I agree, some of his posts smack of trolling but this is so tongue-in-cheek that it did make me chuckle!

How many psi in the bottle did it take?

Same as you – 80ish psi. Also only worked when I took the valve core out – but then it popped straight up.

How comes I never get anything useful from Halfrauds?

I’ve found that it is far better to be lucky than good looking :D

Thanks to all who posted on this thread – managed to inflate an extremely stubborn Swampthing tonight using a 2 litre lemonade bottle! It had resisted all other efforts, almost used up a whole bottle of washing-up liquid the other night with no success.

Bit of a let-down though, the tubing cost me £2.49 from Halfords!

You’re right, no big loop flapping near the back wheel – but look at that big loop flapping near the front wheel

I cut mine to length and didn’t need to bleed it.

The trick (which I think I picked up somewhere on tinternet) is to hold the hose upright when you unscrew the fitting, whilst – and after – you cut it. You can then screw the fitting back in without any air getting into the hose.

    Worked perfectly for me.

I’ve got the 2 bike version of the Buzz Rack and yes, it is heavy. But it’s never going to break!!

Mines on a Freelander 2, so no problems with the nose weight.

I’d recommend the Buzz Rack – just the same as I’d recommend my bike, shoes, helmet, gloves, tyres etc.

The only place I could find them is under News, then click on the grey “Premier” box that appears underneath in a kind of sub-menu.

This then takes you to the extras that Premier users get.

If you click on the one entitled “Singletrack Magazine Issue 70 and Editors’ Choice Digital Edition out now” and scroll down, about half way you’ll see some maps for the Caldbeck route and then there are the links to download the GPX files.

There don’t seem to be any GPX’s to download in Issue 71 but there are in Iss 69 (Exmoor). The one I want is the Long Mynd route that’s also in Issue 69, but can’t I see that anywhere.

    HTH.

Quick spin (or that was the plan until I got up to Charity Lane – see below) round Macc Forest.

Found some new (to me) single track through the woods as well – great fun, if a little slippy on the wet roots with my summer tyres on (fitted two weekends ago – prematurely as it seems).

Rode Sat, Tues and Thursday but….

Did the “every- other- weekend” hobby of golf today, and I played pants!

From about the 4th hole I wished that I was out on my bike – I wonder if the love will ever come back? Hit some huge drives but, because I haven’t been playing as much, messed a lot of them up.

Need to practise more but while the weather’s this good, tthe urge to go out on my bike in the evening wins, hands-down.

Anyway, tomorrow I have the delights (if I can find them) of Dad, Grandad and The Dentist and Breasty Haw around Grizedale to look forward to – let’s hope I don’t get too lost.

Three of us out round Macc Forest tonight, great ride and found some new (to me) off piste bits.

Great fun – about 5 degrees colder than Tuesday evening though – noticed that as we left The Leathers Smithy :D

Transmission – 9 speed SLX throughout, double and bash.
Brakes and Pads – Deore + Superstar Sintered Pads
    Tyres – Front – Kenda Nevegal 2.35″ Stick E
    – Rear – Kenda Slant Six 2.35″ Stick E

Only fitted the Kendas on Friday (had been on the winter tyres of Swampthing front + Mud X back until then ) ready for yesterday’s ride around Hayfield, fast running, dry trails – very impressed with the Slant Six on the back. Fast but enough grip for the dry. Really good across the moors (Middle Moor?) from The Shooting Cabin to the A624.

I have the 2 bike version of this:
    Buzzrack

It’s a bit heavier than the equivalent Thule one, but was significantly cheaper (I paid £139 for the 2 bike one from The Roof Box Company).

No wobbles, sturdy as hell – recommended.

    Things that need finishing:
    Decking needs a clean.
    Pots need tidying.
    White back wheel.
    Cables need shortening.
Brake cables to be changed to white (got them, just not got round to fitting them).

DMR Ex[alt] with Magura Wotans (set at 160mm in these pics).

    Enough red and white?

proutster – I was particularly looking at the area around Acre Lane, which appears to be just west of Bramhall. Do you know that bit

Yes, just down the road from us – it’s got the best off licence I’ve ever been inside on it!!

Some friends used to live off there and it’s just up the road from the Hursthead schools where the kids of lots of our friends go. Apparently they’re good (no kids here, so no idea myself) :D

Bramhall is a good place to go out, 5 or 6 good bar/grill type things etc.

IMO whilst the towns further out are nice they all suffer a bit from the “small town mentality”.

I’m here in Cheadle Hulme (at the Bramhall end – that’s ever so important, don’t you know) and we can only hear the planes when they’re taking off to the East. This only happens when the wind is coming from the East, which is the complete opposite of the normal, prevailing wind.
When the wind’s coming, as normal, from the West the planes land to the West and we can never hear them – they obviously take off in this direction when the wind’s like this (into the wind) and we can’t hear them then either.
We’ve been here for 9 years (moved up from Surrey) and I love it – nice friendly people, lots of places to go out and only 20 mins on the train into the centre of Manc. Plus I can be in the Peaks within 30 mins.
If you can afford it Bramhall is nice, that’s our (probable) next move.

I’ve got Sektor RL U-turns on mine (110-150mm) and was winding them down to 110mm for the climbs and then up to 150mm for the downs, but following a great trip to Gisburn Forest in Dec where I left them at 140mm (before Sag) I now leave them at this.
This made real sense because with the Reverb now fitted I don’t have to stop at the top of the hills to drop my seat, so got fed up with winding out the forks too.
Was great around the classic Ladybower loop yesterday, so I’d say go with 140mm as a max.

Ahh the cheeky detour, known to us as narnia

That’s it :D Narnia it is from now onwards!

I was in Macc Forest this morning and it’s wet but perfectly rideable – I did the short route as detailed above but with a cheeky detour halfway down Charity Lane that takes you back to the ruined house.

I normally only do this detour at night (very little chance of walkers then) but as it was raining today I figured there wouldn’t be many red-socks about. Only met one group just before the first set of steps and they were fine – a cheery hello and thanks seemed to do the trick.

The only problem with this route is you then have to do the climb back up to the top of Charity Lane again!

After the steep switch-back hill I then prefer the route back through the forest but watch out, there’s a tree down across the trail just where the downhill run crosses. I had to carry the bike over the tree.

Good fun and I’m lucky because it’s only 20 mins from home.

Yes, did exactly as you’ve described and it works perfectly.

The remote sits nice and snugly next to my SLX shifters and should be (virtually) impossible to damage in an off – thankfully it’s not been crash-tested yet :D

    Here’s my Trance X4 with Sektor Coil U-Turns (110-150mm, 15mm maxle)

Great for climbing on 110mm and superb for descending on 150mm!!

Since this photo it’s now got a Reverb 2012 post and some XT pedals – must stop spending…

I ride with exactly what you’ve suggested – ST 2.35″ single-ply Swampthing on the front and 2.0″ Mud X on the back. Both are run ghetto tubeless at 22-25psi.

I find this combo superb up here in The Peaks for grip on wet rocks but also to get me through the muddy bits + I also ride once per month on the South Downs with a work colleague and they work really well on the wet roots down there.
I’ve found that there’s an amazing difference in grip (not surprisingly) going to ghetto @ low pressures compared to tubed at 30psi.

Although DMR have recently stopped making them, the Ex[alt] can take up to a 2.5″ rear (and some users say a 2.7″ Maxxis will fit).

I’ve got a Dual-ply High Roller 2.35″ on mine and there’s absolutely loads of room.
