    Not that I can remember.

At least your lot would have had plenty to talk about after you’d disappeared and if the police didn’t come to find you they obviously didn’t give a sh1t anyway. Enjoy work tomorrow…

I didn’t even realise wife needing a MOT was a thing? Still, mine would be classed as historic which is probably a good thing because she’d likely fail the emission test…

I bet you’re riding one of those gravel bikes, aren’t you…

[mid 40s? Time to think about an e-bike?!?]

You may have answered an earlier call with your name and not realised/remembered. Or hubby may have said “who is it ……(name)” loud enough to be heard by the caller. Like you say though, hopefully that’s the end of it.

Are we talking technical climbs with roots, rocks, step-ups or smooth fireroad climbs?

My guess is that it’s a  wrong number. Someone does owe money but has either given wrong number or moneylender has tapped in wrong number. Unfortunately for you it happens to be your number mrspondo1664.

Don’t know if your provider can identify (from times of calls?) and block the number otherwise you’d have to block all withheld numbers?

We  all know we should live within our means but some of the wealthiest people I know live pretty much entirely on some form of credit or other. I’m talking people with multiple properties, driving Bentleys, generous entertainers… they don’t see living off credit as a millstone, they see it as a means to an end.

Me? I’m too conscientious and couldn’t do it. I do wonder who’s the fool sometimes but generally I’m happy with my lot.

You’re talking about a couple of hours in the summer, in the dry, and potentially in a shelter. No need to overthink it – a warmer jacket and something like an Alpkit Hunka will be fine. I vaguely remember spending a few hours under a hedge/in a bus shelter/in a telephone kiosk (really!) wearing just jeans, cowboy boots and a tee shirt after missing the last bus/train home. Never seemed to get hangovers in those days, either…

I was a big fan of the Hal and Roger Willard Price books as a child.

Me too, encouraged my love of reading in the 60s. Moved on to Alistair Maclean, Hammond Innes, Neville Shute and have always enjoyed some dramatic fiction since.

I have TWO of those *glorious* Lowe Alpine bum bags, in that colour….

Puts hand up… another one here, same colour.

Latest addition to my collection is the Ortlieb one (following your recommendation on bbbp Scotroutes I believe).

When I need a bit more kit I pull out the Wingnut.

Well, you have two options I’d say.

1/ Blank her. But that’s not going to work because your fiancée is bring home the shit and laying it at your doorstep.

2/ Try to find out why she has these outbursts. It’s not normal behaviour for a healthy and happy 64 year old so there are obviously underlying issues; depression, addictions, grief, loneliness. She probably needs help but getting her to help or getting help to her is a whole new issue…

The circumstances were scarily similar to Lyanda’s though. Knocked me back a lot, dealing with this while still grieving for Lyanda.

The one big difference though is that your Grandmother was 93 years old. Cliché I know but celebrate her life, don’t mourn her passing.

Dealing with grief is different for everybody; even the same person will find grieving for different people can vary significantly. It is very possible your children will deal with the passing of their Great Grandmother more ably than that of their Mother. Still totally shit though, you have my sincerest thoughts.

Greasy with wheel-sized holes filled with leaves ;-)  Dowies not really affected by the wet (except for the old ‘son of…’ Does anyone still ride that?), Shutcastle some wet roots, Staple-edge same. Dry yesterday, drizzling today, mostly riding fine with decent tyres.

Sowing the seed for me there, Drac.

The anaphylactic shock thing seems to be more likely with a peanut allergy. I’m in my 60s and have suffered a nut allergy since I was about 5 or 6 but this is what might be called a tree nut allergy (although I can also react to coconut). Back in the sixties people would remark “how unusual” when my parents advised of my allergy. I do not suffer anaphylactic shock; I get a wetting and tingling in my mouth and, if I ingest, I usually vomit almost immediately. I avoid peanuts and don’t actually know how I would react to them (though I have kissed girls that have eaten peanuts and I haven’t died yet…).

I also have to avoid marzipan and almond based mixes which I can react to, though not so violently.

I have a farmer friend. He’s outstanding in his field.

Did you hear about the magic tractor? Turned into a field.

What do you call two rows of cabbages? A dual cabbageway.

Not sure what that gentleman rides but I occasionally ride with a lad who is about 24 stone and of similar upper body build to the guy in the photo. He’s no slouch on the bike; he also covers the rugby pitch quite rapidly for a front-row forward.

As for those near a tree with nuts on. Well that’s simple, it’s not all nuts the most common being peanuts. Not only do peanuts not grow in the uk they don’t grow on trees.

Of course, peanuts aren’t actually nuts. So with regards to the OP it would appear that peanuts would be allowed on the premises.

Ah Bob, I’m working on the basis that if Simon travelled 27 miles and climbed 1900ft then he also descended 1900ft within those 27 miles and, assuming there were no flat bits, and all gradients were equal the real climbing would be 1900ft in 13.5 miles. He used basic maths to divide ascent by miles so using the same maths he could claim 140ft/mile. I was trying to make him feel better!

Of course, he could have ridden 26 miles at a steady gradient and 1 mile off a cliff which is why your figures are the correct method ;-)

Personally, I find continuous level riding the most tiring. No descents to recover from the climbs, just continuous pedalling with no relief.

I was out last night, did 27 miles and, according to Wahoo, it was 1900ft of ascent. Felt pretty hilly to me, but then I’m not massively fit and a bit tubby.

The maths says it’s 70ft/mile, does that count as hilly? If not, is there an accepted ft/mile number that counts as hilly?

Your maths is wrong IHN  – assuming you started and finsihed in the same place half of that 27 miles would be downhill therefore you did 140ft/mile. That make it feel a bit more ‘pretty hilly’ for you?! (fitter than you thought, eh!)

Could I just point out that Saint Nicholas – Santa Claus – was indeed a real person and the whole presents at xmas thing seems to have evolved from his propensity to give gifts. Just saying like.

Seen enough unnecessary blood as a First Aider and IMO it’s selfish to go on a group ride without a helmet

    and

“As a coach and MTB Leader…

Scary combination! Remind me to avoid your rides!! Too much blood even wearing helmets; sounds too risky, I’m out. ;-)

I sometimes wonder about what and how helmets are worn. Out of date? Properly sized? Properly adjusted? Correctly fastened? Not damaged? Straps secure? Straps not frayed? Never mind the should you or shouldn’t you debate!

TBH from Cotic’s point of view it’s also probably a declaration of intent, this ain’t your dad’s titanium XC bike.

That made me chuckle, I am that dad! I wouldn’t give up  the quality welds and finish of my old DEAN ti bike for this one. I think if I wanted a rude hard-hitting big-forked hardtail I wouldn’t be looking at ti as a frame material, no matter how nice it looks. And that bike does look nice :-)

Blimey, I thought I’d just wandered into PrimarySchoolTrackWorld for a moment.

So, he’s disposing of a piece of his property. You, not unreasonably, ask if you can have it and he, for whatever reason, says no. His right. So you get all precious and then send another friend round to ask the same thing. He gets the same answer. Now you’re all falling out and don’t want to play together again.

Next time you’re getting ‘jiggy jiggy’ in the bedroom with her…

take your surf board  into the room with you.

Or tell her that her hair style doesn’t suit her now her face is a bit fuller.

I’m guessing when you say ‘taking possession of’ that the garage is remote from your house? Possibly in a block of garages?

You may not be able to fit a roller door depending on height/headroom.

I would fit double outward opening doors with a good concealed lock and if greater security is required without making it an advert for valuable things within I’d be fitting a secondary steel grill and door inside.
