Maybe I’ll try the train if it goes anywhere!

    You better hope it does…

I have no advice to offer. I like bikes, beers and my beard. Fortunately for me, so does my other half (7 years).

Well, we’ve got to have some semi-musical doddery old fart to wheel out for civic occasions. If it’s not Brian May at the Jubilee it’s Uncle Cliff the Singing Monk for Wimbledon or Pixie Paul for the Olympics. At least the first two had the decency to be in tune.

Ton, another +1. Prime bunch of turnips, players, management and fans.

Aside from that, all my hatreds are very rational and very specific, at least in my mind…

I usually invite whatever friend round for the evening while I’m working on their bike and tell them to bring some beers and a pizza (for us to split). We have a nice evening working on a bike and chatting, they learn something, and I get a free dinner. That’ll do me.

As someone (possibly on here) put it, supporting England at football is like being the over-optimistic parent of the fat kid on school sports day…

Making it a slightly international poetry day, the only piece of foreign poetry I’ve ever memorised:

    Kinderhymne
    Bertolt Brecht

    Anmut sparet nicht noch Mühe
    Leidenschaft nicht noch Verstand
    Daß ein gutes Deutschland blühe
    Wie ein andres gutes Land.

    Daß die Völker nicht erbleichen
    Wie vor einer Räuberin
    Sondern ihre Hände reichen
    Uns wie andern Völkern hin.

Und nicht über und nicht unter
    Andern Völkern wolln wir sein
Von der See bis zu den Alpen
Von der Oder bis zum Rhein

Und weil wir dies Land verbessern
    Lieben und beschirmen wir’s
Und das liebste mag’s uns scheinen
    So wie andern Völkern ihrs.

We’ve been told we’re not allowed to do any ‘hot work’, soldering or welding. Which, being a Project Monkey in the NHS, were obviously things I did all the time…

Guess that means I’ll have to go to Hainault then. Which, with the dropped H and the glottal stop, always sounds rude to me…

Bank? Sorry, wrong play. You’re in nib until another player crosses the diagonal now.

Flashy, isn’t that your second rule breach for misnaming? I do believe that puts you in Nidd, m’sieur…

Fantastic. If he’d wanted worse pictures of the director, I could have supplied him lots. I used to kayak with Neil intermittently.

Have two, both plain coloured (one black, one grey) fleece. They’re fantastic under a drysuit for winter kayaking.

Wouldn’t be seen dead walking around the streets or even the house in one, though.

WInd in the upper and lower limit screws to lock the position? If they’re not long enough to get the right chain line, you should be able to replace them, I think.

Troutie – did you go up from the Col du Tourmalet to the Col de Sencour (ruins) then up onto the Pic du Midi? and straight back to the Tourmalet?

There’s some ace singletrack if you drop from Sencour then turn right down past the little lakes and down towards the ski stations at Super-Barrege (I think) and Tournaboup. We ran that way on the Grand Raid des Pyrenees and it was my favourite bit of the whole course, jogging down thinking “I wish I had a bike down this bit…”

The only music video to bring me to tears, that. Released in March, June died in the May, Johnny followed her four months later, just brought home the “everyone I know goes away in the end” line.

Less Cash input, but have a look for “The Million Dollar Quartet” as well. A random jam session at Sun records, between Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis…
