How much of a horrific mud-fest is nant-y-arian likely to be tomorrow?

Never had a sram shifter seize, and the indexing is more tolerant to mud and manky cables. The jockey wheels are a bit rubbish admittedly.

    longevity

You have just fitted it and can already tell it has superior longevity? Impressive indeed…

    Because you're not pedalling efficiently.

What has efficiency got to do with it? How is it possible to pull your foot out of the pedal cleats if you are not pulling up on the pedals?

The not pulling up loses you nothing at all, since at best you only unweight the back foot slightly

Curious, not sure how I manage to pull my shoe out of the cleat on steep bits by slightly unweighting my foot!

It's from the greek letter chi.

Hardly comparable, it was a worse frame, worse forks and V's instead of hydraulic discs!

Thanks for the reply, will have a read, the prospect of german instructions and lots of small parts are worrying though…

    Anyone actually taken one apart?

As mentioned, Stockport clarion usually meet at the Arden arms at 7pm on wednesdays, starting from Roman Lakes this week though, so don't turn up unless you like hanging around in supermarket car parks in stockport…

Running pikes on mine, they are adjustable but I generally just leave them at 140mm all the time.

Bah, I have some bikesters that are barely 3 years old with a big hole in the arse.

Never had a problem with the triggers. Now the old x-ray gripshifts on the other hand, they were a nightmare to change cables on, you had to wind the cable back round in exactly the right position.

    sram – ball-ache replacing cables

    How so?

ATB ( all terrain bike) is more accurate than mountainbike

Leaving aside the question of how a term defined by usage can be said to be more accurate, ATB is a less accurate description! There is lots of terrain that mountain bikes cannot physically be ridden over.

Don’t do it man! How many wednesday evening rides down jacobs ladder are you going to get in London…?

Glad you enjoyed it Andy, and hope to see you again, there are plenty more trails out there. No need to get any fitter!

The 21″ 29ers are huge though, I’m 6’5″ and I reckon I’d probably be better off with a 19.5 rather than the 21 I have currently.

The reason I ask is JRA seem to be claiming that Stan’s drys out into balls which could be misleading when you shake the wheel.

Arrh, I have seen this with stans, the fluid was still in there but all the little bits had conglomerated into one big ball.

The mid to high end stuff is temperamental tosh. Engineering a set of bike forks is NOT rocket science. We’re being mugged!

If it is that easy, set up a company yourself making forks that are vastly better than all the current offerings and rake in the profits.

Exactly, people want lightweight long travel forks, there is inevitably going to be a compromise somewhere. Would be interesting to see how well forks would sell from a manufacturer willing to take a significant weight penalty to make them more durable.

    Why wouldn’t it work?

The mech needs a different amount of cable pull per shift.

Only a light scratch, I’m not suggesting taking a hacksaw to it!

264’s will be way too long, I’d check your calculation. Rounding up/down by <1mm should be ok.

Heh, I’d say the massive price rises have done more to make deore seem like a tempting option!

Had some conti gravities that were frighteningly poor, stuck them on the commuter for 6 months, after which there was no discernable wear to the knobbles. No surprise they had no grip when the rubber compound was harder than tarmac…

Have any of you lot actually read the question properly?

??? The first reply answered the original question, why are you answering it again? It also suggested they don’t work well tubeless, hence the other replies.

Surely if you’re going to defend the integrity of the language you need to be consistent ?

Why should that be the case?

C is quite easy to do, I was intending to pay after the ride the first time I was there but forgot. Paid double next time though…

Barnes’ route has some stuff that is equally as rocky as the descents from mellor cross, so might not be suitable. Could do a loop around etherow? There are non-rocky routes up and down Werneth low also.

I’ve got an entry I can’t use, if anyone needs one?

Have been doing 15 miles each way for the last couple of weeks (mellor to manchester, so ending with a big hill on the way home), I’m very glad they have both been 4 day weeks! Tiredness from a days work is definitely significant, even if it is an office job.
