I will point out that I normally ride with spuds, but sinec the mud ate the rear mech and hanger on my own bike I had to borrow that one (which, coincidentally usedto be mine) which had toe clips on it and only 1 functional gear (knacked shifters). So – early 2000s Marin Singlespeed, Mint Sauce Jersey, V brakes and toe clips. And it was my fastest lap of the race…

I’ve had a Westfield electro-acoustic for about 10yrs now and it’s still nice. Not particularly bling, except for the graffiti all over it, but it works and it was about £120. I gig with it every now and again and it’s a good enough sound for that (just little pub /open mic sessions, mind…)

Thanks for those guys, close to what I’m after. I’ve tried the seat rail clamp one before, unfortunately it snags your shorts if you have to go off the back on a descent. The ones I’ve posted the pic of are lower-profile and tuck out of the way – use them years ago then gave them to a mate who now lives in Dubai, so not much chance of getting them back in a hurry.

Those ‘gizmo’ ones might be worth a punt if I can’t find the pictured ones.

Well done on competing guys, it was a hard, hard event, especially if you don’t run a lot. I know a lot of the lead guys from Adventure Racing and Orienteering and even a lot of them were bollocksed after the fell runs – the night one especially.

You probably saw me at various intervals marshalling – I’m the bearded bloke who was directing you down through the river!

I’m with SFB on this one – Nikon 18-200 VR

Used it sea kayaking a while back. Shooting one-handed from the boat (one a D80) in a swell and it was absolutely crystal clear on 98% of my shots. Superb lens, and not as hugely expensive as it could be.

I like my 18-135 kit lens as well.

Normal procedure for score with SI units is that you just have to remember which ones you’ve done! I usually carry a red pen and tick off on my map or descriptions which I’ve been to.

I’ll presumably see you up there, although we don’t know each other. I’m marshalling on the event!
