@sharkattack, have a test ride on one, I really like it. Had an Er6 since I passed my test and it was ok, but over the winter I’ve been concentrating so much on throttle control it’s been stressful and not enjoyable.

This is soft and controllable but will keep up with traffic and not buzzy, it’s the first bike I’ve ridden (out of 3) that I’ve actually wanted to keep riding or actually go for a ride just for the sake of it.

Tried the tripper coming home today, not a fan so far but might be useful on occasion. The app is clunky, and you have to rely on the automatic route, no route planning capabilities yet.

It appears to talk into your helmet too, but my headset is crap and couldn’t really hear the instructions.

My dad had this problem in the 80s with a council owned verge outside our house.

Started with cones they got nicked. Got some cones filled with concrete, they didn’t get far with them. Eventually settled on 4 or 5 big decorative boulders. Every now and then someone would leave part of their car on them but never had any trouble, if someone did try and sue you you could counter claim for them damaging you lovely boulder.

I used to do 20 miles each way day in day out all year so I think 35miles each way would be easily doable one day a week if you work up to it.

As others have said, I’d take in as much as possible on day when you’re in the ar so you don’t have to carry much of anything when you’re on the bike.

Sounds like it’d be nice tbf, I use to enjoy my long ride to work, and extended it when I could but it was a slog by the end of the week and when I was under time pressure to get home it could be a misery, especially in the winter

I heard a jet go over my house this morning but checked Flightradar24 and it said it was a Van RV8A doing 450knts despite having a propeller max cruising speed of 180. Not sure if it was an error or deliberate misdirection?

Not ridden either so take with a healthy dose of salt but everything I’ve read points to the 650 being the better bike.

From my limited riding experience I’d not bother with the litre bikes unless you’re doing bigger motorway miles where the lower stress will be a benefit.

My 650 twin is more than fast enough for A&B roads (thirsty enough too ☹️)

Edit- just seen you’ve got a Versys 650 ignore all that then. Get a big 1000XR if you want something sporty and kind on the knees

There’s two standard Cannock chase pictures

    The riders picture

Or the magazine picture which is pretty much from the same place but to the right a bit to get more trail and less sky

    A bit.

We went from 43 to 55 to get an oled TV last year. Seemed freakishly large to start with but used to it now.

When I’m watching films if anything I’d still like it to be bigger, but it dominates the corner of the room, and limits the choice of tv stands we can have. On balance I don’t think I’d want to go back, but if I could I’d have a separate room for movie watching with a bigger screen or projector and stick with a smaller one in the living room. But I can’t because my only spare room is full of working from home tat.

I bought one from primark a couple of year ago for about £8 it’s the warmest lightest jacket I’ve ever had. I wear it under my jacket on my motorbike when it’s stupidly cold and stay super toasty.

It’s got a hood though which is bad because it’s not as comfortable round the neck as a mid layer. Will probably be wearing it at lunchtime today when I go for a walk with the boss

I got a flats lite kit for £50 of Facebook. It’s great, pain to set a pedal up but it’s great for practice, I can sling it in my car and carry the rest of the family too.

Would be good for home use, I used it at a gig too for a laugh and it was fine.

Agreed, might struggle to get £100 on eBay. Should double that easily on a specialist group

Yes definitely will depend on the spec, kits done command much second hand unless there’s something special about it. Cymbals and cases on the other hand…

There’s a really active Facebook selling group if you’re on there.

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/513803248680014/?ref=share

Worst thing is there is some tasty gear comes up and reasonable prices, which is dangerous.

I think from the POV of someone that has grown up in the borders it might not be great, but for us midlander’s it’s not far off paradise. When the sun in shining there there isn’t many other places I’d rather be.

Actually had to bail on the beach last may because It was too hot and we paddled in the Water of Ae instead. Bliss.

I hate outdoor road rides in the evenings, summer or winter.

All of the chavs are out, people pissed off about being delayed for 10 seconds aren’t late for work so they can take their time to berate you.

I’d second the turbo idea, or go out early if you can, being aware of ice of course, crashing on black ice is scary and painful (done it twice now) so I tend to stick to the turbo or off-road now over the winter. Or even (heaven forbid) running.

Blimey that’s nice. Not sure it’s actually the bike in question though… suspension forks look a bit firm

It’s definitely on Spotify, I’ve just joined a band with a load of old punks and having to learn some stuff I’ve never listened to including the jam, it’s definitely got a good catalog there’s been times I’ve found stuff on Spotify not on Apple Music.

Apple Music pays more to artists, and I like the way it integrates with your owned music, but I like the Spotify suggestions better. I was listening to a 90s rock playlist the other day and it was like someone had walked past my house every day for a few years in the 90s and made a note of what I was listening to. Mega.

We go to Lochmaben on holiday most years, sometimes multiple times per year. I love the area, maybe not so much Dumfries town, but the whole area seems great to me but I am from the midlands.

If I won big lottery money I’d decamp to a castle up there in a heartbeat.

What Greybeard thinks saxonrider wants to do looks bloody lovely.

This is what I do, which is fun, but rarely lovely. First race back in March since September 2000 cannot wait.

A toblerone, that’s pretty cycling related isn’t it?

Also some cash, which I could spend on online bits, but we’re off to LA in feb if omicron doesn’t scupper it so I’ll probably save it and spend it on donuts instead

We started ours off with Goldeneye as an easy way in. Although my two weren’t all that fussed, if they were keen to watch I would have started them from the beginning.

Hmmm, Mazepin not top of the list.

Wasn’t going quick enough to cause any real damage I assume.

I’m all seriousness he spun off loads at the start of the year but only clipped things, probably didn’t cost a lot in repairs

I think with it being the week before Christmas I can understand their choices. It’s my birthday at the weekend plan was to go to the cinema then out for a meal in the evening, but we’re swapping the meal for a takeaway and risking the cinema for a combination financial reasons being desperate to avoid Spider-Man spoilers and hoping for the best.

I’m getting my booster tonight, the rest of the family had covid in October so hopefully we’ll still be able to pop round to see the old folk over the Christmas break. I don’t want to be wasting my days off being I’ll that’s for sure. If I’m going to be sick I want to get paid for it 😂

I’m currently doing the Back To Fitness training plan after a similarly crap year fitness wise

It’s 2 workouts per week 30-45 mins each. Each one is quite strenuous but not murderous, it also leaves time to do other things – races, group rides a ride outside whatever.

Yeah no doubt, I’ve done Ventoux twice on the turbo fro different sides, I couldn’t wait for it to be over but that wasn’t because it was on the turbo, it just really hurt.

There are some long routes on zwift that would be perfect for a long ride, might just have to adjust the feedback level if you’re tying to keep your HR down on the climbs.

I really need to do some longer rides on zwift over the winter I’ve really slacked off at the end of the summer this year.

Congrats! I passed mine in the spring and bought an absolute beater for my first bike.

I do like the KTMs and the Enfields, I really like the Himalayan especially for the price but I’m worried it’ll feel slow after the ER6, not that I like to ride fast, but I’ve loved not having to wring its neck all the time like I did with my scooter.

Definitely check out insurance before you get your heart set on anything, even with 2 years ncd the difference between a small engined cheap new bike and an older big bike was surprising. I could have insured a 2013 CBF1000 for less that a 390 Duke.

I’m in the same boat with having to cart a laptop to the office and back everyday I’m in (also twice a week, you’re not in my office are you?) and unless your commute is very short I’d seriously consider something to keep the laptop off your back.

I’m riding my motorbike to work, it’s only 20 mins and it kills my shoulders. No way I’d be cycling with this load on my back

I use/d 2 cateye Rapid x2 on the seat stays and an exposure link on my helmet.

I also used a German approved front light as well as an 800lm Evans job on the bars and a white rapid x2 on the headtube.

The rapids are great, just bungee on battery lasts ages and puts light all over the place.

The link is good too because it’s high up and gets a lot of attention.

I only ever got hit by a car once and that was a blind spot issue in a small suv, no amount of lights would have solved that

I would consider myself a proficient paddler, but my god this thread has opened my eyes.

I’m a placid water paddler/racer so I’ve never really had to consider the dangers, to the people considering paddling but worried about the dangers, I find paddling fun even on the canal and would recommend it to anyone.

I’ve always fancied doing more whitewater, but living in Cannock it’s a decent trek to anything other than Jackfields, I’ve been down Nottingham WW course and JJ Canoeing in Llangollen but both of them are an hour+ away.
I certainly wouldn’t be going somewhere local without an expert though.

I’m in a similar(ish) situation, I’ve not ridden outside much this year at all, most of my riding has been on zwift. The weather hasn’t helped, I cba riding in the muck so I can’t see me getting out any time soon either.

But I’ve been here before with Drums and road cycling. I know I could sell up and use the cash on something else, but eventually that desire comes back and it’s much more expensive to re-acquire this stuff so I’m not falling for it again.

I might sell my power meter, because that’s a massive extravagance for the few outdoor road rides I do but I’ll be keeping the bikes and kit.

Maybe just trim the collection and downgrade some luxury stuff you could live without ready for when the desire comes back.

Edit – I’ve just seen that you’re local to me, if you like to ride at stupid o’clock in the morning let me know, When I bother I’m normally back for 8:30-9am and now it’s a bit lighter in the mornings I might venture out when the rain holds off few a few days

I hate it when my long flexible knob wanders around everywhere. Just the worst…

It’s an issue I’ve read about (in the specialist press) but never experienced myself.

As a Cannock local I’d you’re just going to the trail centre any tyres will be fine/similarly useless.

Tbh I just ride whatever tyres my bike is fitted with and deal with it, it doesn’t seem to make any difference at Cannock unless you have something with stupidly thin sidewalls or mud tyres with long flexible knobs that wander around everywhere.

    Er yeah, all of NMTB

Might have to revisit it in my old age. My teenage self didn’t understand what the fuss was about. Don’t like their most famous songs anyway, I was genuinely pleasantly surprised at Silly Thing, a solid tune.

I hadn’t heard of it before I saw this thread but it’s similar to how I trained for my half marathon a few years ago from a base of zero running to a not embarrassing time.

Starting off in the winter I did a lot of very slow runs with walking up hills, by the summer I was banging out 10 miles before work at 8:30-9 mile pace quite comfortably.

I’m going to go back to that this winter as intervals don’t seem to work for me, I much prefer running long and sloooooooow. Gives me more time to listen to music anyway.

The only downside is that there is more opportunity to soil myself.

I fell in love with the fiddle player a bit, at least until that slightly mis pitched bit near the end. Rest of it was good though.

I’ve got an audition for a classic punk band tonight so I’m boning up and realising I really don’t know my punk history.

Who knew the pistols had some actually good songs.

You need to go natural fibres for duvets. Highest percentage of down to feathers you want to stretch too.

My duvet (now our duvet) really needs replacing as it’s lost it’s lüft and it’s probably super manky but it’s been amazing. It’s a goose down and feather one, I think I had it when I was about 16/17 and I’m 38 now.

About £150+ for a new one, I really struggle to sleep under normal duvets, like you say, no weight and they don’t breathe so they get really hot.

If you’ve got a jysk near you they’ve got some good looking ones for not huge money

Not read all of the other replies but here’s my experience

Slightly better performance than my previous single piston cable discs. Infinitely better than the constant fettling that the pure cable ones needed.

But performance isn’t a patch on full hydros.

Personally, I really like them, for commuting they were brilliant and much cheaper and easier to retrofit than full hydros.
