through the middle of a berm with the brakes rammed on.
I do like 5s, as above I had one, I am also from Halifax but I am concerned over the way forward for them, people have less cash to spend, and will have for the next 5 years!. The en mass purchasing of the 5s was partly due to the great reviews from the MBR over 20 editions but now the prices have significantly increased people will surely start looking past this as a reason to buy.
RagTiFree MemberCrud catcher on one of them things…., sacrilage of the highest order. Plastic = Drastic.
RagTiFree MemberHa Ha Ha….my humblest apologies, my head is down in shame!
I will always spell epiffany correctly from now on.
RagTiFree MemberWas planning on doing it myself from my doorstep in Hebden next week
Bike choice is concerning me……
Ellsworth Epithany… Or… 1996 Kona Cinder Cone Hot Rod (100mm travel) ???
RagTiFree MemberFor that money….who cares if its crap! ?
WMB gave it a 9, amazing spec, but the most important part of the review said that is is not just another cheap frame covered in bling and expensive parts, the bike totaly works.
Doubt you will regret it, apparantly they also get delivered in a reusable bike box.
RagTiFree MemberI think my final colour has gone off the scale of bad taste but I like it :D
………….confirmed, then again it was probably required to cover the depression caused by riding your previous Giant reign, in grey !
Mk1 1 Escort…..drule ! 8)
RagTiFree MemberJeffus, you are clearly a fan of the 90s with your naff neon Fads !, I bet you are dissapointed peppermint green was not on the list ?
I see a bloke every thursday night on a neon green 5 with matched rims, he even drives a bright red BMW estate (debadged of course) which in other words makes it a 316i !!!, he also probably works in I.T. ?
RagTiFree MemberJeffus / Flow……its still 2 for one with free prescription sunglasses
RagTiFree MemberFlow clearly is a guy who owns an Orange 5, probably a Neon green one with colour matched rims and deems himself a little “crazy”. When I owened a 5 SE I also felt, for some strange reason, a little hell bent on protecting its integrity, probably because I am from halifax ?
Canyons are probably made by robots,……… the exact reason why I would buy one. The thing about robots is they can be programmed to produce perfection, frame after frame. They dont have mood swings, they dont turn up late, they dont have opinion etc…etc….
I noticed someone above mentioned the “trueness” of his 5 frame, my back wheel also was 7-8mm further to the RH side of the swing arm, I dropped it back in and they said it was in tolerence ?.
Off to drool over that crap looking cheap Canyon ?……….. with its £275.00 seatpost & £450.00 brakeset, worth a punt ?, at least if you didnt like it you could split it and make a margin !.
