I got the karcher k5, full size not the compact. It didn’t work out the box so I sent it back, karcher were v good, they replaced it foc and even sent an upgrade with all the patio cleaning attachment and cleaning solution.
Someone on here said if you run the water through before and after use, it prolongs life. That, and storing in a dry garage, it’s got the extended 5 year warranty. Latter was an offer 2 years ago from karcher direct.
poolmanFree MemberI followed the cycling uk scenic route, it added about 10% on so c 100 miles. Some fab roads up in the borders. I wouldn’t do canal towpaths it would take ages and the constant giving way to pedestrians would drive me mad.
I listened to lael wilcox s pod cycling around the world. She was always stopping for food, in the desert she rented a room for the day and cycled through the night. I would deviate to pools or spas, so I could have a swim and a stretch in the steam room.
Someone on the fb lejog group had their bike nicked off the train.
poolmanFree MemberI have a similar damp patch on the chimney breast, slightly off centre. Some people say it’s rain coming in down chimney, it’s adjoins a flat roof outside.
Anyway, chap came today to service gas fire underneath. He reckoned if it was simply rain coming down chimney the fire would show signs of rust, there aren’t any. So it’s from the flat roof/ chimney breast joint.
Solution is fix the damp ingress, then repair damp patch.
poolmanFree MemberI did it in 10 days with 1 day off, so 9 days riding. Cornwall is hilly so I ditched half my stuff and mailed it home. I follow the fb page lejog and would like to do it again, I live about half way so would probably do it in 2 legs.
I d prebook a few premier inns so I could pitch up whenever I wanted, could get an early start, a few stops and some more miles that evening. In June the longer days maybe could get it down to 7 days.
For return from jog we hired a car from wick.
poolmanFree MemberI got the lifeline one after dropping my 9s commuter, I thought I d bent it back OK till I checked with the tool, I was miles out. Sort of tool that sits there with v infrequent use, but really useful to have.
poolmanFree MemberI really like the smart roadster and reckon it’s a future classic. I m sure it was high peak autos on yt who tipped it, Sterling moss had one. I don’t think I would fit in one, low mileage ones weren’t that much when I briefly looked.
poolmanFree MemberI stocked up on brasher lined trousers at millets last year, 30 quid, I see they are c 50 now. Really comfortable and not too heavy. For cycling I always layer up, I ve just gone from 1 to 2 base layers, still in shorts.
Lined trousers will be mid Nov.
1poolmanFree MemberThe above post re designing some new space is a good one. I am having an extension done and to develop some usable space above the garage isn’t that much extra. I m putting veluxes in, insulating and boarding out.
Re survey speak to agent, next buyer will have same issue.
1poolmanFree MemberI q like the sound of rain on a polycarbonate roof. My neighbour had hers tiled and insulated, apparently much better. I m planning knocking it down and making it part of the house. Shame, mines 20 years old and got q a lot of life left in it.
5poolmanFree MemberI was on the borrowdale bus recently, single track road with passing places. Guy in car coming the other way wouldn’t give way, to a bus, and was shouting at bus driver to reverse.
Standoff went on for 5 mins, eventually said angry driver reversed. Whole bus started clapping at bus driver.
poolmanFree MemberI just tether tablet to phone as a hotspot. Only issue is if I reboot phone it defaults to hotspot being off, so just turn it back on.
Shows how slow my phone is compared to tablet, will have to upgrade soon.
Deleted all banking apps on phone, put them on tablet, so if I lose phone not much to lose.
poolmanFree MemberYes as chew says you can’t just put any value on it that suits you, it has to be the true market price. The district valuer works on behalf of hmrc and if there’s tax due, the value will be scrutinised.
He wouldn’t accept our 3 agency valuations, once we paid for a RICs one, he was happy.
1poolmanFree MemberIf there’s an iht liability and you are the sole benefiary, cgt dies with the owner and you could be assented the property on death, ie, you take the property as you are being left it anyway. There’s no stamp duty in this case, depends if you want it of course.
Worst case is you sell asset, pay cgt, then die and pay iht.
I am not an ifa BTW, loads of tips on mse and probably worth a q chat with a probate specialist.
Best wishes, its a bit of a minefield, budget on 30 Oct doesn’t help as cgt is in the spotlight.
poolmanFree MemberIn spain you can offset your gym membership from your taxable income, so you get your marginal tax refunded.
I asked the guy in the recycling centre how many cyclists he got in a day, me and 1 other.
poolmanFree MemberI always ask if I can enter with a folded brompton, even put it in a trolley. The only place anyone said anything was an awful b and b.
Bit cheeky tbh just wheeling it in.
poolmanFree MemberI managed 3 months last year zero wins, max holding. Cut my losses, fixed at 6%, now back in and having a good run. Another 3 months of no wins I m out.
poolmanFree MemberThanks for m and s tip, 12 quid a kilo is worth a try.
I stocked up on lavazza red at booths last week, 10 quid a kg, but it s now 15 quid a kilo.
poolmanFree MemberWhen we had a reroof the roofer told us the membrane was waterproof. I would be concerned yours leaks and you are about to retile. Before we had the roof done I was always up there with buckets to catch drips. Problem was the wind, it blew the rain along and upwards. Patching the membrane was unsuccessful, I tried loads of times.
We paid extra for some membrane roofer recommended, it worked and well worth it.
poolmanFree MemberI rarely drive and have a car sitting on driveway, to avoid making it look abandoned I turn it round every week, ie, park in opposite direction. On a sunny day I air the inside, spray some gt85 on hinges and check for rodents under the bonnet. Pump tyres up to 40, disks are minging and need changing.
In covid it did 500 miles between mots, this year c1000 miles max.
poolmanFree MemberMeaningful money podcast, he s an ifa, had a client who cancelled his critical illness cover, got ill and tried to claim. Obviously unsuccessful, apparently client had had the policy for ages. It was deemed client had full knowledge.
The only life policy I d keep is if it were a whole of life policy written in trust, as it falls outside your estate for iht.
poolmanFree MemberTry and buy it pre auction direct from owner. It could a fab communal space, allotments, waste recycling, play area. If a 3rd party buys it speculatively for housing, he could make it into an eyesore, store building materials.
Could be a really interesting project.
1poolmanFree MemberRe mountain rescue I read that the majority of their callouts are lower leg, so slippery rocks. No mobile reception in borrowdale.
Fell pack looks lovely, can’t beat a breakfast at lingholm kitchen, served till 11.
poolmanFree MemberI ve walked segments of the borrowdale bash, you only see anyone near car parks. Weather turns pretty quickly but views down the valley are amazing.
I d prebook a day visit to lodore falls spa, 60 quid, as a treat.
Good luck, keep an eye on mountain rescue stats, they are always out, saw them yesterday.
poolmanFree MemberNeighbours as posted, that and the sun, you can’t control either. Everything else is fixable.
1poolmanFree MemberWell done, the local cycle track near me had to have a few assaults on before police would act. Cameras are now installed every 100m or so with big warning signs saying you are being recorded.
I ride it every day, the odd baddy is down there but I can spot them and just ride on by.
Terrible really, I know people still actively avoiding the track due to its history.
poolmanFree MemberBrilliant news, I have been listening to her podcasts. She s done some monster daily miles and night rode through the desert, sleeping in the day.
I too couldn’t believe she had any bad days or got bored, but as she says in interviews she feels she could carry on.
Loving all the support she got along the way.
poolmanFree MemberI ate in wilfs recently, everyone who came in and ordered asked about the parking charges and whether they would be served and finished in the free hour.
Also, passed through staveley today on the bus and the residents down by the river, I assume the nearest no restriction parking, have put cones out to stop parking.
poolmanFree MemberThe Americans are far more advanced than the uk at buying bonds and gilts, I think it’s because they have been doing it longer. My investment platform doesn’t let me buy short dated gilts online, has to be submitted as a trade, if it were like trading shares I would do it.
2poolmanFree MemberI m on an octopus fix and just below market rates. There’s a penalty of 75 gbp if you break it and go to another supplier, you can however break it and refix with octopus with no penalty. So I fixed, if a better octopus fix appears I can refix at no cost, so win win.
So far v happy with octopus, I control dd via app and just top up if not enough credit for winter. They installed a smart meter foc and the little box which measures consumption.
1poolmanFree MemberThe 110 quid scout tent is a steal, thanks.
Aldi waterproof sock day, 15 quid, loads in stock. Biggest size 9-11 but I m normally a 12 and they fit nicely, q stretchy.
poolmanFree Member100 quid on max holding, 3 months in and 6.2% annualised return, tax free of course so q happy.
poolmanFree MemberEnjoy the park, only tip I have is when the deer cull is on they lock the pedestrian gates at 8pm. I was once locked in and had to climb out over the fence. Just looked it up, 1 November start for 7 weeks.
poolmanFree MemberI used to live in kingston and ran with the stragglers, they are still going so must be doing something right. I cycled through richmond Park last month, sat up by the ballet school to admire the views, couldn’t believe how many runners and cyclists passed me, midweek evening, sunny.
For cycling clubs maybe ask in sigma sports, I used to cycle commute to central London so had no energy left for other cycling.
poolmanFree MemberJust looked up the spa spec for bulletproof wheels, ryde sputnik 36, deore t610 hub. V happy, not even a loose spoke.
1poolmanFree MemberYes spa wheels here on commuter/shopper. I m 90kg and shopping can be 25kg. Not even a loose spoke in 18 months, 3000 miles.
Spa built a wheel for my tourer 15 years ago, again, no issues at all.
Just ask for the strongest combination they recommend, it wasn’t even that much extra.
poolmanFree MemberThe only gig I have ever seen a proper fight at was oasis, at a spanish festival no less, brits drinking on an empty head, Spanish couldn’t believe it. You get thrown out having paid for a festival ticket.
poolmanFree MemberThe lakes is only packed in the town hot spots. Yesterday I walked keswick to seatoller, getting the bus back. I must have seen 2 people max on an adjacent footpath. Keswick was absolutely packed, like no space on pavement packed.
poolmanFree MemberI did the kendal to Bowness leg recently, it actually passes about 3 miles north of kendal. Didn’t see anyone outside the villages, it’s well signposted but take a map just in case.
Clare balding did it in 2014, I listened to her podcasts, think it’s a spin off from ramblings.
It was explained why they walked east to westish, think it was the sun behind.
Bit of a shock when you reach staveley and windermere, having seen no-one all day…places seem packed.
poolmanFree MemberMaybe add some straw, only a couple of quid from local horsey place, get your grass layered with straw. Turn regularly, wee in a pot and throw that on. Add kitchen waste, peelings, egg shells etc. Give it a month or so you ll have really good compost.
