It’s a lower leg shortening from having a tibial osteotomy 25 years ago, following on after complications due to a nasty compound fracture.

I’ve seen SO MANY physios over the years. Recent scan of the knee came back with the expected early arthritis, cartridge issues etc. I just get on with that and keep popping anti inflammatory as an when.

This pain at the back of my knee feels like stretched soft tissues damage, running up and down from the knee. I recently bailed from the Bearbones 300 at the 100km mark. That’s the sort of ridding I “enjoy”.

Any recommendations for a good bike fitter or sports (understanding of cycling) physio in the Manchester area?

I’m a 55 year old furniture maker. When i’m wearing my work costume, I always have a 3″ Festool lock knife in my pocket…and I don’t give a flying f@ck. End of

OK, it’s not hitting the frame but with the air out, but the shock gets full travel.

Guess I need to open it up this evening and check the spacers…

    I love that a £900-ish bike is followed by a £900-ish fork!

I had a Keela Saxon. Loved it, very underated jacket it think. Great hood. Not the best fabric, got about 3 years from it. Good value for money. Would buy again.

Thanks all, ended up being Hobson’s choice. Booked into the one at West Bagborough.

    5′ 10″ 32″ leg.
Went from a med. Giant Trance (funnily enough!), which always felt a little cramped to a large Reactor.
It JUST fits. I had to reduce the dropper to 145mm. Reach wise it feels perfect for me, not over stretched at all. An xl could be an issue, check the seat tube length…
    Great bike!

    For removing…
Wheel on the ground with a block of wood supporting the rim.
a pair of stiff vibram walking boots.
Feet on tyre at “ten to two” position.
A gentle bounce, followed by an all your weight stomp.
    Easy!

The route’s great! But I think there will be plenty of people in for a real shock! I think the A591 will be busy with bailing out riders….

Nope, nope, nope. Not for this year’s Northern version of the Jennride. I’m definitely putting on a heavier set of tyres. I had the same tyres as you and they lasted half of my first Lakeland pass.

Hannah, I think you must have had a duff bleed or knackered pads in those Maguras. I’ve got the trails on my fs, 180mm rotors front and back, 85kg and they’re ridiculously powerful.

Might sort of help… I’ve just fitted the Magura Trail combo to my 29er fs.
After going through so many pairs of Shimano brakes, these Maguras are a breath of fresh air! Powerful and predictable. Yes, no random lever bite point. Hooray!

There cancellation statement, what a load of guff.
You can’t race on public bridleways, and they do call it a race. You can host an individual challenge ride, and if there’s a list of times that the riders completed it in….
    Money grabbing nonsense.

I’ve got the Jones bars on my Sonder Broken Road. To start with I swapped between them and standard risers, depending on whether I was bikepacking or just bashing out local stuff.
Now they’re on permanently, as they give me a very comfortable upright position. I find this ideal for things like the Bearbones 200 and any long days in the saddle. My hands seem to just rest on the “Ergon” grips, rather than all my weight being on my arms.
I find the hand position perfect for hoisting up the steeps. A bit comedy on really steep techie descents, as your hand want to slide forwards. Oh, and shite at tight switchbacks, as they hit your knees! But I love them, for what I want them to do.

We’ve been 4 times. We like it a lot! Usually go October half term, and so far have been lucky with the weather. Although you loose the sun quickly drinking beer in the old town square!
We fly to Barcelona and then hire a van or two from Europcar. An nice 3 hour-ish drive.
This is great as you then have the flexibility to head out to different start points. Although for a first trip, there’s SO much to do it’s not really needed. We’ve never felt the need of a guide. The website is great. I tend to download trails to my Garmin, just a back up to the well marked trails. Beware the hunters!
I’ve only just heard about the CATERPILLARS!!!!

I’ve got the Genesis Tarn (steel version). It will definitely take both a 27.5 x 3″ and 29 x 2.6″. It’s a monster in plus guise.

    Pennine grinding paste.
What’s underneath it is pretty much irrelevant after the first “puddle”.

Be careful if referring to the UK size guide, it is /was incorrect.
Unusually, at 5′ 10″ it put me firmly in the medium camp. It recommended med. Up to 6′.
If you check the Giant US site. then I was right on the Med/Lrg as I’d expect.
The med. fits me, just. I think they’re a bit short. I would defo go large next time…

I’m in the joyful position of having an fs 29er, light ht 29er and a 27.5 plus hardtail. The plus bike is steel and built like a tank. It’s the most fun bike of the 3. 2.8 magic mary up front on a 40mm rim. All the grip you could ever need, even in Pennine winter filth. Amazing up hill rocky traction. It’s been out to Zona Zero. Bloody awful on tarmac though! 😅

Giant Trance 29er 130/115mm. The most funest and capable I’ve owned!

Mrs Polisherman was “struggling with discomfort” a couple of years ago. Her Selle Italia which she’d used for years seemed to be not doing it’s job.
Nose up, nose down. Forward on the rails etc… Bought and tried 3 or 4 different saddles. SDG, fabric etc. Even tried a bike fit. No joy
Eventually she solved the problem, and her original Selle Italia saddle went back onto…a new full sus bike, rather than her 26″ Cotic Soul. Simples!

I had the same dilemma, ended up with the Giant Trance 1 (top end ally version). That link above is the billy bargain of the year! Love mine, best bike (for me) EVER!

When we named it “Secret sausage” we only used to ride it during dry spells.
Like everything else these routes are getting hammered now in all conditions.

My “full suss” is a steel 3″ tyre hardtail. Love it, take it to Zona Zero every year, never feel underbiked. Although….. just turned 50 and the back’s starting to niggle. That Cortex looks nice 😉

Lovely looking route, much nicer than the Lakeland 200!!!
I’ll be giving that a go at some point.

I presumed we were talking off-road, what with this being a mtb site ‘n all.😉
South downs way 11 hours. Jennride 26 hours. And some 200km itt stuff too, sub 24 hrs.

Magic Mary 2.8 front Nobby Nic 3″ rear

Wouldn’t use anything else up front now. It refuses to slide out in Pennine winter slutch.

The Slaughter will be perfect, I’ve been riding one for about 6 months. Tough as old boots, but fast. I’m just gutted to have finally found a cut that I don’t fancy risking a 100 mile Lakeland route with. So I’ve just swapped to an XR2!!

So I can confirm that for Pennine winter slop, Magic Mary 2.8’s are the most confidence inspiring front plus tyres ever! Not worried about drag, it’s for having a laugh with yer mates on a filthy Thursday evening ;-)

    It’s fantastic!
The Large is lovely and roomy for my 5’10”. I swap between the risers that came with it for local xc stuff, then swap out to Jones Bars with the same stem for bikepacking. It gives a nice comfy, more upright position.
The brakes are awful! Okish in the dry, unloaded. but any grit or weight on the bike and it’s like going back to rim brakes!
    I swapped the 34tooth front ring for a 32t
