I’m just in the process of moving my Alfine gear over onto a new frame. Does someone have experience with not having full length outer gear cable? The old frame didn’t have cable bosses, so I simpley zip tied the outer to the frame and it stretched the whole length. The new frame does have shifter bosses so would indicate that partial outer would be better.

BUT, I’m worried that might have adverse effects on the gear indexing, which is extremely fickle IMHO.

Also, to comment on an earlier point, I ordered a non-revers shifter accidentally a while back. Didn’t realise that there was a reverse and non-reverse option until I installed it. Still works fine, except 1 is 8 and 8 is 1. 🙄

My BMW 320d is just shy of 235k. Still purring on the autobahn. I have ambitions to get it past 300k, but fear the next MOT 😯

Up on Wavering Down in the Mendips. Never been up there before, but had a great day exploring new bridleways.

I’m a massive fan of Shostakovich.

Stick on Symphony No. 7. Then while listening to it, consider that the symphony was dedicated to the city of Leningrad, and that the first performance in Leningrad was during the siege in WW2. Since the Radio Orchestra barely existed anymore, musicians were put on extra rations and other musicians bused in from the frontline.

Then listen to Symphony No. 5 and consider that Shostakovich wrote this in retaliation to the threat hanging over him of being shipped off to the gulag.

Definitely go under. Even if it’s not the highest offer you’re still in the process.

I get the red mist when I look round a house and am told “there’s already one offer, and it’s at the asking price”. Seriously!? Who offers the asking price first up? It’s almost like they want to pay more for it.

“Here. Please. Take my money. Beat me with it.”

    👿

    Apologies. Red mist is descending….

    Taxi.

It’s Mirror. Signal. Manoeuvre. In that order.
The taxi basically made a late decision to turn left. The indicating was probably just muscle memory kicking in, and there certainly wasn’t any mirror. Had he checked his mirror first, this wouldn’t have happened.

Had this been a T-junction or cross roads, then it is the responsibility of the cyclist not to undertake. But this example is a side street.

    Love these.

2016 is the first year in my 4 year plan to enter and complete the Highland 550 (given I’m a bikepacking noob).
    So for 2016:
    – Welsh Ride Thing
    – BB200
    – Possibly a South Downs double

Allow me to direct you to Rule #8 for guidance: http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/#8

Although she may already be violating several rules with a bar bag. 😕

Budget would be about 80-120 a night I think.

She sits pretty well now, and is definitely on the move, crawling etc. Shes astonishingly flexible. All in all I’d say she’s a strong sitter. But I think she thinks it’s boring now.

Am aware I don’t need a cargo bike. But I want one. Also planning ahead. You can get 2 kids on a cargo bike. 😉

We’re off to Greece in a month with our 9 month old. Grandparents have a house out there so plenty of help. Just concerned about amusing her for 3 hours on the flight.

    Any tips?

Just returned from a weekend on Skye. It was ace. Must go back to the far north of Scotland.

Never been to Grimsby. What am I missing?

i know from experience that tom is not easy to stick to

Second that. Tried to stick to him up the Alp d’Heuz once. It lasted about 6 or 7 hairpins before I gave up.

Looks like we might be in for an epic battle out front between Josh and Tom.
    Can Tom catch him?

    Ah yes.

What’s Josh doing on the B869? Doesn’t appear to be anything there (pub, hostel etc).

Tough conditions over Bealach Horn apparently. Heard from Tom who is now in the pub.

“Hailing and blowing a gale that was hard to stand up in and impossible to ride in. Windchill was off the scale”

I’m certainly going to relish my warm bed tonight.

I was looking at the Apidura stuff.

Does anyone know what you can’t fit in the medium (14l) that you can in the regular (17.5l), other than an extra 3.5l? I mean in terms of physical “stuff”.

Smokers do my head in. I’m close to tarring all of them with the same brush.
In no way is it acceptable to drop your finished cigarette butt anywhere other than the bin.
Sadly I see so many on the pavement still.

For me (16km ea commute) it’s the guy in front that always gets me. I had the same problem when soloing in races, always trying to keep up with the team racer in front. Learnt pretty quickly that was a bad idea. Just trying to adapt this theory to my new commute.
Still want to catch the guy in front though 😳
That, and trying to avoid cars.

So the official line from Argos:

It’s fine. If it breaks, it’ll break slowly and start creaking first. Very unlikely to shear off and send me A over T.

Pretty much as per STW feelings then.

For repairs, I could go down the tube blocks route if I wanted, or even get the top tube replaced, but both would result in a re-spray.

Think I’ll just put a sticker over it and be done.

Taking it to the guys at Argos cycles tomorrow to get their opinion.

Will then go do one of two routes:

Frame blocks, touch up and covering sticker.
    or
    Ignore, touchup and covering sticker.

Think I might just leave it for the moment. Try to protect it from rust (I read nail varnish is good for this?) and put a sticker on it.

I do live in bristol though, so may well call the guys at Argos.

Thanks for the offer doncorleoni, not sure I’m feeling that brave though.

Certainly not at the moment. Probably best I don’t touch anything for a while.

I did a really awesome ride there last year. There’s a free tourist guide book you can get that shows plenty of options, some are more family friendly, but there’s definitely something in there for everyone.

We took a car up the hill and then just rode down via Villard-Recules and Allemond.

I could probably find the GPS somewhere….

Until very recently I ran 580s on my 29er. Thought they were fine and it’s what I was used to.

Just changed to 720. And I like it too.

    Personal preference init?

I’m similar to OP. Expensive stuff is road only.

Although I mix and match bibs. Baggies always go on top for MTB though

Depends if you need the power of the pro. I have a fully specced one for work and it’s ace. Battery life is not bad.

If you don’t need that power and would rather the battery life, go air.

You should be fine on Ralphs. I have one on the back and have been riding it all year. It’s pretty worn now, but still grips.

Passing/being passed is easy on those trails. I’ve done Bikefest twice as a solo. As long as everyone is nice to each other, there is no problem.

Thanks all. Reassuring to know my feeling of “what the hell do I do” is totally normal.

Didn’t get to sleep till 6 last night. For some reason she hates her basket at night. Now? Sleeping peacefully in her basket.
