36-42 would be a big jump!

Works perfectly on mine, clicks in place with the same ease as all of the other gears.

    XX1 has a 36-42 step……

Agree with Northwind about the jump from 15 to 19 though, I’ve got a 16 so I’ll give that a go in place of the 15 to see if it makes any difference.

Yay, 28th out of 38 in Vets – I’m not embarrassed with that for my first attempt at Enduro.

    Two questions:

    1. Anyone know who was taking the photos, I’d quite like a pic of me mincing along in full Enduro gear :-)
    2. We’re there really 80 odd DNFs, DNSs or no shows? I thought that there were 250 odd entrants, I was No. 243! I wonder how many people signed-on?

    Top fun!!

A great mix of natural and trail centre including a couple of stages with big chunks of the DH tracks in them, including (so I’m told) the NPS track.

Good fun but I’m a little tired now…..

The built wheels (no cassette or rotors etc.) weighed 1584g for the pair – they’re the 33mm wide AM, 26″ versions with Hope Pro 2 EVOs and the bladed Pilar spokes.

By the time I’d fitted Formula rotors, Ti bolts, a One-Up converted XTR cassette, a Specialized Storm Control on the rear and went full tubeless I saved 998g over my old wheels and set-up. Even I can notice that difference!

Very happy with them, first ride last night and the difference is amazing – very fast accelerating :D

No, mine are the 26″ 33mm wide AM rims. Hookless was a step too far for me, carbon was enough for a first attempt :D

Does this mean I might get 3rd place in Vets or will there be others that will prevent me getting a podium?

Yay, they’ve arrived!! Had to pay £37 odd for customs clearance (including Parcel Force’s charge).

Just used one layer of Stan’s yellow tape (25mm), put a tube in overnight to press it down then popped one side of the bead off – removed tube and put the Effetto Caffe tubeless valves in (thought I’d need these as the rims are so deep) and poured 2 scoops of (homebrew) sealant in and simply pumped them up with my trackpump.

Incredibly easy and they look good:

Bloomin’ light build too – saved 568g over my previous Superstar AM-490 wheels 8)

Yep, it’s my first enduro so really looking forward to it!!

I’ll be the one with a yellowy greeny black Giant Reign, wearing a stupidly bright green Bell Super Helmet and displaying all the signs of “All the gear and no idea” – but I know that I’ll be loving every minute

Oh and it’s Veteran’s class all the way for me!

The long drive up to Hamsterley Forest to do the XC in the morning then a bit of uplifted fun in the afternoon, in preparation for the Enduro up there on 30th March.

But that just crosses off another excuse “well I was last because I didn’t know the course/area”

I’ll bring mine down in April, you can see what you could have won

Stop rubbing it in, still awaiting customs clearance – could be up to 7 days, so they’ve just said :(

    Blah, blah, blah

OK, cool. Won’t be able to make earlier in the week, so it’ll be just the Sat and Sun for me then.

Are you thinking of the Friday?

If so, what time are you intending to get to Gisburn (if that’s decided)? Might take the afternoon off and join you if that fits.

Yeah, they’re available, just not yet fully listed. Just ordered mine! See if I can get them built before Proutster.

Pretty good chance – still “awaiting customs clearance”

Chinese New Year – rubbish time to order! Plus then they had to wait for the 40T hubs…..

Should be on the bike in time for my first Enduro race at the end of March and then for our Wales trip in April (that’s if they haven’t exploded into a fireball by then).

All part of the plan (I’ve got all of the bits ready to go on) to reduce the Reign down to below 28lbs – but that’s a pre-accurate scales calculation….

The bike, with 160mm Pikes up front, should be pretty useful then – pity it’ll be let down by someone who’ll be happy not to finish last

Black Hope Pro 2 Evo (40T engagement) and the black bladed Pillar Aero X-Tra spokes.

    Fully murdered-out, innit!

My 33mm wheelset, albeit with old-style “hooked” beads are currently at Coventry airport in customs clearance

Can’t wait to get them and shed a tonne of weight from my wheels – OK, not a tonne, but over 550g 8)

Have also ordered some accurate scales so that all of my calculations are shot down in flames….

[jealous]looks rubbish without mud and walkers and with a blue sky[/jealous]

Moving at a fair lick for a trail that never looked as though it was going downhill (that’s the problem with a GoPro though, isn’t it).

Nothing in those woods- its all muddy mulch off the stone paths

    Not looked far?

There’s some great, steep, DH trails not a very long stone’s throw away. Or are there?

    I’m in!!

Really looking forward to it, my first Gravity Enduro race and only my second race ever…

Going to try to get up to Hamsterley beforehand so at least some of it looks familiar.

With my Bell Super Helmet and goggles I’m sure that I will be the very definition of all the gear and no idea

Cannot recommend Zees enough, haven’t had any leaking issues either – so much more power than the Formula RXs that came, as standard, on my Mondraker Summum.

Be a trailbuilder. Nip up the hill with a 360, dig a deep ole, throw your victim in, cover it up with hardcore. And nobody will be able to accuse you of sanitising it, doesn’t get any less sanitary than a decomposing corpse.

There’s a, curiously, grave-shaped depression in the depths of Macc Forest that makes me think that this isn’t a coincidence.

It is, spookily, in one of the darkest parts of the Forest and only about 10 metres from a new line that we (haven’t, it wasn’t us honest guv) been riding-in this winter – perfect location to bury a body……

See my last post in LB Wheels

That’s the widest 26ers and bladed spokes.

Should be leaving China in the next few days (after New Year’s finished)

Thanks, that’s £53.16 at PayPal’s current exchange rate, now all I need to do is get a narrow/wide chainring in time for the end of Feb :D

Well, I stopped faffing about and ordered the full wheels from LB today. They’ve said they’ll mark the value down to (hopefully) minimise the taxes, but let’s see what happens. With PayPal’s exchange rate it’s worked out at just under £579 delivered.

Unfortunately because they’ve got to wait for the 40t Pro IIs to arrive it looks like I’m going to have to wait until after the Chinese New Year before they’re sent – so they should arrive in about 4 weeks. I’ll post up again when the arrive.

Here are my lightbike rims – picked up from Mark at Overspoked today who built them up for me. All in about £450 including build and customs duty. Very light and Mark said they build well. Will update when ridden but I can heartily recommend Mark and Overspoked (he’s in Bewdley in the West Midlands if anyone is interested)…

They look good! What was the spec for £450 all-in, we’re they the new, 33mm rims? Being a saddo as well, any idea on built weight?

Be careful with the LB price, will most likely get caught for import duty and VAT as well. might be better to just get rims shipped over then take to a local shop for build on Pro2 hubs. Not a lot of point in buying UK made hubs that have been shipped to China and back then paying import duty on them!

My rims had £25 import to pay 2 weeks ago.

So has anyone else had to pay VAT? 20% makes a helluva difference to the price. If that happens, then it’s up from £578 to £694 and that’s without any import duties.

Done a bit of surfing and I could get the rims made up to the spec above for £695 (that’s with Sapim CX-Ray spokes) – so the same as LB if I have to pay VAT.

Hmmm, what to do – at those kind of numbers I might even go for the Syntace set for another £100. That brings a great warranty:

Syntace gives a 10 year warranty on all material and manufacturing defects. A potentially necessary repair or exchange occurs free of charge in the first 3 years warranty period, in the 4th-10th year warranty period, a 50% discount on the respective current retail price is offered. The warranty does not apply to normal wear and tear or damage due to impact to the rim etc.

    Zee brakes are awesome.

The shimano 2 piston stuff is too on and off for my tastes. Zees have lots of modulation and lots of power.

    Nowt more to say really.

Puzzled by this contradiction, I’m sure my Zees are 2 piston?

BTW, I think my Zees are superb. Swapped from Formula RXs on my DH bike to Zees and I love them, loads of power and – as deanfbm says – lots of modulation as well.

Thanks for the replies guys, I’m still leaning towards the Light Bicycle carbon wheels – been swayed by the light weight, wide rims and (dare I say it) the rarity value.

LB have just sent me an invoice based on the EVO version of the Pro IIs (40 points of engagement), so I might just press go and try to get them before the Chinese New Year kicks in :-)

Yep, the recipe that I’m using is from the mtbr thread above, I think it was labelled as WSS V1 by a poster called Wadester:

    1 part ATV Tubeless slime
    1 part latex
    1 part Propylene Glycol USP
    2 parts deionised water

I only mix up 250ml at a time as it doesn’t seem to have good “pot stability” in that the latex coagulates together into a “booger” (see the above mtbr thread for a long discussion on those…) when left in the bottle. But this doesn’t happen when it’s in the tyre, I guess the regular agitation of riding helps keep it separate.

Cost worked out at £6.26/litre which is pretty good compared to £27.46/litre when buying a 473ml bottle of Stan’s for £12.99.

Works very well and the benefit of the slime is that it’s green, so you can really see when it’s working :-)
