Oh, and binners – I smile when I’m running. That’s because if follow my own advice and don’t take it too seriously :)

Most of the above. Run off-road, run unusual places, run where you feel like. Don’t be scared to go “ooh, that path looks interesting, I wonder where it goes”. Run how you feel, whether that’s a short fast sprint or a long slow bimble round the hills. Don’t kill yourself in the name of “must do more running”, there’s no point driving yourself into the ground and hating it even more.

For a good motivation, try doing Janathon (google it) – run every day in January and blog about each one. Have a look at my blog posts (http://pyrosyard.blogspot.com) on Janathon and Juneathon this year. Those two months were the big pushes in getting me from intermittent 5km runs to an 80 km Ultramarathon.

You don’t stop playing because you get old, you get old because you stop playing.

Part Cumbrian, part Geordie. My gf’s mates (from Birmingham) just refer to me as ‘generically Northern’. Works for me, long as I’m not mistaken for some shandy-drinking Southerner…

    There’s quite a few!

Best recommendation would be Skirmish near Aberford (A64/A1 junction) – paintballuk.com. Good pitches in the woods, lots of variety last time I played and a good set of marshals.

Harrogate Paintball Centre – paintballyorkshire.co.uk – looks alright. Not been to play but looked around and seems like a decent set of pitches to keep you entertained

Not tried the Yorkshire Paintball Centre – ypc.co.uk – but might be worth a look for any deals

Bottom of the list would be Elite at Hemsworth. Was there last week, 5 open pitches, all man-made obstacles etc. not much in the way of cover and a but boring and slow, to be honest. Felt slightly sorry for the marshals!

    Hope that helps!

I had a bit of a spate of petty kleptomania at secondary school. Nothing major, nothing worth more than a couple of quid or so, but when caught and confronted about it by my folks, I got into a stand-up fist fight with my dad, and ended up choking him unconscious.

Needless to say, that scared me sh*tless, and I vowed to sort myself out ASAFP.

The Grit. Well worth a look (whoever mentioned rockabilly) but not much stuff up on Youtube…

I’ve got a couple of mates who are NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) practitioners who would say that their art could answer all your problems. I’m a sceptic, so I’m not sure it could, but it might be worth a shot.

I know how you feel, for what it’s worth. A PITA boss in my previous job effectively forced my resignation, but after a couple of weeks of self-pity and a week of searching I found a much better (if temp contracted) job. Now getting my mojo back, bit-by-bit. The wee nagging negative voices are still there, but they are gradually going quieter in the face of my sheer awesomeness :D

Gaffer works well, other choice is Vulkan tape (climber’s finger tape). I tend to puncture and drain the blister then disinfect with tea tree oil and tape over it with Vulkan and Melolin if I need it.
To be honest, nothing sticks well on your feet, though. Too sweaty an area for good adhesion.

Christ, not ridden Setmurthy in ages! Not since a nature trashed his collarbone on the big berm-into-step-down near the bottom…

Fat people and smokers, predominantly. There are others, but those are the main two.

Gribs – not fatally bad, but a tendency to lose power and go squishy, even when they’d just been bled. May have just been my set, or an issue with the master reservoir, but in the last year, even after a full service, I’ve not had a ride where both have functioned as I wanted them to for the whole ride. I’ve got very adept at riding without a rear brake, as it seemed to be the worse of the two.

Yeah, very much so! Cheers for the opinions folks. Neither one’s a decisive win, it seems, so we’ll see how we go. Cheers!

Beautifully said, Yunki. Sounds like he was a cracking guy. My condolences, and stay strong.

England doesn’t have a national anthem. God Save the Queen is the anthem of the UK.

Personally, i’d rather have Land of Hope and Glory, or even Jerusalem. But it does make me laugh to see the Scots/Irish/Welsh foaming at the mouth when they have to hear GSTQ at the Olympics etc.

Love the ferret pic, have colleagues wondering what the hell I’m on laughing at that one.

    Common thought for on here:

Easy to loop over to Chevin through the back roads for a bit of fun. Some nice stuff over towards Colton/Temple Newsam/Aberford way as well. Though I find there’s enough variations on Meanwood to keep me amused for a few hours one night a week in between short drives to ride other places.

Depends which album. Liked UNKLE and some other bits, was absolutely blown away by Brainfreeze, but some other stuff didn’t impress.

On our local ride, there’s a little clearing with a fallen tree in it. More than once I’ve burst out of the singletrack into the clearing to the sight of a young couple just getting down to business. Mainly there’s just been a swift re-zipping of flies, but once it was a definite coitus interruptus moment, when the guy actually swore at me for putting him off his stroke…

No, but if I hold any of the red-tops to my nose and go cross-eyed, then pull the paper away slowly while uncrossing my eyes, I end up seeing a big pile of poo.

“Step out the front door like a ghost into the fog where no-one notices the contrast of white-on-white”
    would be one, or possibly
“Come gather round, a$$holes, chop me a line. I’ll tell you the tale of a good friend of mine”

Presumably someone bald? You would think hair would cause turbulence and disrupt the clean air flow.

Cheers for the suggestions! Coleman, if you do find them over the weekend, please do let me know. Can’t remember what my post size is offhand but it’s under 30.9 and there’s always the coke can shim method!

I’m not a big fan of his voice, but he is definitely a great writer. Have a look for Hayes Carll’s version of “I Don’t Want To Grow Up”, it’s a cracking cover.

Blew a foot long section of sidewall out on a Polaris challenge in the Dales a few years back. Fortunately I was only 500yds from the Tan Hill at the time.

That was the day I went to disc brakes, and haven’t regretted it since.

I’ve had a couple of books i’d recommend. The best one being “understanding exposure”, written for film photography but just as applicable for digital. I’m a purist, though, and i’d say (at least initially) avoid books on photoshop, lightroom etc – learn howto take a good shot before you starty looking at how to edit bad ones.

Erm, you’re a bit late on that. “I before E” was dropped from the curriculum some time* ago, as there are more exceptions to the rule than there are adherances.

    *can’t remember when.

    Edit: Quick google says 2009

PP – any thing on service/overhaul/U-Turn refit for a set of Psylo XC’s? Old, I know, but if I can sort the seals and try and sort the U-Turn to stay at 100mm, they’ll be great!
