First ride today with my medium, feels very secure and I like the extra coverage compared to my previous 661 Recon.

    Fit seems very good too.

Bestest Xmas pressure from Miss P, Bright Green though so I’d better up my game – will perhaps go for the whole retard enduro look on Sunday’s ride with some goggles for the downs……

I’ve just been out for a shakedown ride on my brand new Giant Reign – before I even rode it
I replaced the 150mm Revelations with a set of Pike RCT3 Dual Position Airs (160/130mm) and I agree with everything said above, they are superb.

Mine were less than £600, brand spanking new, from bike-discount.de – compared to over £1148 from the same place for Fox 34 Talas!!

Up to you what you buy…….

Looking forward to Redbull’s coverage on Sunday :-)

Made my own batch of Sealant following the above recipe that I got from MTBR forums a while ago. Anyway… I can tell you categorically that whilst it worked, it was not as effective at sealing holes as Stans, and it certainly dried out a whole lot quicker!

Apparently the Propylene Glycol is added to stop it drying out as quickly and to avoid it freezing in the winter.

The ATV Tubeless Slime (supposedly) has “Fibro-Seal Technology” – sounds good doesn’t it – that seals holes up to 6mm. This, combined with the latex seems like a logical mix.

Anyway, mine’s only been in the tyre for 2-3 weeks so I’ll keep an eye on it and see how it lasts.

By my reckoning it only has to last 1/4 of the time of Stan’s and I’m in pocket 8)

    1 Slime
    1 Latex
    1 Propylene Glycol USP
    2 Ultrapure or Distilled water
    slime? this stuff?
latex, is that mold builder mentioned further up?
sorry, it may well be explained in the thread but that’s 90 pages to sift through, can you give us a clue please?

Slime – you need the ATV tubeless stuff see: Clicky

Make your own. Great thread on mtbr about this. Cheaper than the rest and will outlast them all.

Agreed, I bought all of the ingredients to make Wadesters WSS V1 and made up the first batch a couple of weeks ago. Saw evidence of it working on Monday evening’s ride and it worked perfectly.

Total cost per litre works out at £6.26 vs. Stans at £27.46 (£12.99 per 473ml bottle)

could you post link to the recipe please?

Here it is, at the bottom of the second post – I’m using the V1 mix with pure variations at the very bottom of the second post:

    WSS V1

I managed to 3 out of the 4 ingredients from shops/businesses close to home, so I avoided postage. The one that I couldn’t find close-by was the Propylene Glycol USP so that added £3.49 post and packing to the total cost.

For elbows I’d recommend the G-Form ones, the slimmest ones I’ve tried on but the black magic polymer stuff in them really seems to have worked – I’ve had a couple of big offs that have involved landing on elbows and arms and have come out unscathed.

The last of these three shows the G-Form pad in action

    Schwalbe.

I use their 20″ tubes for ghetto tubeless and the removable core – when used with a coke-bottle reservoir – means the tyres inflate first-time, every-time.

EBay’s usually the best place to get them, but got the last ones from Amazon as they were a bit cheaper.

SB8 is a great dry tyre but not sure it fits for you… Kenda’s Slant 6 might make more sense? It’s barely slower, not as good in dust/very loose small stuff but much better in mud as it doesn’t clog. Sidewalls are exposed due to the lack of sideknobs but they’re not delicate- I’ve put some decent gouges in mine but never a problem.

That proves I am a ham-fisted fool then… Peak District rocks put a 2″ slash in my Slant 6 last summer (on the 1 dry day that I was able to get away with using them). Up until then they felt great, fast-running with plenty of grip but the sidewalls were as thin as tissue paper!!

I now have an EXO sidewalled Maxxis Crossmark as my dry rear tyre and that seems much tougher and just as fast-rolling.

Revelation RLTs spaced down to 140mm on mine – had Sektor RL U-turn 110-150mm on it previously and never changed them from 140. Have a 50mm stem and 780mm bars on it as well and it’s a cracker going downhill and I get by going uphill….

It’s open today, tomorrow and all weekend (thank God, we’ve had a trip booked there for Sunday for a long time!!)

They’ve had to spend a lot of time clearing the tracks but now, apparently, it’s all clear.

Yes, I’m the same height as you and I’ve got a medium. One of my mates has a Large but he’s at least 4″ taller than me.

I think it fits me perfectly, noticeably smaller frame than my Large Trance X that I have for XC.

I’m predicting that every mountain biker in Manchester will find themselves at Philips Park on Friday morning.

    Who’s bringing the tea urn?

I agree, three of us were up there last night as we couldn’t get out into the Peaks and we loved it. First time there for all of us and we were all very pleasantly surprised, they’ve really got the maximum out of the terrain.

Dry trails, fast and fun, perfect for a quick – fun – spin out at night. By the end (probably the 5th time around that little section) we were going quite quickly on the anti-clockwise red and, even for crap jumpers, we were all getting reasonable air off all of the jumps. Great laugh!

I think we did just under 11 miles and didn’t see another soul – apart from the couple that we interrupted in the car park when we got back at 9pm! The young lady driver must’ve been looking for something in the glove-box, or why else would her head have popped up from the (lucky) young lad’s lap?

eightyeight – yes, consistency of manuals is a real problem for me too. Sometimes the front only comes up by a few inches or so but then other times I’m panicking, grabbing the back brake to haul it back down.
Just need to practise, I guess.

Love the way that Neil Donoghue manuals some sections of that boardwalk, I tried that the last time I was there and very nearly ended up coming straight off the woodwork

Did manage it on some of the small doubles later on and I confirmed to myself that I am a riding God (or is that just in my own mind?)

    Mr Agreeable
So this month’s segment appears to be on a bridleway, and the promo video for it features some goon on a 6″ travel bike mashing along it as fast as he can. I wonder why a large section of the population think mountain bikes have no place in the countryside.

So when you get to a nice inviting descent, do you purposefully go as slow as possible?

If the video had showed him terrorising walkers or horse riders etc. then fair point but..

Perhaps I’m too charitable in assuming that everyone will have common-sense and won’t try manualling over labradors or hucking over a band of walkers. Will the Strava red-mist descend over everyone and normal, sensible, law-abiding citizens turn into rabid racers? I think not.

My current summer option for the rear – may well break it out this week  – is a Crossmark EXO in 2.1″ in 62a compound.

Fast rolling, quite light and the EXO sidewalls stand up well to the rocks in the Peak District.

that decent from WLT is the footpath that zig zags down behind the pub. it’s easy to take it by accident as i did, great way down tho

So do you get to it by turning right (almost doubling back on yourself) down that steep, rocky (very inviting looking) path when you’re at the top of WLT?

Cracking descent that Bland, don’t know that one down to The Ladybower Inn. Will have to look on the OS map, how do you get to it?

We were up there last Saturday and our final descent was the one from Whinstone Lee Tor down to Cutthroat bridge and then to The Ladybower Inn – weren’t conditions great?

Always full teenage mutant ninja turtle gear for me! Full 661, hard-armoured, pressure-suit. FF, Nukeproof knee/shin pads and full-fingered gloves.

With the weather as it is and the track conditions as they are – wet and muddy – I’m finding my Royal Racing pyjamas to be an absolute God-send. For the winter, I can’t recommend long pants enough.

That being said, I can’t wait to ride my DH bike in shorts (plus knee/shin pads by the way) this summer…..

    According to Strava:

    YEAR-TO-DATE
    Distance 100.6mi
    Time 16hr 42m
    Elev Gain 12,559ft
    Rides 10

All good, MTB, off-road miles in The Peak District.

Will, hopefully, get another 10-15 in tomorrow night as well.

Pretty pleased with that, a record for me by loads. Long may it continue :D
