    Horas Rant

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to suggest that everyone should give money to charity, just saying that if you are of the opinion that all they do is spend it on drugs etc. but still care, you should give to charity.

You are correct however, that you are free to be as callous as you wish. 😉

Magura do some simple but high quality forks. Some can be tricky to set up though, others less so.

Complicated issue. If you don’t give money to beggars, then IMO you should give some money to a homeless charity once in a while.

If you can find a squirrel pelt, whole, you can wrap this around your chainstay and sew up the tummy. It looks really cool, but the tail can get caught in the drivetrain sometimes. I put up with this because of the looks however.

Take a dump, its a known procedure familiar to all, is free and as long as there is plenty of paper, no further consequences.

Until you mentioned this I had never thought of doing it. No wonder I’ve been putting on weight.

Maybe a bit middle class, but you could do worse than stacking shelves at Waitrose. They give you discount off Waitrose and John Lewis (though not sure if you have to be 18), and if you decide to go to university (and they like you) they may well employ you in the holidays too, if you need it. And you get a bonus at christmas (again, check age requirement).

Sorry to keep dragging this up, but another question…

When fitting the razor and assembling there is some leeway as to how tightly the shaft is screwed in, and this affects the blade angle. Should it be screwed in all the way, or should it be left with some room to spare?

I used Derbys as they came with the razor. I read up on blades but no two opinions seemed to be the same. I have justed ordered 10 each of Feather and Israeli, although the Derbys seem ‘fine’ to me so far.

Update: First shave last night. No more cuts than using a disposable/multi-blade razor. I was a bit cack though, took me a little while to get the technique, and will probably take me a bit longer to get the confidence/technique for the jawline.

    What I noticed:

-Stubble softness and lubrication is much more critical than for disposable razors. No half measures or you will get rash.

-Bejeesus! It’s possible to get seriously smooth skin, smoother than any previous razor I have used.

-You do seem to need good technique to get a good shave, but it doesn’t seem too hard to learn (so far)

In summary: I am impressed, and it sits well with my self-imposed neo-luddite persona. I didn’t even know you could still buy razors like this, why wasn’t I told before?!

Er, clear as mud then! It would be good to meet some people from the area, as we haven’t lived here that long, but it seems like a lot of money for the privilege, at a time when money is about to become more of an issue.

Thank you all for your replies though, very useful.

Does it look like one too though?

Razor arrived today, but haven’t had time to pick up a styptic pencil. To shave or not to shave…

Don’t some pro’s ride clipless and some use flats? I think that’s your answer…

Why don’t you just stay home, buy a hammer and repeatedly hit your legs with it? It’s a lot cheaper.

My best method, not failed yet:

-Place drive side crank at three o’clock. (i.e. facing forward)
-Place pedal spanner on crank, also facing at three o’clock
-Place foot on pedal, hold spanner in hand
-Push down with foot whilst lifting up on spanner
    et voila.

EDIT: You should be able to do this with an allen key too? Also, spray some GT85 into the threads from both sides, it can help.

What? He changed the freakin’ story!

Name me one film-of-the-book that doesn’t?

    (ok, apart from Watchmen)

The main event in the ending of Watchmen was different!

IMO it’s a tough job, full of not particularly pleasant experiences. I imagine it takes a certain amount of mental toughness to be the first at a scene of a natural death, or to be spat at and insulted for doing your job. I imagine many people wouldn’t be able to deal with that.

Or alternatively, give him a piece of wood with a rusty nail in and a handful of mud, and explain to him at length that that was all you had ‘in your day’, and you had to ‘make your own entertainment’. That always goes down well.

Go for a bike ride round the outside of Marwell Zoo. If you are lucky you might see a wallaby for free.

Hmmm… you can buy a butterfly for £20 or a standard one for £20 though.

Oh, I think I’m entering a new world of retail confusion and pain.

Some razors seem to ‘flip open’ at the top, and some you have to unscrew. Any reason to buy one over the other?

I think i’ll probably spend about £20-25 on the razor. That Parker one on the previous page looked alright. Any advice welcomed.

That sample pack looks good too.

Thanks! I used a shaving soap once before, from Evelyn & Crabtree, and found it quite harsh on my skin. I hope there are better ones out there!

I will probably take the plunge sooner or later. I also shave intermittently, and clogging is a real problem.

Interested in this, couple of Q’s.

    1. Do you have to use shaving soap if you use a ‘proper’ razor? Is there any reason why you can’t use foam or oil if you are in a hurry?
    2. What is the technique, is there a difference?

As for whether or not people should take small children on holiday: absolutely. Even a 4mth old kid will enjoy having his or her parents to themselves, without washing up / work / whatever getting in the way.

And you need to be in a different country to do this?

Ok, lets clear this up once and for all…

Parents have the right to go on uneccesary holidays with their young children because, although they farted the screaming thing out in the first place, they don’t want the inconvenience of having to change their lifestyle, and dont give a monkeys about upsetting others.

Passengers on planes with screaming children on have the right to complain about said children, even if it doesn’t make a blind bit of difference and makes them a S.Y.N.T.

There, a synopsis everyone can be happy with, surely…. 😉

But complaining about babies crying is ‘allowed’, isn’t it?
