I find it weird that people get banned for swearing in posts.

Walk into any pub in any place and you will hear expletives.

Seriously if you don’t want to hear ( see ) swear words go to a kids forum. I fully understand the reasons for banning people that fire off personal insults but surely this place is becoming too PC.

Hope you guys sorted your differences out.

I got issue 1 at the bike show too and have been subscribing ever since.
Think I remember it coming with a goody bag IIRC.

Sadly I think I have all the old copies in my loft.

I didn’t post much then ( I think it still may have been “go far” ) as I wasn’t one of the original suspects in the “virtual pub type thing” that this place used to be.

Don’t post much now either although I do lurk quite a bit.

A P McCoy’s gonna walk it according to the bookies. Followed by anyone else who isn’t a cyclist. Cav is at the bottom of the list. Shame IMHO as he’s the best in his field, like Amy Williams. Just not mainstream enough for the armchair sports fans :-(

Been snowing in central Bristol for about 30 minutes – hurrah :-) – and it’s pitching (sticking).

Pretty light covering at the mo but not expecting it to last

    Had the same from Endura.

Had an 18 month old pair of bib 3/4’s when the stitching around the chamois gave way and contacted them about a repair. Ended up with a brand new pair rather snappy.

Haven’t got the cheek to ask about my worn out 5 year old MT500’s though :-)

    Cheers for that.

I was liking the look of the CS300 as I really wanted it more for the bpm’s and could then use the speed sensor on my track bike.

I’m quite happy with my Cateyes on the mtb’s for speeds and usual stuff.

I think I’d be in trouble if I was trying to do less than 6mph on the banking

I was looking on http://www.heartratemonitor.co.uk/index.html and to be fair they look pretty impartial.

I like the look of the CS300 for it’s speed sensor being included in the box.

I made a complaint about the way a police vehicle was being driven and was thanked for making the complaint by the inspector who was allocated to deal with the complaint and the sergeant who took the details.

I’ve spoken to the inspector a couple of time since and he’s given me updates and also let me decide how I wanted the officer dealt with, formal or informal.

    Good procedure IMHO.

Surely it can’t just be me that’s been tempted to push the “emergency engine stop” button on the back of a bus being badly driven by a bellend?

there are other times where traffic lights make sense

Yeah like on the Avon ring road between 23.00 and 05.00 each night with all the traffic lights working on all the roundabouts controlling the traffic that isn’t there.

According to the British cycling website 11’s at Hengrove park on Dec 12th and 12 is at St Georges park on the 19th Dec.

    Plenty of pre Christmas muddiness!!

Anyone know what the course is like at Hengrove park ‘cuz I might go and play on Sunday?

I was working in some factory just inside the M25 when some guy came and told me that he'd just been watching the tv in the canteen and that a plane had flown into the WTC. I asked him what the punchline was and he walked away shaking his head.
A short while later he came back again and said he'd just watched the second tower get hit.
I phoned my wife and asked her what was going on and she said she was watching stuff she couldn't believe live on Sky news.
I left that place asap and people there were making plans not to go towards the city as they were convinced London was going to be attacked next.
I headed back to Bristol wondering if I'd ever get there when I realised the idiot Bush was in charge of the USA's nuke button.

    RIP Jason.

I remember seeing the sad news in a free mag I got at a race at Newnham Park back in 1995 (think I've still got it tucked away somewhere) and feeling strangely empty inside. I tried to explain to my better half what it meant but I don't think she knew why I went so quiet, even though I never saw him in the flesh.

JMC and John Tomac were my first 2 mtb heroes. I used to love reading the reports of the kamikaze and all the reports written by his dad.

    I've been here since 2002 I think.

Mind you I didn't post for ages 'cuz it felt like I'd just walked into a virtual pub full of regulars and I didn't want to join in the banter without an invitation.

It nearly always gives me a good feeling although I wouldn't want to commute on it.

Makes my offroad routes more challenging but it's ace in the winter 'cuz you can ride it, leave it covered in shite and then just grab it and ride it the next time with no seized gears or stiff suspension (yes it's rigid too).

Still use geared bikes for racing and riding out with geared mates – well apart from the outings to the velodrome anyway –

My daughter spent all afternoon doing nothing at school because several teachers were sent home early by the head just in case the Severn bridges were closed ffs.

The school is in Bristol and the teachers live in South Wales. IIRC both the bridges are on motorways and they can drive the long way home through Gloucestershire if necessary.

Why should my kids miss out on schooling because the teachers CHOOSE to live 40+ miles away. Their choice surely.

So just out of interest, what would you be driving at 8mph when a skip lorry pulls out in front of you?

You must be the pissed up knob driving a mobility scooter home from the pub

Yeah, it's even better now with the 50 speed restriction for the people not working on the section before j24 although the bit fro j29 to j32 isn't quite so bad.

I think it's about 16 miles in total. It's horrendous and although I'm no angel I do stick to limits in roadworks and average speed sections. I drive 30k miles a year in a Transit for work but really don't like driving a car through that lot.

Does anyone know of anybody who's been caught in the cameras in south Wales between Newport and Cardiff?

AFAIK it's a section of about 11 miles and I personally reckon it's now more dangerous with the way people in cars get 'pushed' by wagon drivers who want to keep trucking at 56mph on the downhills so they don't slow so much on the hilly bits.

And as for the **** that batter along at about 80 and then hit the anchors hard before accelerating again…….surely they should have lost their licences by now if any of those cameras are live.

If they aren't "live" (and there seems to be a lot of activity with cables and purple conduit) surely somebody is bending the rules allowing people to belive they are working already.

A lot of the people I work with travel into South Wales daily and pretty much all of them believe that junction 24 through to junction 28 is now way more difficult to drive through and demands a much higher level of concentration than before.

And who the hell decided a permanent 50mph on a section of motorway without roadworks on was a good idea in the first place?

    Grrrrr

Did a similar thing about 5 years ago and converted an Old Speccy Hardrock with a DMR tensioner and never looked back.

Ran it 32:16 from the beginning and I can manage everything around Bristol on it and have ridden it around Afan (Penhydd IIRC) without walking some of the steeper ups.

Bought myself a complete ss last winter with ebb and shortly will be putting the hardrock up for sale.

It's a great winter bike and the only thing that ever needs cleaning is you!!

Had a back muscle go into spasm last Friday.

Went to the physio and got it manipulated but my employers won't let me back to work yet.

Been signed off work until 12th November but I'm planning on taking an easy ride on the cyclepath this Sunday and planning on riding a bit pretty much everyday until I go back to work.

that's my biggest problem. It was my singlspeeds stem :>(

Yeah I now have a bike with no stem but my lbs seems to think there is stock to replace oem versions already fitted to bikes but they will have to wait for replacements for their stock.

Hope it's not gonna be a weeks wait, although rather that than having it fail on me miles from anywhere.

    Nice. :-)

I hurt my back last Friday and today I feel fine.

Been signed off work by my GP for 2 weeks and have to go to my local bupa wellness place for another assessment later today.

Wish I had a bike to build up.

I got a call from my lbs to check out one of these on a bike I bought a while back.

It's now been returned as apparently they can crack and fail through the middle of the stem.

Anyone had one of these fail on them?

While I agree that violence usually leads to more violence we often do things out of character when we feel threatened.

And why should we have to wear reflective clothing just because some **** doesn't look at what's around him / her when they're in charge of a car, they don't wear a hat saying "shit driver" so we know to take extra care around them.

Oh and as far as I'm aware plod are quite happy for cyclists to have flashing rear lights (illegal or not) as they tend to catch other road users attention more so than a static light.

    Second what Drac said.
Put the post in a decent vise and crush it and use the leverage of the frame to release it.

Done this twice to free alloy posts that had 'grown' into steel frames (and have the pics to prove it).

I think Cavendish also showed quite a few people how badly he climbs when he led a group of UK based riders up 'the tumble' (which apparently is a reasonably testing climb in Wales afaik) in the national championships a couple of weeks before the tour.

I think there were only a couple of riders ahead of him (I think Wiggins was one of them) and most in his group were quite happy to take Cavendish's wheel.

    Two here.
One an old Stumpjumper that I converted with a DMR tensioner and a GT with rigids on it.

May be selling the speccy soon as I need more room in the garage.
