FWIW I had a ‘moderately priced’ helmet that was lighter than my mates expensive one.

The reason is that my cheap helmet had bare polystyrene (or whatever it is), whilst my mates more expensive one had a harshell type coat to make it look nice, which unfortunately made it heavier.

So there you go. Now you know. Whoop.

i’m settled on a 32 tho maybe a 30 would help on steep climbs

Bear in mind that for standard rings/chainsets you can’t put a 30t on the middle, minimum is 32t.

Keep the 34t. Get an 11-36 cassette, and if you find you need to tweak your gears higher/lower, get a 32 or 36t.

I am using 11-32 with a 32 and like it. If I could choose any combination it would probably be 11-36 with a 34t.

I hadn’t thought of that, you’re right. I did some research. There are places, a bit like shops, where I can pay a man to cut my hair!!! Why didn’t I think of this before?!!

    😐

I missed it. I was watching the national paint drying championships on Five

No need to carp on like that.

WTF BS is “working the fork”? please explain what you mean?

As far as I can tell, working the fork means biasing your weight forwards so that when you hit something the fork takes the brunt of the impact, whilst the back end ‘skips’ more.

Best tried with caution though. If you overdo it you end up being a lot more likely to go over the bars. Which is where the slack head angle thing comes in.

I think you need a bit of skill to do it properly IMO, probably best off weighting the fork for smaller roughness and unweighting/hopping over the big stuff where possible.

Yes, now can Brant please lob 5deg off the seat angle as well on his bikes so that they work on talas/lockdown forks? You know theres something wrong when its easier to climb with 150mm of bob tastic marzocchis up front than it is with them locked down resulting in a seat angle steep enough to make a TTer wince.

It thought it was designed precisely so that you CAN climb on it with a big fork. If you are desperate to use your TALAS you can always get a different frame though 😉

Maybe On-One will be able to tell you if it’s a generic colour?

Otherwise… it’s a freakin’ inbred. Ride it till it breaks!

Hahahahahaahahahaahahahaahahaahahahaahahahaha, thats a good one! Thats so wrong I’m not even going to try and explain.

The correct fore/aft position for the saddle is when the crank arm is horizontal the bony protrusion below the knee is vertically above the pedal axle.

I thought this was just a guideline with little physiological reasoning.

Maybe if you can’t afford both you couuld build up a hardtail without the wheels and saddle, and swap those bits between bikes. If you bought a cheap but fun frame, like an On-One, you could try it out for ‘cheap’,

Er, might be best not to use a tyre with a snapped bead. At all. Kind of important.

Hmm ok, I will try on a couple more different brands – my last was a Met and fitted well. Do Giro/Bell fit a different head shape to Met?

It’s a pain that ‘sized’ helmets seem to be more expensive however 😕

    Get both.

For a given fork length the head angle is the same on both frames.

I am now imagining ‘Pedal Bob’ as a cartoon anthropomorphism of his namesake, a ‘Hamburglar’ type character. He is a bit overweight and watches Jeremy Kyle.

I think she had a kid. Your weight tends to go up and down when that happens. Pop star in ‘not rake-thin’ shocker? I can live with that.

Definitely stick to the 48 hour rule, highly contagious! And I would advise cleaning/disinfecting door handles, taps etc. too once you start feeling better…

    Horrible, isn’t it?

Surely it makes a difference that people dont tend to go swimming/surfing/days out in close proximity to sewage outlets.

Flinging turds in the sea at beauty spots has got to increase the chances of a human/poo encounter.

Bought a three pack… Rayman Rabbids 1,2 and TV party for £13. Bargain tastic.

P.S there is no way I am buying a dancing game for my wife and risking being forced into playing it under the pretence of ‘Christmas cheer’.

Just saw someone on a ‘social newtwork’ site post: ‘If you can’t afford university then don’t go… don’t expect the taxpayer to foot the bill’

    😯

I’m not necessarily saying that higher education should be 100% free, but what is this, the 19th century? Why not extend this attitude to healthcare? Should A-levels be free? Not everyone takes them…

Personally I would have been more in favour of reducing total admissions, trying somehow to reduce the number of trivial/dubious courses and making the courses shorter and more intensive, but not increasing fees as significantly…

Unfortunately some of the students demonstrating against fee rises aren’t helping their cause.
