Mine only creaked when they cracked (2 off them). Check the welds around the pivot and also around the stoopid underside bottle mounts.

    HI Cougar

    Any ideas?

Yeah, they are air forks. I’ve got 44 micro ti’s and run them well under the recommended air pressure. Info on what all the twiddly bits do is hard to come by….

No, seen that one. It’s an exploded diagram and oil weights/quantities that I’m after.

Interested in this one, cos just about to do the same on an old Orange Five I aquired for my daughter with the same shock. What oil to use, 20wt suspension fluid ok?

Wifes got one. Tap the top tube with your finger nail…. Yes it is thin innit!

There’s a 17″ on CRC for £1400 not bad for what was a £3200 bike!

I did it on a 4″ FS with random cheap semi-slicks bought for it, mate did it on steel hardtail with wornout fat tyres for a bit of comfort…..we were both sha…. rather tired 10 1/2 hours later.

PS. There’ll be a 17″ Cove Hustler resprayed with RP23 on the classifieds soon (Orange? may be a while!)

    Very cheap!!!

Made my choice. There was a late charge for the pro Mega gang. But with better warranty, more compatable fork size and gut feeling, it’s gonna be a 17″ 5 in black (white forks) with maxle rear end and Hope reducer headset.

    Thanks for the great response!!

Where’s me coat and van keys….?

Wrecker, bit more to it than that. Been looking and pondering for months….Hecklers, El Gapos, Coverts, Ariels, Butcher even sod it I’ll stick with the 456. Money’s tight dude.

    SO… Mega or 5 ?

    PolisherMan

Yeah I may not be telling the truth about the 5, mates rates….still dear though.
I really can’t stretch to the maxle for a five.

I think it’s gonna be the Mega, it has a bolt through rear, sounds as though they are both similar weight and both “stiff as”, but still slightly worried about the 150mm forks on the mega. They’re not changing as brand new.

It’s between these two cos I’m showing amazing and supportive loyalty to my LBS (and I ride/drink ale with him).

The Mega does leave some usefull change for bits, the 5 don’t.

Yeah looked at the EG, it has the opposite, a low BB. Wonder how it would be in the rocky Pennines with “only” a 150mm fork? Would it be ok with a 1 1/8″ steerer. I have sort of lost track of all the different headset options……….

A couple of years back I started in Ambleside, up and over high street to Pooley Bridge, then up the Dodds to Hellvelyn and back to Ambleside. Lots of tech. ups and downs on that one….

Ebay them. I recently sold a pair of knackered, like really knackered Vans and got £50. I was completely up front and advertised them with worn stanchions (spares or repair only).

Have you got the “old style” 2010 44’s. Think they changed the air pressure (nearly doubled it).

Spoke to the owner of the cyclery today. He’s pretty sure his mechanic used to own the frame, but sold it on. No report of anything stolen around here…

I used a shim in my cove hustler. The frame cracked on the seat tube/top tube weld. So check the construction of your frame first, i would say. If you think about the extra leverage on the 4″ shim, with a “low” toptube it could lead to probs…possibly ;-)

I had horrendous CS on my Hustler. Read up on every theory and changed/fettled the drivechain. One day went to LBS for a granny ring. No 22t in stock, so I bought a 24t middleburn. 2 months of filthy pennine grit… no CSuck. Bigger radius? Who knows.
