I sometimes wonder if cadence affects drivetrain wear rate.

Incidentally, do you also question people with nice cars that dont put them in their garages at night?

That’s not a good comparison. How about:

Incidentally, do you also question people with nice cars that keep them in their garages most of the time, but take them out onto the drive whenever lots of people are nearby to see it?

… or you could just buy a PG-980 which weighs the same and costs £10 less.

the same people that go into shops/pubs/caffs/etc and say, ‘Can I GET a…’ instead of ‘Can I HAVE….’.

What sort of people go into shops/pubs/caffs/etc and say ‘May I have…’ then? 😉

Isn’t an iPhone just a little portable computer that you can make phone calls on, and isn’t an ‘app’ just another name for a computer program? I’m not sure I understand all the fuss!

    I use PCs because i’m…

    a) computer literate
    b) a cheapskate
    c) a gamer
    d) an anti-snob

I also like the fact that if I want to upgrade my processor, GPU or memory then I can.

What’s goal seek? Is it some kind of iterative solution finder?

Most likely you should replace it with what you’ve got. 32 is about 50g lighter than 34 if that makes any difference to you. On a triple i’d go 28 or 32 personally. On a double or single ring i’d go 34.

You didn’t thank anyone for their comments on this thread. Hypocrite.

    based on what brant said:

456 SS with 100mm fork is 69.5 deg
inbred with 100mm fork is 70.0 deg

Surely based on what brant said there should be a 2deg difference, not a half deg difference? Or am I missing something…

Bit old/OT, but is MW2 any good on the PC? I seem to remember people moaning about something to do with servers.

Different people in different opinions on things shocker.

If you want a tyre with a similar grip, compound and performance to a high-roller I would suggest a high-roller. 😕

You’d have thought that they would notice this when reviewing the bike on BR.

I think the video makes the terrain look easier than it is – that straight descent is probably quite heavily rutted, which is pretty scary at speed on a rigid.

As for the clothing, don’t forget that in ’92 people were wearing cycle shorts as casual clothing 😯

I found washing up liquid to be more hastle than it’s worth, especially with wire beads. Haven’t needed it with any Maxxis folder I’ve set up tubeless so far.

    Count yourself lucky then!

Ideal tool is needle-nosed pliers, or else you can bodge it off with something else. If you do that, don’t be surprised if it breaks!

Stan’s rim strips let you unscrew the middle bit of the valve, leaving a hole big enough to syringe sealant into.

    1. Leave tyre inflated with tube in overnight
    2. Remove valve cores for initial inflation (better airflow)
    3. Use washing up liquid solution for initial inflation, and if you have any trouble ‘getting it up’, then use neat washing up liquid
    4. Compress the tyre around the valve lightly when inflating, as this is where air most often escapes from

Not ridden one, but I get the impression a Blue Pig is a fairly different ride to a 456. A bit like a 456 in steroids, in that it’s designed for steep and technical terrain, but is maybe less into flat/XCing. May influnce your decision?

I wasn’t aware that the Pig was supposed to be more compliant though. Tyres/tyre pressure/seatpost are obvious points to look at too.

If you just chuck a Maxxpro on the back you will get a good compromise of grip and wear. Then when your front wears out you can replace it with the other 42a.

Do you need a bashring, i.e. did you have a problem with hitting your 44t ring on stuff? Because a 36 will be significantly smaller, so you might not need one.

Interesting thread – we’re thinking about getting a Wii for the kids this Xmas but I’m worried it’ll end up being in the cupboard 99% of the time.

Stop locking your kids in the cupboard then.

I do standing as a starting point. Then you have to go and ride and decide whether it was too stiff or not. Sometimes is good to go for a ride with your shock pump for the express purpose of setting up your forks.

I sometimes get on the bike and roll down the road a bit, out of the saddle, to see where the sag mark is. It’s easier than leaning against a wall or something like that. Then I just go by visual inspection and gut feeling.

Aye, the BikeRadar review puts it at 2.67Kg 😯

Not sure what size though, presumably 18″

    poppa

    the tt is shorter already.

The ETT length is shorter by about 5mm, which (I think) is due to the geometry being quoted for a 120mm fork for the 456 but a 100mm for the Inbred. I think the ‘real’ TT length is the same though 😕

It’s probably worth mentioning that the current tendency toward short stems goes hand-in-hand with wide bars. You probably don’t want to use a short stem in conjunction with narrow bars, which would probably feel very twitchy, or a long stem in conjunction with wide bars, which probably wouldn’t go round corners at all.

I think it really depends on what you are planning to do on it.

If you are using it as a ‘play bike’ – i.e. not doing long distances/XC rides – then 16″ might be a good idea. If you will be using it for XC/pedalling long distances then 18″ might be more sensible (as might a standard 456 ‘cos they’re lighter).
