I've been using Mud Xs on my 09 Fuel Ex8 in the dark peak for the last two winters and they are run tubeless on Mavic Cross trails. They have been excellent and good to shed the filthy stuff.

Really Edukator. Our national defence should be a Tactical nuclear strike? Sounds like a trip back to the Cold war to me. Wise up.

Hi Solarider. I have worn a set of Force Field body armour for the last year and a half. I was previously self employed and having had a few really bad falls and being hospitalised and unpaid it was time for some action. The Force field gear is an expensive outlay initially but it is worth the money and the padding/armour can be changed to suit the conditions and you don't know your wearing it. It's great in the winter for the extra warmth it provides and in the summer i just wear the shirt and a set of 661 Evo knee pads. i paid about £90.00 for the pants and £125.00 for the shirt which sounds expensive but i have worn it for ski-ing, snowboarding and kite surfing so it's been worth the money. check it out.

It's quite obvious really! TJ for Prime Minister. You'd get my vote mate!
Unfortunately you are very wrong about the NHS. It is a complete joke and all the decent Doctors, nurses and midwifes have emigrated to Australia. The labour government has spent more on talentless management than frontline healthcare. The conservatives needed to improve, but they would not have put the country in it's present position if they had won the previous general elections. (IMO)

Hi ourmaninthenorth! I,ve got a two year old 1.8L Zetec climate with sports pack that i bought tax free in December 07.(Only £10,000!!) It's got 16000 miles on it now and i've not had any problems with it so far ( the wife uses it for the work commute daily) It's a great car to drive, loads of boot space, very responsive and a real giggle to take out for the occasional thrash. The only down side is that we only get 300 miles on a full tank (it only averages 29mpg)and the insurance is relatively cheap. Hope this helps.PS – i drive a BMW 3 series but i prefer the Focus for short trips. The Focus is a bit noisy on the Motorway,

However, having had my ass whipped by the SSs i stand corrected. the guys riding these strange machines were unbelieveably fit and strong and passed me on every hill and i thought i was quite fit!!

Hi, i finally gave my remote I900 a clean at the weekend. If the shaft has any scratches or gouges on it, they should be sanded out using minimum of 120 emery paper. remove the Knurled locking collar and gently prise the rubber seal away from it. This is where the maority of the dirt likes to hide.Spray the shaft with plenty of degreaser and cycle the shaft up and down (leave the saddle on at this stage) 10 to 15 times trying to get the degreaser right down in to the workings. remove the entire assembly from the bike making sure the shaft is fully extended. remove the locknut from the base of the shaft (hopefully the red retaining base unit will come with it. if not use a small screwdriver and a light hammer on the small holes to unscrew it. fill the shaft with degreaser. wash it all out and dry off with kitchen roll. Find a surface that you can use to put the edge of the bottom of the shaft on (corner of the kitchen table works well!!). put pressure on the saddle, press the release catch in and fully compress the shaft. this pushes the small shaft out of the base of the main shaft. now put as much teflon grease as you can lay your hands on around the small shaft and inside the base of the large shaft. Press the release catch and fully extend the main shaft.refit knurled locking ring on top shaft. replace the red retaining base unit and locking nut back on. clean off excess grease. place post back on frame. compress and extend a few times. remove again and clean off excess grease from the base. place back in frame. Replace the remote cable for a super smooth action. job done.

I find it depends on the wheel rim size which affects the air volume. i use to run Mud x’s at 30 PSI on a set of Bonty Rythm comps with no problems. However when i swapped the same tyre to a new set of Mavic cross trails i set them up to 35 psi and, admittedly, they did feel a lot softer with much more surface contact and i had a pinch flat first time out. I set them up to 45 psi for the next ride and i haven’t had any problems since. (i weigh 11′ 4) So, in conclusion, different rim sizes require different air presssure for each individual rider.

I own a 09 trek Fuel EX8 which i have had since Aug 08. it is a fantastic XC ride with a truly bottomless suspension and climbs like a rat up a drain pipe. I ride it mostly in the Peak district and i wish i had seen the Remedy 8 before i had bought it. The Ex 8 is a brilliant bike but the Remedy 8 would be more tolerant of the hammering my Ex8 receives on rocky descents. Having said that i have spent nearly £1000.oo upgrading it so i should have bought the Remedy 9. “More XTR Sir??” “OOHH Yes please!!” “and would sir like an Adjustable Kindshock seat post and Fizik saddle with that?” “Why not, i’ll stick it on the flexible friend!” – Buy the Remedy 9, you’ll save yourself a fortune!

Try Royles in Wilmslow. Very experienced and friendly mechanics/staff. have used them for a couple of years now and would highly recommend them. If your near Hazel Grove, try the Bicycle Smithy on the A6. John and his staff are all dedicated riders and always manage a fast turn-around when i’ve broken something and need the bike in a hurry!

if you live near Lyme Park / Disley, i would recommend: Lyme park, follow the road to the main house and take the right hand road up the hill, follow the track down to the West gate (marked as West gate on the OS map), turn right on the country road, follow for 400 metres to the Middlewood Way, turn left towards Macclesfield follow for about 7 miles and if you are still feeling energetic, go for a trip around macclesfield Forest then back on the same route. A nice gentle route, but don’t park your car at Lyme park as they will charge you £7.00 to use the carpark!

Check out “manxmtb.org” and speak to the “Manxies” on the forum. The area around South Barrule has recently been re-developed in conjunction with the IOM forestry commission and very dedicated local riders. I haven’t had chance to go myself yet, but friends say it’s a great ride. The Island has many excellent natural trails and routes. The best thing is that with it’s relatively small size, you can get to any of them within a couple of hours. I would recommend Foxdale, Kirk Michael or Ballaugh, but may be difficult to find accommodation during the Summer.

Straight to the point here. Having been a Soldier for 23 years i am dismayed that some of you take the Armed Forces for granted. Haven’t you seen how many soldiers have died so that you have the freedom to do as you please? politicians make policy, soldiers enforce it. This was the way in the First, Second and subsequent World Wars and conflicts. Soldiers do the job because it’s exciting (sometimes) and they are proud to do it for their country. They do not do it for the money! How many of you get shot at during your normal working day? to say they understand it is part of their job is condescending. They do it for you, you ungrateful Richard heads. If the Muslims don’t like living here they should go back to Iraq. Oh, but they don’t have a social security system there that gives money away to anyone that wants it. Thats why they all live here. i was proud to have served my Country for 23 years. My family have suffered enduring hardship as i spent 6 months away from them on Countless occasions fighting wars for politicians. I didn’t see my daughter being born as i was serving in Iraq. thanks for all your support.

I bought an I900 remote post from SSC in August. It worked fine initially until the winter appeared. It doesn’t like being cold and has to be well cleaned and lubed after every ride. i have found that the best cleaning agent/lube is (Gasp, shock, horror!) 3 in 1 professional spay oil. Remove the top red collar, clean seals, spray lube around shaft, depress and release 10 times or so, wipe off gunge, job done. Mine hasn’t developed any lateral play yet. it is a real godsend and i wouldn’t ride without it now. I ride in the Peaks and it makes descents a breeze, then a quick press of the lever and i’m back to XC mode, plus it looks quite flash as well! (I’ve seen you all saying “Flash B****tard” every time i shoot past you in a gaggle putting your posts back up! My moto: if you’ve got it spend it or the Wife will !!!!!!

Biggins, i rode up the bridleway from the War memorial last sunday (well, not all of it, bit rocky/steep in places!)it has re-opened and has been resurfaced with rock/shale and is in good condition. Half of the Car park was re-opened with a few construction vehicles parked in the other half.

i use Candy Bros custom C with Shimano SPD MT 50 Shoes. You can switch the cleats for different release angles. a good shoe with a solid base is always a benefit with the Candy custom C as it allows a more even weight distribution. egg beaters can feel a bit pin pointy in my experience.

They did it free last time but it needed doing again. Took me 10 mins tonight with the c Spanner. Thanks guys!!

Go to Comet and buy a netgear wireless router for no more than £50.00. Takes ten minutes to set up. i use Talk talk and installed the New router myself into my ageing desktop. Your laptop should pick up the new router itself. Ensure you sep up WEP security on your laptop to stop piggy backing on your signal. Very easy and you don’t need to be an IT wizard.

Turbo bearings are looking like the culprit if the car is still running but lacking in acceleration. You may see traces of oil around the exhaust pipe whilst its running. check the Coolant (when it is cold!!!) to see if there is any oil contamination in it. This would indicate a cylinder head gasket failure. could be a number of things really. try and get a friend to check it out. A garage will charge you £80.00 just to tell you what is wrong. The Rover 220 is a fine motor, but it’s at that time of it’s life where it’s going to start eating cash. Buy a Saab turbo, there going for a song nowadays!

I ride in the peaks 3 times a week on my own. Take a mobile and let some one know where your going and ring them to say your alive at the end of your ride! Only joking, you’ll be fine! i have been riding around Hope/Edale/Ladybower for the last 15 months. The best advice i can give you is to take a map and check it reguarly if you don’t know the area. The majority of the routes are well signed (Bridleway)or easy to follow but it is very easy to miss a turn/junction in some areas and end up riding up a footpath. You will know when you’ve done this as the first walker you meet will wave his/her pointy sticks at you and tell you straight away you are riding on a footpath. People have been sent to Guantanamo bay for riding on footpaths in the Peak District!!! Apologise profusely and ask for directions to the nearest Bridleway. It’s a fantastic area to ride and has something for all levels of ability. have a look here for more info:http://www.peakdistrictonline.co.uk and pick up a copy of the Dark peaks.
