Licences have changed but as long as you’re over 25 you can still do direct access. There’s places all over the place, you’re looking at £5-600 minimum from novice to get your licence. I keep pricing it up. Wife still won’t let me

These are a bit more expensive, but I’d fancy this for the extra off road training.

Both for me too. Crud catcher stops splashes off the back of the front wheel, bender fender stops the muck flinging off the front. With both on I harly have any muck on my front. Arse is still covered though.

Any views on the USB route?

I don’t think any android phones autput audio through the USB, I could be wrong and I’d like to be but I think you’d need an iphone for that.

The official trails never get soft, and the unnoficial ones that I’ve done (not many TBF) never dry out. Yin and yang aye it.

Car dealers do that on autotrader constantly, but then motor traders are even dodgier than builders

I think it’s great other than the fact it’s ugly and siri has caught a cold (on my ipad mini anyway, others sound fine)

Still not going to spunk £550 on an iphone though, not a chance. Even worse on contract, the one plan on 3 works out to cost £700odd over 2 years. Mental.

Has anyone suggestes Everything is Illuminated’ yet? One of my favourite films, probably mainly because it’s got the singer out of Gogol Bordello in a starring role.

Takes itself a bit seriously in places, but it’s funny and heartwarming, and generally just nice to look at.

Haven’t US bikes got the brakes on the wrong handlebars?

Probably, not hard to swap though

I’m not going to be able to offer any usefull advise as I almost only ever ride cannock and it’s always been fine in all weathers.
It’s a useful tip though, I didn’t realise how different they all could be. Will be more wary in the future.

Om my hack I had to hacksaw a tioga factory xc of a cheapo sun rim. Broke every lever I had trying. Bought some old fashioned metal ones shortly after, but luckily the cheapo conti’s I stuck on after were better (still need the metal levers though. Killed the park levers)

There’s a private mode in the bottom left of a new window, apparently, I overheard some people talking about it in a cafe.

    It’s stuck in America.

Exactly what I was going to say, if you’ve got an apple store near you book in to see them, they’re pretty good with that kind of thing even out of warranty.

Edit: try giving the socket a clean out first, just incase dirt is messing with the connection.

Used to have the cateye bar end mirror on my commute, great for riding in traffic. Tightened up sufficiently it never needed adjusting.
It was great for a quick look to see if it was worth doing a full shoulder check, if something’s there no need. Means less time looking back at cars, you only need to look to make sure it’s safe. Don’t rely on the mirror though, they’re pretty small

Finally got my ipad updated over night, I like it. Prefer the looks of the old one, but functionality is now about on a par with android. I’d say it’s even good enough to make me switch to an iPhone, how much are they?

    What!?

    Never mind.

I saw a vibrator in the gutter on my commute once, I wouldn’t say found, I decided against keeping it. It was at a set of quite busy traffic lights, puzzling.

you’re clearly not thinking outside the box…

hire a roof box and put all the family guff in that, bike in the car.

Surely there you’re thinking inside the box :?

All main roads are set up for trucks and things, the only time you’ll struggle with height restrictions is car parks and that. For driving all that way I’d rather go with the security of a proper rack rather than bodging a box/bag on the top to be honest. Stick a post it to your steering wheel or something just in case you forget when you come to park.

Dalbeattie is on next year’s family holiday trip ooop north. I’ve been looking at a few youtube vids of the slab and other features, I’ll have to make mind up at top I think, I don’t think I’d have any problem riding it, but I’ll be on my own so I’ll have to see, looks easy enough though.

Went to Kirroughtree this summer and bottled the chute for the same reasons as others. Not that hard to ride, but I was there at 7 oclock on a weekday morning, no other cars at the car park and didn’t see another rider all day. If something freaky had happened god know how long it would have been before someone found me. No phone signal either.

I have a feature, it was lots cheaper than the urge. I’ve got no experience with the Urge, sorry

Just watching the WSBK on the big TV in the lounge now, can’t see the cameras they’re using for the the onboard shots, probably smaller than the F60 and I don’t think the quality is as good as that demo.

Also, as an aside, just because the case is is used by two different manufacturers, it doesn’t mean the camera is, my Rollei is identical to the Polaroid X70 (I think) but the Rollei has a longer battery life and a wider FOV.

Nilox sponsor the worldsuperbikes, so I wouldn’t have thought they just sold rebadged cameras, but I don’t know what else they do. Bit of an odd company, I assume they’re Italian? I wonder if they do anything else just for the continental market?

Normally about 5-6gb a month, but now I’m on unlimited I do take the piss a bit. Downloading TV shows internet radio and streaming stuff etc. I’m on the train for two hours a day so it gets some hammer.

We used terry squares with the eldest, they were fine until he got too big for them so we bought some shaped ones.

We just used to prefold the squares every night and used nappy nippers instead of pins, because they’re loads easier. Use flushable paper liners to cut down on the amount of shite you’ve got sitting in the bucket.

We switched to disposables when the eldest was about 2 and the youngest had come along. Don’t seem to work as well with girls, the poop goes where you don’t want it to be :?

You could mash something like this together for about £15, helmet would be trickier with a phone I think

I tried it breifly. Its definitelty doable, but I’m not much of a bodger. I tried my old Galaxy s2 in a timbuk2 mp3 pouch on a HR strap, worked to a point but I wouldn’t have trusted out on the trail.

I was looking the other day at smartphone tripod adaptors, a 7dayshop chest mount (or gopro one and adapter) and a decent case, but when you add it all up you’re knocking on £60-70 when you can get a chinese cam off ebay for £50, seems a bit pointless. There’s bar mounts cheap enough on ebay, but handle bar footage normally looks crap, decent last resort I suppose.

I swing back and forth every few months. I do enjoy riding on the road, but now I’ve got kids I do worry about them being fatherless so I try to avoid any major risks, I used to commute into brum daily, but I had a vew near misses on the chester road, mainly caused by traffic calming measures and it did worry me that I’d get unlucky one day.

These days I stick to early mornings at the weekend, and minor roads as much as possible. I don’t have any regular MTB riding buddies (they’re all very much irregular!) though, so it’s hard to get motivated over the winter.

Goose down duvet for us. Never comes off, doesn’t get too hot, always warm enough. Love it.

Whenever we go on holiday they have the flimsiest man made fibre duvets thin as a blanket but hot sweaty and urgh.

The Sony one was used for the on bike stuff at the IOM TT this year, only found this out recently but the footage looked fantastic. If I had the cash it would be between the Sony and Nilox probably, don’t think I could justify a Gopro or Garmin when my bike is such a heap.

As it is I’ve just got a Rollei Youngstar (same as some of the cheap chinese ones on ebay but with a 2yr warranty) for £30, I think the price has gone up now though.

Don’t know how they’d be on a track, not being its primary purpose, but I think the Toyota GT86/Subaru BRZ come in at about £25000, and they get decent write ups.

I read a review once that said the boot was the exact size of 4 wheels and a trolley jack and was designed that way. I reckon it would be an awesome track car. Won’t be the fastes though if that bothers you.
Have you seen the elk test video? Ace.

I’ve always wanted a caterham though, since I was at school.

If they’re so good why are you suing them? Boom! Thankyou, I’m here all week, try the veal etc etc.

I prefer early morning rides on the road, less likely to get egged. I go out about 6-6:30 most weekends in in the winter all weathers. My first spill off my current road bike was on an untreated road over the chase. No ice anywhere and it was raining, but we turned off the main road and when we got to the first corner both wheels disappeared from under me. When I got up it turned out the whole road was sheet ice all the way across and all the way along. Had to walk back to the main road, couldn’t get back on without the bike going sideways.

If the 5c had been £250 then I’d have been all over it. iOS 7 looks like its solving the problems that I had when I had a 4 for a bit. But I’m not paying that. No way hose. I’ll get an S4 mini or something instead when I need a new phone/get one free

I might have to give this trail running lark a go. I don’t have a fat lot of time for MTB in the winter, takes to long to get a loop in before work in the dark. Might get a torch on me bonce and go for it.

Tackeroo campsite on the route for the dog so you can start/finish there to save paying for parking at the trail head.

Not been to anywhere else on the list

Edit, just looked on there website, they close for the season a week on monday. Shame.

Edit v2 – This is rideable.

Otehrwise I’ve seen campers park on the carparks just off the main roads over the chase in the winter, not sure I’d fancy that much though. Too many chavs.

You can get an airprint printer for less than £100, we did and it’s great, use it on the network so works with ipads, our android phones via the HP app, the laptop and the desktop computer. Mint.

    Edit:

This is ours, £49 fine for printing off letters vouchers and forms, haven’t tried printing any photos but I think it’d be good enough with decent paper.
