A ‘pee strip’ sounds very specialist to me. Does it involve plastic sheeting and nipple tassles?

A lot of teachers (I accept it’s not all of them) are far too happy just to go through the motions and pick up the pay cheque every month

They have to do what the government asks, i.e. teach the national curriculum etc, hit their exam targets, or else they get the sack. Many (most?) teachers dislike the current system. Any reforms need to come from the top-down.

I would be more than happy to devote the rest of my life to works of charity if I had several million in the bank 😉

Useful already, thanks! There seems to be an awful lot of marketing regarding baby products and without prior experience it is difficult to know what works.

If you are happy with your shave then no need to change! Just lift up that bonnet and let the bee out.

    Found this on the website:

The Fixed Term Employees (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2002 set out that employees have the right to have their contracts automatically converted to open-ended ones after four years (and provided your contract has already been renewed at least once) unless there is an objective justification for continued employment on a fixed term basis.

    Still a bit vague.

Hey, no need to get touchy! It’s just I read the reviews on the (independent) razor vendors sites, and a posteriori realised they may have been vetted. Plenty of evidence for shonky QC/tolerance for the one I bought:

    http://www.theshavingroom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=571

    http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5258

Which contrasts with what I found when researching the EJ razors, which are generally regarded to be amongst the highest quality.

The theory goes that multiple blade razors work on a lift-and cut mechanism. Each blade lifts the hair slightly, and the subsequent blade cuts its a little closer. For some people, not all, this can cause ingrown hairs and irritation. This is more of a problem if you have thick and/or wiry hair. This problem is vastly reduced with a DE.

Also, the propellants used in aerosol type foams/creams are not good for your skin (drying and, some say, toxic).

The other main benefit (for me) is that multiple blade razors clog if you try to shave more than a couple of days growth – this is not a problem with DE razors.

The bottom line is, if you are happy with your shave and your skin feels good then there’s no need to change.

FWIW I think that some of the benefits from using DE razors are they improve your technique – i’m sure if I went back to a cartridge I would get a better shave than I did before.

Strange, customer reviews say different. I guess like everything you’ll get good ‘uns and bad ‘uns.

Would they be customer reviews on the vendors website?

    This thread disturbs me.

Oh, one useful thing about organic food is that organic ‘made’ food, i.e. not raw ingredients, often tastes quite different because it prohibits the use of certain chemicals etc.

Sometimes this can be good, and I assume sometimes less good. Heinz organic ketchup tastes much better than the non-organic one IMO, as do most organic houmous.

Different issue to organic veg though.

Oh, and at the risk of being a fanboy, EJ razors have a really good rep for QC, plus are made in Sheffield (or at least partly). Mine was only £15ish from Amazon.

Now you’ve had to resort to insults, I no longer need to consider anything you have to say. ‘Night night.

I’m not 100% on the terminology, but is this a flounce?

For the record, don’t buy a Parker.

    Why not?

I bought one, and the QC was terrible. The blade gap was not constant along its length, and one side of the razor was more exposed than the other. Returned it for a replacement, it was better but not perfect, so I sold it.

Bought an Edwin Jagger 89 instead, it’s is about the same price and much better QC/finishing.

If you get a ‘good’ parker they’re fine, but if you get a ‘bad’ parker its a PITA, and google suggests that for some models it’s not uncommon.

    a) It’s a single, small study.
    b) Many people buy organic food for environmental reasons, not personal health

It caused pollution being mined, caused pollution being transported and turned into said battery, and will cause pollution (or a lot of energy to be expended to minimise that pollution) when it needs disposal

Whereas oil mining and refining doesn’t cause pollution and petrol doesn’t require transportation.

What I don’t fully understand is where all the pressure to try and be wealthy, have a flash new car etc. comes from. I mean, most of us are pretty lucky in this day and age, we take for granted that food, running water, acommodation, medical care etc is well within everybodies reach. Why should anyone feel bad if they dont have/want the latest tech gadget, car the most expensive clothes etc?

Some people suggest that since dogs are continually being put down because no-one wants them, purposefully breeding more is morally dubious. Your decision ultimately.

P.S It’s not reheating rice that causes toxins to grow, its storing cooked rice improperly.
