I might just drop some acid and watch that again tonight… 8)

They’re two separate areas but can be linked; not a lot there except tracks to houses. Couple of half decent routes through though and can be linked with Dancing Green. I sometimes ride through on a loop (which includes some tarmac lanes) taking in Ruardean, Howle Hill, Hope Mansell, Dancing Green, Lea Bailey, Wigpool Common, The Wilderness, Edgehills, and Ruardean Hill.

Another one for the North to South Wales stage here, will probably watch above Builth Wells (as I did last year) then follow it down to Devon. It’s become a bit of a camper van road trip for me the last couple of years. 8) Happy birthday Sue, I must be 4 days older than you

And let’s face it, if you need a 38 you probably are a weekend biffer

Mmmm, Aus. A friend of mine is currently living Margaret River, WA. I get the impression life is a bit more laid back there 8)

This birthday has caused you some grief, hasn’t it?! Wasn’t it you that posted a short while ago that you’d fallen out with friends for letting you down over a festival you were going to for her birthday? Now it’s your parents. Best put her 40th behind you, enjoy your holiday then get back to normal 8)

Given the ‘proximity clause’ of which you were originally aware it looks more like your own constructive resignation than constructive dismissal to me… :?

Missed this thread first time round.

One of the things I notice on the roads here is the need to be in front, the attitude of ‘you’re not getting in front of me’.

In the OP, the cyclist could have conceded the space and allowed the taxi in; equally the taxi could have dropped in behind the cyclist (but I’ll bet the driver behind the cyclist would probably resist this!).

Drivers are annoyed by cyclists who need to filter through traffic stationary at lights (I’m not including cycle lanes and forward boxes in this example) rather than wait and move with the traffic for the same reason; they hate anyone getting in front of them.
Same occurs sometimes when you’re overtaking in the car and the person you’re overtaking speeds up to close the gap you’re heading for that was there when you started the manoeuvre!
Another example is when two lanes filter into one; it’s generally best to fill both lanes and merge in turn but most people get apoplectic that someone is pushing in and getting in front.

You want safe roads? Allow longer for the journey and chill. Yeah, right…

I’ve wild camped up there a few times

me too, nothing like being woken up in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere by (what seemed like) very loud unusual noises to eventually pluck up the courage to peep out and see in the torch light several wild ponies munching the grass just a few feet from my head 8O

If you are visiting with the wife & kids, head for Beechenhurst Lodge rather than the Pedalabikeaway Cycle Centre. It’s close by but is more family orientated 8)

Depends how far you get before you’re off and walking! Probably no more than half an hour. It’s followed by a track across the tops and a long fast descent before a big fire road climb followed by a much better but equally fast descent. Overall time will depend on your fitness; for me it’s a 4 hour plus ride.

If you’re camping at Trecastle and you’re looking for a couple of hours fun you could try Cwm Rhaeadr trail near Llandovery. It’s worth a visit IMO.

Both are ‘big’ rides but neither is particularly technical. On the Black Mountain loop the upper part of the biggest ascent is a hike-a-bike, the ascents on The Gap ride are more rideable. I prefer the Black Mountain loop because overall I think it is a more involving ride 8)

I think you probably set the tone for debate when you waded in with this considered and eloquent starter:

Anyone that chooses not to wear a helmet is stupid.

POSTED 4 HOURS AGO # REPORT-POST

It’s not unreasonable that others might expect you to expand on why they are “stupid” really :?

Ah, people who change riding line, stop or turn without checking around them for other riders – that’s a whole new debate…

Well, I only have one road bike; it has clearance for mudguards and slightly fatter tyres. I wash it occasionally and keep it maintained. I ride it all year round but I don’t race it. At the end of the day, you choose what you want and if one bike is enough then one bike is enough. You can only ride one at a time. Having said that, I have several mountain bikes…

Isn’t it more a case of having a winter trainer so that your racer doesn’t get spoilt by all the muck, grime & road detritus?

Edit: sorry I appear to have come over all STW, criticising grammar

Given the irony of the particlar case above I think you are permitted in this instance

Any other riders I see I stop them for a chat, suggest a coffee and invite them to be my FB friend then maybe invite them on holiday with me if we’re really getting on. Draw the line at a nob though…

I think I might try something more achievable….like nailing fog to the wall.

Don’t bother trying water-based adhesive; I’ve tried, it doesn’t work.

Firstly you have to be comfortable with yourself, secondly don’t see everyone you meet as a potential partner; the rest should follow. Eventually. Possibly… 8)

Probably the same as the longest ascent but done in reverse. Isn’t that somewhere in West Scotland (or am I thinking of longest continuous road climb/descent)

psling

May be the greatest height loss messiah but not necessarily the longest descent. (probably is though  )

Aha, nice edit

It should be fine from go, pop back to the dealer for tweaking. Are you using a tensioner? Could be set up wrong. If all parts are new, you may have a faulty part out of the box, it does happen. I would expect a dealer to ensure all parts are compatible (or to advise if not if you specified them).

How many times has the ‘sub divisions’ question cropped up on here, even when you used to be STR? Blimey, you’ll be wanting a Coffee Forum next…

GoFar/STW has always had the jumble of topics in one place (or, at least, very few places). It has built a character of its own that seems to be successful; no need to change that base character IMO and changing the format to multi-fora would change that identity.

I’ve taken the Thurs/Friday off to visit the Welsh and the Devon stages. It’s become something of an annual event for me, look forwards to it each year.

There’s loads to do here! Though, if you want the city lights you’d be better off moving to a, erm… City
If you want it there’s a vibrant music scene, plenty of sport, cinemas, eateries, even theatres. Once upon a time STWers used to come here to experience the delights of the nightlife between mtb pootles  If you want big clubs and city night life you need to travel to Cardiff, Bristol or Cheltenham which are all within striking distance.

There are a few mtb trails here too

Ah, Community Service eh?

Some ladies like a bad boy, think they can be the one to tame them and put them back on the straight-and-narrow (bit like blokes who dream of pulling the hooker and converting them to the one true love). It is community service isn’t it? Manual work outside wearing a ‘uniform’?!

Depends very much what you’re looking for.
Town, Village or Country.
Kids, no kids (schools, colleges, etc.).
Working locally or commuting (to/from where).
It’s not a bad area to live but properties come in all shapes and sizes, it’s easy to fit in if you want to, there’s lots going on if you want to get involved but it is rural, the kind of rural with an industrial history mostly which can make it seem drab in places albeit with a great sense of community.
Spend a couple of weekends/mid-week breaks with your Blakeney friends and have a good look around would be my suggestion 8)

Couple of campsites:

Cherry Orchard Farm
Rushmere Farm

The Pedalabikeaway centre can get busy when there is an event on; DH events usually use one or two of the DH Trails but the Verderers [blue] and Freeminer [red] trails will still be open.
