Capt. Spaulding – I have indeed heard the original, I love that too. Just like her take on it also, slightly biased as pianos are up there with my favourite instruments and female vocalists are just the best. :-)

Not my usual cup of tea but I have been listening to this a lot for the best part of a week now:

1768ft tall, made out of bits of Meccano and supported by strings! I’d take the cranes any day I think.

Just had a look at the your route map, MTG. Wow, it is different to my usual loop around the Wyre. I feel another day of exploring is on the cards for me. :-)

First time I did the Dyfi enduro. Sunny day, loads of mates, riding the Dyfi forest (including a few bits I hadn’t seen before). Awesome days riding then back to Aber for curry and beers. Awesome.

Whether they admit to it or not the only solution that I can see is going to be regime change. The UN mandate says do whatever necessary to protect civilian lives, ultimately that means removing Gadaffi, as he isn’t going to stop, he’s made that abundantly clear.

I was up there last night, and Saturday just gone. It is drying out nicely, but as expected still some muddy patches. I was on very worn high rollers and they were fine.

I’d say I know my way around there fairly well, but I dont know names of any of the sections so I can’t really give any more details.

It is going to be an amazing season, no doubt. I agree Stoner will win it, but i think he’s cool, so i’m happy with that. :-)

Going to be good to have a Brit to cheer for again!

sadly, i was sent this link a few minutes ago without the dire warning. its one of the worst things i have ever heard. heed the warning.

    Genuinely appalled at that. :?

it’s not designed to be run without the bash at all. the chain guides dont enclose the chain themselves, they use the bash as the outer edge to keep it enclosed, and thus on the chainring.

really not sure how well it would work without the bash.

General anaesthetic really messes with me, feel very rough for a couple days after. I’d always go local if given the choice.

+1 for Iain M. Banks. Just finished Look to Windward and now starting Use of Weapons.

Also recently read ‘Our Final Century’ by Martin Rees. Very well thought-out, and depressingly realistic book debating whether or not mankind will survive the next 100 years. Fairly heavy stuff, but it is very interesting (in a morbid way).

Yup, same size box for 2 new mono m4 reservoir cap bolts…… Slight overkill. Maybe they have run out of jiffy bags.

that would be true if the gender of the first child determined the gender of the second but it doesn’t

flipping a coin, the probability of getting two heads in a row: 0.5 x 0.5 = 0.25. The first flip doesn’t affect the second but the overall probability is changed. the same goes with gender of successive children (assuming a 0.5 probability of either gender).

Statistically the probability of two successive children both being born male is 0.25, regardless of the other factors mentioned in the question?? I can’t see how the answers are any different.

The probability of 1 is 0.5×0.5=0.25

You even say it there. The probability of outcome number 1 is 0.25. I don’t understand how or why you get 1/3 in your explanation. :|

Great film if you are in the mood for a bit of a headf***. It’s pretty dark and psychological, but it is fantastically shot with a great performance from Natalie Portman. I enjoyed it, but I do pretty much love everything Darren Aronofsky has directed.

Yep, i’ll be there. Been a couple months since i’ve ridden the Dyfi forest so I will be the guy on the BFe giggling like a lunatic on the descents. (And probably wearing an AberMTB jersey, if i can find it before sunday)

In terms of tyres I shall be on high rollers. Can’t wait.

The planet has a perfectly natural cycle, that’s fairly well observed (ice age every 100k years etc.). Whether or not we are completely throwing it out of whack is the question. I think that the answer seems to be tending towards ‘Yes’ right about now.

    Now we’re talking.

Wait, there are jobs in Aber? 8O Best of luck with that!

In terms of riding it does depend on time available. I’d say CyB is a better full day out, solely because there are more trails to ride. It’s also a bit more technical.

NyA is brilliant fun, but nothing really challenging. Summit loop with an extra bit around Pendam reservoir is my usual loop. Good for an afternoon’s jaunt.

Truth be told though, I would take Dyfi forest every time. Climachx loop with a few extra descents thrown in, good times.

Hmm, not really the helpful answer i thought it would be.

I have my ~3″ locking pocket knife on me nearly all the time. Needed daily for farm work but tend to keep it on me wherever I go. Always been curious as to how that would go down if i ever got stopped/searched.

I tend to listen to tunes that I liked from biking videos/films, so its a pretty random mix. Some of my faves:

Shiny Toy Guns – Ghost Town
    Santogold – L.E.S. Artistes
    Spinnerette – Baptized By Fire
Band of Horses – The Funeral
    MSTRKRFT – It Aint Love
The Glitch Mob – Drive It Like You Stole It

They all remind me of certain videos or segments of films, so that gets me pretty stoked. :-)

if you want to take just a frame of a movie it can be done using Media Player Classic. Google it, it’s free. Then iirc use F5 (if that doesnt work pause the movie then go to file>save image) to take a screen shot which you could then stick into Word. the screenies are just of the movie. no surrounding borders or whatever.

Regardless of tax or any of that, crude oil is a resource that we have limited amounts of. As the planet’s reserves of crude oil diminish, the price of oil and thus petrol/diesel can only ever go up. And so it should. Should be encouraging green/renewable energy supplies and ways of living anyway.

I’ve not used Pages enough to really decide if it’s better than Word. I do prefer Numbers to Excel though. Both have similar capabilities but Numbers is laid out nicely and I prefer the way you have individual tables/elements etc. rather than a sheet-by-sheet document as in Excel.

I’ve never had any trouble with documents going between Numbers and Excel or Mac/PC, though.

Ok, found a picture. Now i’ve looked at it again it actually looks worse than i remember, there really isnt much left between the holes. May not have been my smartest move.

It can be done. But its a bit of a pain and the final result isnt great. You can drill the holes to fit ISCG05 fine, but because they need to be countersunk you end up removing most of the material between your drilled holes and the original ISCG holes/slots. I did it to my old SRS and used it for a while with no issues, but i woudn’t say it is an ideal solution. I will try and find a photo, that might explain it better.

Very impressive. Some of the filming was awesome. Yeah there was a happy ending Ian. They made it to the ice and ate some seals. Pretty sweet life i’d say.

Glad they showed what happened to the cameras though. That was hilarious.

Vietnam was brilliant, i prefered it to Thailand. Really stunning scenery and amazing war time stuff to see. Easy to get around by bus or cheap flights. Da Lat was definitely one of the best places, especially if you like outdoor activities. And check out Ha Long Bay or Ninh Binh (the inland equivalent), so incredible.

Echoing some of the other replies, check out Cambodia and Laos. Far less touristy but the people are fantastically friendly and there are some amazing places to visit. In Cambodia Siem Reap and Ankor temples are amazing. There is a lot of history in and around Phnom Penh also. Laos is my favourite SEAsian country, with Luang Prabang being probably the most chilled out place ever.

The whole area is just brilliant. Hoping to do another stint around there by the end of this year.
