Don, you bringing calendars? May see you there, if not leave with Dave in shop? Cheers

Rickos, I'm in Monmouth too so would be interesting to meet you Sunday if I can make it.

Metal is a good conducter so will be colder than the ambient temperature in an unheated store so condensation will occur when the air holds water vapour. Extra ventilation may help but is unlikely to stop the problem. Probably your best bet [if possible] would be to fix a waterproof membrane under the roof but not against it, eg a piece of thin plywood with an impermeable plastic sheet stapled to it fixed on battens maybe 6-10mm off the roof [ie roof/gap/damp membrane/plywood]. If the gap could be ventilated and a drainage channel constructed to allow the condensation to run off that would help. Hope your DIY's good!! :?

I'm with Drac, don't really get this middle-lane-hog thing unless they are unnecessarily restricting the flow of other traffic. Stay there as long as you like if there is slower moving traffic in the near-side lane and you're not holding up traffic coming up behind you.

How can they properly call it a "World Championship", when it's so far away from most of the world?

That's probably what the kiwis thought when it was in Berlin and Aviemore. At least it's not in USofA again :?

Any excuse for a trip to NZ is a good one but I'd have to sell a bike to fund the trip. Mmm…

I'm not totally tea-total but I do have to be very careful. For darcy's benefit [ ] the reason for me is health ~ I have had bits removed leaving other bits that are apparantly 'cute' which can leave me rather uncomfortable, sometimes for several weeks if I over imbibe.

Interesting to hear Kim Howells [ex Foreign Minister] on the radio this morning commenting on the Iranian involvement in the kidnap. He denied that there was any suspicion of this by our Government. What did catch my ear though was how he commented on the Iranian regime, saying that it was difficult to know who calls the shots and suggesting that it was a system to be criticised. Apparantly they have a figurehead [Ayatollah] and an elected civilian government with a leader [prime minister]. Then you have the Iranian Revolutionary Guard which has factions acting in foreign lands. So, not unlike a figurehead [queen] and an elected civilian government with a leader [Brown], along with MI5 and its agents operating in foreign lands. Any similarities? That's one of the reasons Iran stands more independently than some of its neighbours; we can't invade on the grounds of trying to impose a western style democracy on them.

Excellent day out with the Cotswold Massif STW branch of the RA

Cold, wet, slippery, windy, leg-burning, did I mention cold? So why is it that we actually enjoy stuff like that ~ maybe it's single brain cell syndrome  Great to meet a few new faces, well done to those that put in the miles to get to the ride; hope you all got home / to destination safely and without using your mobile phone whilst driving  "Get off your phone" shouted by 17 people should have registered really!

Cheers Si, Don for the ride. I needed that. Really… :D

Why not just say "we didn't set out to deceive"?

Because it doesn't necessarily have the same meaning?

He may well have been being ironic but by adding "Or just someone with their head up their arse?" possibly just concedes that he is more literate than you?

Trickle vents are not mandatory unless the windows being replaced were required to have them under the Building Regs when originally fitted [Background ventilation under the Building Regs does not even have to be in the window frames, it could be in the form of a wall vent for example].

Warmer air has a greater capacity to hold water vapour. If there is a source of water vapour in a room and it is at or near saturation point then it will condense against the coolest surface first. If this is your window then that is where the condensation will manifest itself.

70% of all series/defenders ever built are currently still on the road, no bad for something nearly 50 years old!

Over 60 years old now [1948]. My 1955 Series 1 is still up and running :-)

Nice and cold here on the FoD/Wales border this morning. Got to the top of my drive to be greeted by a car on its roof on the bend (driver OK and other drivers calling emergency services). Minced down the hill and took it steady for rest of ride; took an extra 10 minutes on a usual 35 minute journey but arrived safe and warm. Proper freeze here this morning, normally mucky sections were good and crunchy; what appeared to be water across the lane was deathly silent black ice.

TD5 90 here as only vehicle. 110 will be heavier on fuel than your 90 but will tow better. You'll actually have some useable space too! The TD5 is a nice engine but you have all the electronics that go with it compared to your current 90. Having said that, mine hasn't been a problem at all (89,000 miles). You know the rest :D

…sometimes people just need to stand up and say "NO".

Are you saying that you should stand up and say "no" to cyclists riding where they shouldn't be or are you saying that you should stand up and say "no" to people telling you that you shouldn't be riding where you shouldn't ought to be?!? :D

I generally ask the complainant who they are; no-one has yet wanted to share this information so I generally just say "ah, nobody; just as I thought" before I carry on my way.

    look here

You will be required to provide a log of your riding experience especially with regard to organising, managing, leading groups. Remember that the course is to learn how to manage and lead groups, not just about fitness and riding skills (although a certain level of riding skill will need to be demonstrated).

    Enjoy it :-)

I've always considered that 'breathable' garments work best when the weather / atmosphere is dry therefore allowing the moisture wicked away from your body to dissipate. A waterproof and breathable garment worn in the wettest weather will always be compromised; it may not let the rain in but, equally, your sweat cannot escape into the atmosphere.

Looks like they were having great fun redthunder. Dog Sled events have become quite popular in FoD in recent years, some pretty big weekend events in the Mallards Pike area. They've had man v horse v mtb at Llanwrtyd Wells so dog sled v mtb at FoD seems like a good idea :-)

Does anyone remember those occasional STW FoD Singlespeed meets we used to do a few years back? Psling used to 'organise' them…

[puts hand up] I do ! [/puts hand up]

I understand there will be a local tax on each 26" wheel entered into ssec'10 and maybe a cheese / beer bartering service?
