I personally find the Endura baa baa socks warm enough (and pretty thick). I prefer the Garburn merino wool socks from bikemaps.co.uk but find they wear quite quickly.

I used to go to college with a Chinese kid who worked in his parents Chinese takeaway. He hated it being called a chinky. I don’t think most people see it as offensive. **** shop is inexcusable though.

I have put the battery for my magicshine light inside a water bottle and have then used cable ties to secure the battery to the bottle. its a lot easier than attaching the battery to the frame each time

The only time i bet is when i go to the horses (once a year). I take a set amount for betting and i am prepared to lose it.

I used to go to the bookies to bet on the Grand National and it was always full of ‘experts’ who were all skint.

mogrim – the fact that Spanish girls have their ears pierced at birth does not make it right. I have an 18 month old daughter and she squeezes through the tightest of spaces to explore her surroundings. A piercing could easily get caught resulting in injury.

pik n mix – does your wife dress your daughter head to toe in Burberry check 😀

Babies and toddlers should not have piercings. Only Chav parents think it’s acceptable. Usually the same parents who buy their three year old kids quad bikes.

I often go months without having a drink. I used to drink excessively in my mid 20’s but just grew out of it.

My 8 year old has spent a fortune so far on skylanders / skylander giants.

He could have saved up and bought a decent bike 🙂

Not sure why anybody would call into a coffee shop on the way to work and spend £2.50 when you can have a cuppa or coffee at home.

I enjoy spinning for pike and perch. Walking up and down the riverbank is a good workout.

Rose bikes do a good frame bag which should hold all you need. A bit more manly than a fanny pack 🙂

Schwalbe land cruisers. I have these on my commuter and they are ok.

Wore my Aldi gloves today for the first time since last winter.

They are great and prove that the saying ‘you get what you pay for’ is not always accurate.

I was in Amsterdam earlier this week and found that their coffee shops smell funny and nobody seems to mind what coffee they drink 🙂

I did a burger challenge last week which consisted of the following: –

    Two flame-grilled 12oz beef burgers
    Two breaded chicken fillets
    Spicy chilli beef
    Melted Cheddar cheese
    Onions
    Crispy bacon
    Onion rings
    Giant helping of chips

I only just finished it and did not sleep well that night.

I would not even attempt a 96oz steak challenge. Good luck!!!

I had a Merlin malt stolen last year and my insurance company tried to put me through wheelies. I have nothing against them but knew I could get a better bike elsewhere for the money so I requested a cheque which I got eventually.

I hate the taste you get from cheap bladders especially when the water starts to warm up. I would try and get a cheap camelbak from the web

i was never convinced that pain relief gels worked until i used volterol last week for a sore shoulder. found it really effective. i used to suffer from pulled back muscles a couple of times a year. the physio i used last time recommended regular stretching exercises which appear to be working.

Personally i thing guest houses should be allowed to choose who they allow to stay providing they advertise their prejudices and make people aware when they are booking.

This would prevent people paying good money to guest houses and then being made to feel unwelcome.

It would also mean that the bigotted idiots would lose a lot of business.

+1 for Gatorskins. No punctures in 12 months of commuting. I have just swapped them for Schwalbe Landcruisers as my commute is now 80% off road. No punctures so far but i have only done about 200 miles so early days.

I wear a roadie helmet when on the mountain bike and rarely use a hydration pack preferring water bottles and a saddlebag. looks like i will be a outcast on the road bike as well as the mountain bike 🙂

Thanks for the replies. I thought that everyone used clipless pedals on the road so its good to know this is not the case. I was fine on the way to work so i am not sure why i felt so nervous on the way home.

I have Shimano M520 pedals and can clip in and out ok (practised yesterday off road before todays commute). I think my main worry is leaning right when i have unclipped my left foot. If i persevere with them i will need overshoes. My feet were cold this morning.
