STW is full of ‘legends’. Just ask them.

Well clearly Hora, you must be a much better rider than me, the OP and anyone else that has commented on the steepness of that last section.

Which let’s face it, is what you really want and that is for everyone to think that you da man!

I wish I was you, it must be ace.

And before some witty comments about my typos, they’re just that, typos.

I do know. I have ridden both many times. The last section is hardly ‘flowing singletrack’, it’s arse touching the rear tyre steep.

And if you had passed your CSE maths you’d realise that by the time his pivoted over the front wheel his face will indeed have fallen about 6 feet before he hits the ground.

    @DaveyBoyWonder – true, perhaps I should have said;

“even after 5 years you lot as still sounding…”

Although drinking filtered sheep’s piss is a bit weird.

I think some of you lot need to wind your necks in, you’re starting to sound like a right bunch of pretentious pricks.

It’s as if people who take the wrong line or ride Cut Gate when it’s muddy or use the word gnarly three times are somehow not worthy of posting on the forum?!

    Get over yourselves!

To be fair the last section is pretty full on especially in the wet. So what if he rode up the bank? Would you prefer him to have face planted from about 6 feet up just to stay on the ‘line’ and ‘win friends on here’?

I don’t know if it was his first visit or not but if it was, how was he supposed to know it’s a bit erosion sensitive? Should he have consulted you lot for permission?

That trail is 100’s of years old and I’m sure the pack horses that used it all that time ago side stepped the shitty bits on occasion. I can’t imagine one bloke (or a hundred for that matter) riding in the rain is going to ruin it forever.

I for one commend the guy for getting out there and giving it go and it’s just typical of the pompous, up-their-own-backside STW fascists to try and pull him down for it.

I have the original yellow Dirt Worker and I’d recommend getting something similar rather than a glorified plant sprayer.

The pressure is greater and more consistent so you can spend more time washing your bike rather than pumping the canister up whilst you’re freezing your nads off in a car park somewhere

Most of the comments are about looks and mostly from people who haven’t owned one I suspect, therefore won’t have been influenced by dodgy quality issues.

    I’m not getting the haters?

It’s not ‘that’ dissimilar to the old style Turners, which were considered a good looking bike IIRC. Ok the pivot plates are a bit longer but it’s not so different to warrant all the fugly comments. Me thinks there’s a bit of bandwagon climbing going on here.

What about the Orange 5, you don’t get people complaining that’s hideous and that looks more ‘shed’ built than most! (and I’ve got one!)

@ketchup – thank God for that, excellent advice.

    I don’t think you’re necessarily typical though.

Every generation says that about the previous one. So either you consider that you’re the same and that the older generation were wrong or you’re wrong.

There will always be (and always have been) plenty of graduates who have no real world experience and no idea of what working in the real world means.

I’m not sure every generation has said that. They may have had issues with the younger generation; their hair’s too long, their music’s too loud, they have no respect anymore etc etc. but this attitude that they’re doing us a favour just turning is more recent (the last 10 years or so)

True, they probably don’t have much real life experience but they’re supposed to be intelligent, it’s not rocket science is it?

I think Bradley has a fair point. If you’re not overly concerned about what the degree is in and the role doesn’t need degree level, subject specific, knowledge, what are you hoping to gain from having a graduate?

I recently recruited an Apprentice Engineer and he seems very capable and has got the right attitude to work and of course we have the opportunity to send him for further education in the future if necessary.

Are you suggesting that’s not true? It may be cliched but that doesn’t stop it being accurate.

@CaptJon – I don’t think (read: hope) you actually meant this but it’s worth clarifying. Surely you wouldn’t expect to have to put ‘Please dress smartly and do some research on the Company before coming to the interview’ in the advert, would you?

    poisonspider

I don’t think you are being unreasonable and I would urge you to stick to you principles and do not lower your expectations. There will be some out there that meet the grade, however I feel it is sadly typical of this country where the younger generations feel like the world owes them a living!

Again sadly, it’s not just a graduate levels that it seems difficult to find anyone decent to employ. Not so long ago I needed a Maintenance Engineer and (foolishly) went to the Job Center to filter the interviewees. Sheesh, the motley bunch of freaks and weirdos that actually made it to interview staggered me. How these people exist God only knows. I interviewed about 10 from a filtered list of about 100 and only one was any where near being employable (in ANY capacity, nevermind the role advertised).

My advice would be to seek graduates with 2-3 years experience. By then they will have dropped the ‘attitude’ and realised it’s not going to be offered on a plate.

Not sure how this thread morphed from one requesting help on improving shed security into one asking the OP to justify why he has a shed in the first place!!

Everybody’s circumstances are different, the houses they live in, the type of person their partners are, there disposable income, the area they live etc etc.

If the guy thinks the best solution for him is a shed then let the poor bloke use a freaking shed.

    Some helpful advice:

If the shed is screwed together, drill out all the external screw heads so they cant easily be removed with a cordless drill.

    OP –

You title a thread with just ‘Nipples’ and then request serious replies only.

    Schizo!

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned already, life’s too short to read every post across 5 pages, but:

Have we established why the OP was only doing 60mph on a dual carriage way?

I’d have booted it up the inside rather than get stuck behind Driving Miss Daisy weaving about all over the place!

Just considering the legal position for a sec and not the moral/emotional aspect.

If they don’t contest it their trademark registration doesn’t stand therefore anyone can use it. To some extent they are FORCED to contest it otherwise their trademark is worthless.

Having said that, I cant imagine his shop would ever harm their revenue from using the name by even $1.

Not sure you could actually call some of these ‘super’ bikes.

More ‘nice but really not that unusual’ bikes.

I mean, a Cotic Soul? A super bike??

The Cannondale and Tallboy take it, IMHO.

    @Dales Rider
8O you haven’t bled them when you shortened the hose?? That’s impressive.

Assuming of course your levers aren’t all spongy and pump up like a cheap watch. (Does that simile even work??)

To be fair I have also had brakes that have lasted a similar amount of time and the boiling issue was in Morzine, which is kinda different.

I had Avids in everything since I ditched Hope about 8 years ago (looked nice but needed constant bleeding and boiled too easily for me, even the Ti 6 pots!).

Used Juicy 5s on XC, trail and DH bikes and never really had an issue.

I don’t know why they have such a bad rep.

Are you trying to get be into trouble with mods??

I’m planning on testing the Avids out this week, I’ll post on the classifieds forum next week sometime but it’ll be about £75 posted for the pair, (no discs, no adaptors)

    FOLLOW UP:

Given the fact that I’m writing this you may have gathered I haven’t topped me sen. (@jekkyl: I’m from Leeds originally, are they famous for ceramics?)

I gave up in the end and bought some Avids, shortened both hoses, bled and fitted them within an hour.

I gave the Shimanos to a mate to have a go at and he seemed to have a bit more success, mainly due to one major reason. He used GENUINE SHIMANO FLUID!!

I think the cheap shit from Halfords was too thick and the pump at the lever wasn’t necessarily air but the fact that the caliper couldn’t retract fast enough.

    Anyhoo:

FS: a pair of hardly used Shimano SLX brakes (pre-bled to hell and back)

MOD: I realise this isn’t in the classifieds forum, it’s for comedic effect only so no need to tick me off!! I’ll post it properly at some point ;o)

    How many people have read this and thought;

‘What a dufus, there must be one on their somewhere, doesn’t he know how to use Google? Jeez.’

We I did, and I looked, and…there isn’t one

Sorry fella, I take it all back, it is a perfectly reasonable request.
