    I think it looks cool.

    Well it doesn’t, it’s arse!

Since when has Europe been COOL?? I know it may have somethings that it can be complemented about (eg weather, bigger mountains, some decent beaches, interesting history, better looking birds (in places) etc) but it is way off being cool!

Depends on budget (as always), you can’t go far wrong with a Hope or Chris King if you’ve got the funds. My only advice would be stay away from RaceFace, utter bobbins, I’ve had three at varying price ranges and they’ve all been sh1t.

    Ker-chung!

The penny has dropped, I know the gate you mean. We are talking about the same place. :-)

Horses on the Beast?? Are we talking about the same trail?

In all my years riding in that area (which is a lot) I’ve never seen horses on there. Plus there isn’t a gate at the bottom of what I call the Beast.

    Where do you mean stilltortoise?

Ditch the RP3, I know the Romic is HEAVY and not particularly fashionable but set up right it’ll out perform air any day.

Coil’s the future! I swapped a RP23 off my Orange 5 for a Cane Creek and it made a world of difference.

I made the Push conversion on mine and didn’t notice any particular increase in stiffness over the regular rockers, just more usable travel.

I didn’t experience the ‘trapdoor-y’ feeling either, although mine had a Romic coil fitted so not sure if that makes a difference.

If you do choose to change back to the old ones, you’ll need the old bush kit as well, if that wasn’t included.

Er…thanks jjllpp you’ve lifted the debate a level with your insight into the ups and downs of home made LED lights.

(MODS this has to be an automated posting, surely) :?:

Have you got a vernier? Just measure the ID, OD and the thickness then x-ref with a bearing list.

Where’s Ted when you need him?

I don’t mean to be funny BlackCat but your ‘simple explanation’ is anything but, and I know what you’re on about. :?

Bottom line is for a 13.2V NiMH: 4 XPG bad, 3 XPG okay

I run a 3 XPG Lumicycle conversion with a bFlex driver and a Hope 14.8V 2.4 Ahr Li-ion battery, it runs at full tilt (1A) for about 2.5 hrs. It’s a very capable helmet lamp.

Thomson for me. Is there any other worth having?

Yes, many (if you are capable of individual thought).

Are there? I'll check with my mates to see what I should do.

Also, poisonspider, I heard that Thomson seat posts get worn if you adjust the height a lot – something to do with the beaded sort of coating?

To be fair they do get scratched quiet easily if you are constantly taking them in/out etc. but I wouldn't say they get 'worn' as such, it's just cosmetic.

I wouldn't advise a quad XPG with a 13.2V battery as you'll struggle to get a controller that will operate properly through the whole of the battery's discharge curve.

Check out the voltage requirements for both the maxflex and bFlex boards on Cutter's site for more info.

project – how old are you?

Most of the lads I ride with have either reached 50+ (in a couple of cases) or are rapidly approaching it and they are all still nailing it. It's very rare anyone is buzzing their back wheel unless it's proper full on DH stuff and even then they put in a well above average performance.

We rode it in the ice/snow earlier this year. It was great fun, if a little on the cold side. Plus I nearly killed my self in the car taking a wrong turn up a forest track with 3 inches of snow trying to find the car park. That was way scarier than the ride.

It's taken me a couple re-reads to understnad who (or what) Munqe-chick is!!

Is it a dude or is it a chick?

The penny finally dropped, it's both (but not a pre-op transgender kind of way)!

I only have trouble sleeping after a night ride when I'm covered in nettle stings and bramble scratches. They have stopped me sleeping for 2-3 nights in the past.

I normally ride 7-9ish and have a couple of shandys before a 30min drive home. Normally asleep within 30secs of head hitting pillow! Much to the wife's disappointment ;o)

Parkin clough is the track directly opposite the end of Ladybower dam. I have been up it before and regretted it big time. It gets to the same place eventually, but you are better off turning L then R onto the railway line and taking the FP on the right a little way down the line.

    poisonspider

It comes of the railway line at the other side of the Ladybower dam. (Which you are also supposed to walk! yeah right!)

(The dam not the railway line that is)

Pook – it's not permissive as such there are no signs saying its either a FP or BW IIRC. Having said that it's not much fun, a very steep grassy up, a fairly boggy and uninteresting traverse and a mediocre (and vague in places) drop back down to the BW which meets the bottom of the Beast.

I've ridden the Win Hill FP many times (very early in the am) and can heartily reccommend it.

I got a Team (the ali one) early last year. It was a 2008 reduced to £700 from £1000! It has Ritchey Pro wheels bars etc and Ultegra running gear. I can't fault it for the money.

If you can come to terms with buying a bike everyone knows comes from Halfords, then there realy is no reason for not getting one.

A point to note: if you buy stuff from outside of UK you're not forced to be covered by any warranty. I know this is the case for Fox and RockShox 'cos I've checked it out before.
