FoD would be a good 30mins drive in the wrong direction for you. Only area heading East that springs to mind would be to pick up the ridgeway just south of the Swindon M4 interchange but that’s open byways/bridleways, not woods. Wrong direction for me (I’m FoD) so hopefully someone will be along soon to tell you about the trails behind the Building Society in Swindon (or whatever it is)!

How are you travelling and in which direction home? Forest of Dean is the obvious, 15 miles to the West. Malvern Hills to the North. Around Wotton-under-Edge to the South. Cranham to the East (though I’m not sure what the current legal/moral status is there).

Guess everything went well then. If it was removed due to gallstones then goodbye pain :-) It’s quite a deep op although the four little holes you’ll have in your abdomen don’t suggest it. Now get used to managing what you eat/drink and, equally, managing your personal waste disposal system

Believe it or not, a lot of the drive train isn’t really designed for back-pedalling; ramped rings, hooked teeth, etc.. The first thing I’d check is the mech alignment at the chainring but, having said that, my money would be on a sticky freehub.

It has already been speculated in the news that there were two false passport holders on the flight.
(Equally, on the French flight there was a passenger noted for his campaigning against the South American drug lords/trade who was speculated to be a target at the time).

I’m afraid mashiehood that even when catastrophic disasters occur involving massive loss of life, life does go on and sometimes without even the slightest acknowledgement of an incident if there is no personal involvement. At least the incident has been acknowledged here and is being discussed albeit with a few light-hearted throwaways.

As I overtake other riders whilst wearing lycra I tend to subtlely clench my buttocks as an acknowledgement of their presence.
Passing in the opposite direction I find a subtle thrust of my lycra clad groin generally elicits a wtf reaction.

It may never have taken off in the first place and may be some kind of massive insurance scam. Whilst we’re all speculating, right?

No misconceptions here. It’s light entertainment; laddish humour and irreverance to get a rise and be a bit confrontational. What they do they actually do quite well and that’s to be controversial.
It’s a bit like lighting an oil lamp in a room full of moths… 8)

    Things I noticed:
JC’s chins – my goodness, there’s some excess skin there these days.
The pig on the bike – our recreational use of the bike pales into insignificance compared to countries where it is essential transport.
How contrived it is – driving the wrong way all day to finally arrive at a pre-booked hotel. Eh?
Hammond on a horse – he needs to take lessons off his wife who is an accomplished horse rider (and given the horses they own and keep, I suspect he too is a capable rider).
RH drive on the RH side of the road? Excellent fun 8O

Sounds similar to the plane that went down off the east coast of South America a couple of years ago. Can’t remember the outcome of that one but if I remember rightly it was some time before they discovered any wreckage and eventually the black box but I believe that foul play was ruled out in the end.

So superfli, on a road where it is necessary to cross the white lines to pass a cyclist is it safer for 6 riders to ride tightly as 3 pairs or for the 6 riders to be strung out in single file? If you were driving and needed to pass, which grouping would make things easier for you? Just being curious really as you’ve just TOLD all of us to ALWAYS ride single file and I’m assuming you must therefore be some kind of expert.

I’m surprised mrmo. The regular driver is local and helps run the DTV (Dean Trail Volunteers) who help build and maintain the mtb trails.
There may have been two vans on today; I saw two as I was riding from Monmouth direction this morning. You also get similar rigs (minibus and trailer) in the area from schools, youth groups, activity companies, etc.. Was it definitely FlyUp?
Which road were you on? Cannop to Mireystock or the A4136 Monmouth road? Just being curious really.

Possibly come with the back plate (the bit in the shoe that the screws screw into)? Just guessing. In true STW fashion, I don’t actually know

Did France just do to Scotland what Scotland did to Italy? In a way I’m glad France won; it’ll encourage a more competitive effort against Ireland next week. Perhaps.

Further to mattsccm’s comments it’s possible that the driver is a family member or, if not, then a long-standing employee. It’ll be interesting to see if the local press pick up on the story. I’ve never had a problem locally with their vehicles but I was nearly taken out by a McArthys drawbar trailer rig last year in the FoD and it really is a heart-in-mouth moment :|

Bottom Bracket gearboxes. There are a couple out there now, they’ll be improved on and prices will (hopefully) slowly drop. Sealed against muck, low CoG and in the middle of the wheels, what’s not to like 8)

We have two types of people at work – those that will tell all and sundry when someone is off sick that they’ve “never had a day off in x years” when we all remember the odd couple of days they have actually had off over the years, and those who religiously come in and cough, sneeze & splutter over everyone else and then moan when half the office are then subsequently off sick

People who never take time off work whether it be a hangover or a broken leg are either very forgetful or very selfish IME; it’s hardly a badge of honour even though most of us are embarrassed into believing that it is, probably started during our schooldays when sick days are frowned upon.

Cycling shouldn’t be a problem but pain management is essntial if you have an ‘attack’ whilst out on the bike. As others have said, the pain is rolled-up cold-sweat nauseous-inducingly intense. My gall bladder was removed within a couple of months but, like p8ddy, acute pancreatitis was/is involved in my diagnosis.
As well as fatty foods, avoid alchohol and hot spicey foods IME.

It serves well to remind us just how much it can actually cost to run a school, be it private, state or acadamy.

Ps what are the ‘on costs’ that double the salary bill?

I have two main alternative routes if I cycle commute, one on-road and one off-road. Today if I had taken the on-road route it would have involved two longish stretches of road under about 18ins of water; if I had taken the off-road route I would have been riding through about 5ft of water! I drove via an extended high level route adding several miles to the distance instead. River Wye between Monmouth and Ross as high as I can remember ever seeing.

I did it with an early 90s Litespeed; short 15′ rise stem and Nito ‘tach type bars, singlespeeded with eno rear hub. Rode beautifully and (IMO) looked really good but… the 26″ wheels with narrow tyres looked ridiculous! 8)

Well, a very rough rule of thumb for a production bike suggests that you lose 50% of retail value once it becomes ‘preowned’. Since yours is unused and based on the research hebdencyclist has done for you I would suggest £450 if you want to sell. If you want/need more then you may need to hold out beyond a “quick sale”.

More information would help; your ad is a bit ‘might be selling’.

Size (given) and price are important starting points IMO, and (link to) images would help.

A discussion I have been involved with once before likened drinking to religion; it was suggested that it is human mental frailties that lead to the need in a lot of people for some kind of prop/support whether that be religion, alchohol, drugs, adrenaline sport, or a mixture. Some people are predisposed to relying on external crutches to support mental frailities. Also, boredom can play a big part in someone pouring a drink, lighting up, tucking into the chocolate.
I guess that if you are able to manage it, fine. If not, as you say, it’s the slippery slope…
