I’ve found shimano mounts don’t clear the back side of hope callipers though.

Not sure about tech 4’s, but I’ve been using shimano adapters with tech3 e4’s for years with no problems whatsoever

On the other hand, does anyone find they make local trails a bit dull?

They definitely can, but can also make trails that would be dull on a normal mtb a lot more fun. My ebike is heavy (over26kg) but it makes techy climbs that I wouldn’t even think about on an mtb great fun, I now regularly ride local stuff that I’d never bothered with before I bought it

Went back to a medium Hightower from a large Jeffsy and prefer it in every way, I’m around 5’8 so in between sizes with most brands these days. The Hightower is more fun on steep/twisty/techy trails, possibly a bit slower when going flat out in a straight line but no regrets

I find them crap for trail centre flat stuff as you tend to be faster than the motor assist and you notice the weight.

But they’re great down steeper stuff, dh tracks etc.

^^^^^Pretty much sums my thoughts up
Also great for getting a ride in when you haven’t got much spare time, whack it on turbo and go flat out for an hour, surprisingly hard work and I end up aching in places I never have on a normal mtb

people aren’t significantly faster on modern bikes than they are on older ones.

I’m not looking for an argument here but personally I’m a lot faster up and down (and 15yrs older) on my Hightower than I was on the Cannondale Prophet I had around 2008. As for op’s original question I’d have to say

Get rid – honestly not worth throwing money at

    Or

    Convert it for gravel

Angleset will def help make the thing less twitchy, but so will wider bars and longer stems

A longer stem and wider bars will not improve handling one bit, especially on a short reach 2008 frame

It’s about what you spend versus income pothead.

The point I was trying to make is that unlimited spending on transfers is not a guarantee of success on the pitch, as Man Utd have proven since Ferguson retired. The current rules have helped the teams that already high commercial incomes to contine inflating transfer fees and wages, and therefore made it harder for others to compete

My issue with this argument is that if City, Newcastle and maybe Chelsea had unlimited spending then every other club in the league would have 0 chance as they’d never be able to match them.

I could be wrong here but have Man Utd not outspent City and Chelsea since FFP rules were introduced? Unlimited spending is only going to produce trophies if the money is spent well, there’s no guarantee of success. Newcastle are often called the ‘richest club in the world’ these days but they aren’t, they have the richest owners in football but Premier League rules have stopped them doing anything remotely close to what Chelsea and City did years ago

. I also wonder if they didn’t (unfairly) suffer from a part of their demographic of buyers having become older and gradually migrating to other brands or having stopped riding altogether

More likely getting older and buying a decent spec ebike for the same pice as a similar specced mtb. Definitely see less than I used to on the trails these days, still have a crush but rarely use it and wouldn’t be looking at them now, it will be a shame if they fold tho

The stats you guys are giving arn’t a million miles away from what I’d guess a full fat ebike has to offer

A mate of mine has the Rise (carbon but not sure which model it is) with the range extender, I have a Whyte E-160 with the 750wh battery. The range extender combined with the weight difference means we can cover more or less the same distance/elevation, I’m just a bit faster up the hills on mine. He had given up mtb’s a few years ago and had gone road/gravel only but is absolutely loving the Rise so far

surely the point being that a combo of both is a good thing & for that reason UK shouldn’t go cashless.

This pretty much sums it up, anyone that wants to stop using cash now is free to do so as it stands, seems some people want to ban other’s from using cash because they personally don’t want to. Businesses should ( and do) have the option of whether they accept cash or not and we are all free to choose where and how to spend our money. Choice is the answer, not getting rid of cash altogether

No, I don’t always use cash but I do always carry it and I refuse to give a single penny to any business that will not accept cash

Please feel free to correct me if you have examples of ebike manufacturers (apart from Santa Cruz, who do so this) putting time or money into trail building or advocacy

What’s that jagged hole in this pic

Probably to allow hot air/gas to escape when the frame is being welded during manufacturing. If you weld an alloy tube at both ends without a vent hole the last bit of seam can blow through when the hot gas inside has nowhere else to go. It does look rough to say the least tho

I have a van now so no longer use a rack, but having done so for many years I’d advise cleaning any bikes that have been on a towbar rack during the winter thoroughly when you get home. The saltwater sprayed up behind a car at speed will get into everywhere you don’t want it to and will cause corrosion and wear out components way faster than usual

My Jeffsy is pressfit, had to replace the BB twice, but it’s PF30 which really is a stupid idea.

Only pf bb I’ve had was on a carbon Jeffsy (pf30), went through 2 bb’s in less than 5 months (driveside bearing completely seized both times) and was going to swap the e thirteen cranks for Shimano. I bought another frame in the end, not because of the bb but I wouldn’t touch another bb30 mtb with a bargepole

Do any ebikers accept that using a motorised bike is generally less beneficial to your health and fitness?

It could easily be less beneficial but that will depend entirely on how the ebike is being used. I still ride an mtb as well as an ebike, after 6 months of riding both I can say I almost always end up equally as tired having ridden the ebike as I do on the mtb, usually having done at least double the distance and elevation in a similar time while also doing steep techy climbs that wouldn’t be possible on an mtb. Descending at speed on a 26kg ebike definitely gives the upper body and core more of a workout than the mtb does, so in some ways I’m possibly fitter/stronger than before I bought it. I don’t find climbing on the mtb any harder than it used to be, although I ride for fun more than fitness most of the time

My main thing is climbing. I’ve never done any aid climbing because the whole point for me is to get to the top and back using your own strength and skill. Using an ebike would feel like aid climbing to me so I’m just not interested for the same reason.

I can and have done climbs on the ebike that wouldn’t be possible on a proper mtb, really steep techy stuff that requires a lot of effort to ride. Climbing has never been something I really enjoyed on the mtb but the ebike has opened up a whole load of stuff around my local trails that I wouldn’t/couldn’t have done otherwise, and I generally get home equally as tired as I did before I bought it (I still have a proper mtb and use it regularly)

The best thing about it? All the Colorado Supreme court judges are Republican appointments. and they referred to a judgement by Neil Gorsuch (also a Republican) in their ruling.

They were all Democrat appointed judges

I’d settle for some indoor dirt jumps and we can’t even get that.

Pretty sure Revolution bike park are planning to build indoor dirt jumps in the near future

do people on here agree that the polarisation is a thing and if so, why has it happened

One of the founders of Google stated in an interview years ago that the best way to keep people online (and therefore increase their profits) was through conflict/arguments, a lot of people make a LOT of money by promoting controversy and division online

Apparently “they always do the same route at this time” she says her examiner told her..

I had exactly the same when going in for my test (a long time ago), he was right and I passed with 2 minor faults

I didn’t think that the Reese James challenge on Gordon was worth a 2nd yellow,

Personally I didn’t think the challenge by Trippier that led to Sterlings free kick was a foul but he was booked for it

A mate had an Ohlins fork and coil setup on a Santa Cruz Nomad a few years ago, he’s a fast rider and said they were very good IF setup well and you ride hard and fast, not as good as Fox/Rockshox if you don’t go flat out all of the time. He hasn’t used Ohlins since he sold that bike

The fact that the ref booked three Toon players for dissent after the Havertz lunge was refreshing.

Havertz and Bruno were very lucky to stay on the pitch, they all know the rules on harassing the ref tho so I wasn’t surprised they were booked, but why were none of the Arsenal players, who also chased and surrounded the ref after the VAR decision, not booked for dissent?
Arteta also said something along the lines of ‘mistakes do happen and we should all try to support the ref/VAR as much as we can’ after Luis Diaz had the goal disallowed against Spurs recently

I know three lads who’ve had the upper jockey wheel of a sram mech fail in the last month, all three had the bearing and bolt still in the cage but plastic wheel had literally disintegrated, 1 normal GX, 1 AXS GX and 1 X01 mech. I’m just about to replace the wheels on an AXS GX mech on my ebike (with Hope alloy) before they get the chance to do the same

I always thought the chassis was the same between Rev and Pike? The Rev was just a cheaper version with MoCo where the Pike had the Charger?

Pretty sure thats right, older Revs were 32’s but changed to 35’s a few years ago

I’ve just done a week in Madeira and I’d 110% recommend riding there, trails were off the scale but I wouldn’t fancy sleeping in a tent on the beach after a long days riding, especially if it rained which it did a fair bit by the look of the Instagram vids I saw of the last Trans Madeira

5 months old you wouldn’t even have to prove it. It would be down to the shop with the sale of goods act on your side

Online only company that had no actual shop to take it back to and insistedit was impact damage, it had to go back to Germany and everything was done by email, never again

I had a 5 month old carbon frame from a well known online retailer crack on the downtube, under a plastc downtube guard that wasn’t damaged at all. The manufacturer wouldn’t warranty it and offered a new front triangle (no mention of what colour it would be) for €1200. They got told where to go and I got it repaired for around £300, after that experience I wouldn’t be bothered at all if it was a different colour as long as I wasn’t paying for it

As above, white logo on every new bike I’ve had with Maxxis tyres.
I’ve got a Hightower and a Whyte E-160, both with Assegai and DHR2 tyres. The Ebike came with both white logo’s but an exo plus front when I had a new DD Assegai with yellow logo, I’ve now got yellow/white logo’s on both bikes as it makes more sense to put the DD on the front of the ebike and the lighter version on the Hightower, it really doesn’t matter what colour they are. Before this I’d been using a Magic Mary/DHR2 combo for a good few years but I’m more concerned with how a bike rides than how it looks

I think the garabuk site suggests that >46t on Shimano 11 speed needs their modified cage.

I’m running a 9-46t e thirteen cassette with an 11 spd xtr mech and it works perfectly on a 30t chainring, smaller chainring is the way to go in this case

I was wondering though if you could fix the chain old school style by pushing the pin out of a link so it was still in the outer plate and then pushing it back in place

I did exactly this a few weeks ago 4 a lad on an ebike I’d bumped into whilst out riding, he had no tools with him at all but hopefully he got back 2 his van
