PlumzRichardFree MemberMe and Giles had a good tear up last year around the longer route, 3.17 according to strava.

its not a race though remember. 😉
PlumzRichardFree MemberOne amazing days racing at Hadleigh. In the intense heat it was brutally hard. 7th senior male for me.
PlumzRichardFree MemberI am looking to move my Citroen Dispatch 2008 L2H2 stealth camper on. Rock and Roll bed, Ebber night heater and loads more. 85000 miles. looking for £4000. Let me know if you want more details.

PlumzRichardFree MemberIts a 25 minute steady ride from Roubaix into the centre of Lille and its 99% cycle paths. Lille is lovely and full of lovely bars and restaurants. I imagine there would be no shortage of places to watch the game there.
PlumzRichardFree Memberits not Harlstone fires. You would never get a long enough course around there any way.
PlumzRichardFree MemberThere is currently nothing really there other than some gravel tracks, but the wood is huge and as I have said before lots of undulation so loads of potential. I would say its very dependant how much work they want to put into the course. If they really committed some time to cutting new tracks into the wood (as I think they are) then it could easily be as good if not better than Eastnor or Gatcomb. ( I have never ridden at Sandwell).
I would predict its going to be a good mix of wooded trails and rolling bridleway field tracks.
PlumzRichardFree MemberI am very local (few miles) from where the course is going to be held. I can confirm that its actually a pretty good venue and if your expecting a flat course then think again! No mountains of course but plenty of rolling hills and expect some of them to be steep.
I am actually pretty excited for it, should be good!
I am not going to go shouting where its being held but can confirm that none of the current guesses are right and I am not expecting any one to guess it as 98% of the population have never heard of the place as nothing is really there currently and nothing has ever “really” been held there…with a slight exception but…
PlumzRichardFree MemberI would suggest contacting Extra UK direct one 01933 672170. There is no good reason why there should be any delays or alike…
Maybe ask for a guy called Rich in warranty @ Extra he is usually very helpful…
PlumzRichardFree MemberI too raced BEMC and loved every second, the racing was amazing and the scenery was at times breathtakingly good!
Second time racing a stage race so still learning lots but loved it more than XC racing so far this year. I was amazed with how many British riders there was but I am afraid I didn’t know any of you.
I will defiantly be there next year and as with many of you will also be at the next Scott MTB Marathon. I race in Renvale Race Team kit on a red Top Fuel. Feel free to say hi!
PlumzRichardFree MemberExtra UK are the UK distributors. Since taken on the brand Nuun changed the standard formula every so slightly so its actually more natural and can now be classed as organic and “clean”.
3 different types of Nuun available from Extra in the UK.
Nuun Active – This is the every day normal sports drink (the stuff Nuun has always made) and I imagine you used to use vincienup
Nuun Boost – Normal Nuun sports drink as above but with added caffeine.
Nuun All day – The hints in the word but its just a every day version of Nuun Aktive with vitamins and minerals designed to help you drink more, Nuun are discontinuing this formula and continuing with Nuun Vitamins which will take over in the next few months, its the same as “All Day” but again using healthier and cleaner ingredients that will make it more appealing to the health food markets and so on.
Lastly Nuun Plus – A unflavoured tablet that you can add to any of the above to turn your drink into a carbohydrate drink, 2 x tablets into a bottle and that’s your carbs added.
To summarise Nuun Active is just the same old Nuun you have always used but with a slight formula change. To 99% of the public you can taste no difference but rest assured its marginally better for you and the world 😉
Hope that helps.
PlumzRichardFree MemberI purchased a Direto around 2 months ago, no previous experience of direct drive smart trainers but its been absolutely fantastic, smooth feeling, power is spot on and very sturdy. I really cant see any reason why you would spend more on the Tacx versions.
However I would say its not as quiet as perhaps I would initially lead to believe…
Any questions then fire away.
PlumzRichardFree MemberCustom is never going to be cheap but it gives the freedom of allowing you to build exactly what you want. This frame was build by a good friend who is starting to build custom frames under the name “kemponents”.
I have found that similar steel frame makers usually charge in the region of £700 – £1000 depending on what you want.
The frame was then painted by a company called 7potcustom in Bristol.
This build purposely isn’t cheap as I was fed up with heavy and slow feeling winter bikes, I ride roughly 300 miles a week commuting to and from work and training for MTB XC so it made sense to really splash out on something I really wanted.
Bike weights 20lbs as pictured or 22 by the time it has my saddle bag and lights fitted.
PlumzRichardFree MemberGo custom and build a bike that you will actually “want” to ride during the winter and fits exactly what you want. I just got mine last week and I am absolutely loving it. Based the geometry on my Trek Emonda but added in tyre clearance for 34mm tyres, mudguards mounts, screw in BB and disk brakes.
PlumzRichardFree MemberOnly just realised whilst looking at that lovely photo of the pint that I have had a drink at the Drunken Duck. Lovely place. Thanks for all the advice we have booked a place in Hawkshead but marked this thread for future reference as there has been some great suggestions.
PlumzRichardFree MemberThank you, its funny how you can google places for hours and find very little but yet those 3 places recommended all look exactly what I am after.
PlumzRichardFree MemberBrilliant, I will check those two out.
Thanks for the recommendations lunge.
PlumzRichardFree MemberAs of 2015 all new pedals now have the newer internals, with this all the old “issues” have mostly been resolved. Yes you still need to service them but I get around 10 months of use before they need a 20 minute service.
PlumzRichardFree MemberTop bearing would be a 41mm, Cane Creek part number CHSS2030 if you want a direct replacement. Or if you’d like a higher quality Enduro Bearing one then Enduro part number EB8091 is a nice Stainless Steel version.
Assuming your using a tapered steerer tube then youd need a 52mm lower bearing. Cane Creek part number CBAA0006k for a direct replacement or Enduro Bearing part number EB9112 for a Stainless Steel version.
PlumzRichardFree MemberYep in for 12 hour mixed team of 3, however if its looking like it could be “very wet” tempted to sack it off. Fingers crossed!
PlumzRichardFree MemberPainey I have sent you a direct message on here. Take a look.
PlumzRichardFree MemberI rode the Sram Track last month, its actually been really badly damaged as the winter just gone they had some serious weather that ruined some trails. Best thing to do is to head up to the mast on the road. Then pick which ever trail you fancy back down.
If you want some strava links to some routes then drop me a line.
PlumzRichardFree MemberThanks for all the advice, its good to hear other peoples thoughts on the matter. I have contacted my solicitor and they where under the understanding that the land opposite was owned by the developer, no searches flagged the road had separate ownership. My solicitor has contacted the developer and we are now waiting to hear back. Depending on what they say then I may go along the route of a letter from a solicitor to the developer.
PlumzRichardFree MemberI will dabble..
Trek Emonda 54
Ultegra Di2 with DuraAce Chainset.
Fizik OO Saddle and Bars and R1 Stem.
Vittora Corsa G tyres
Easton EA90 SLX Wheel with TI Skewers.
Garmin Vector Pedals.
Topeak Carbon Cages x 2
6.8kg on the head with everything bar bottles, saddle bag and Garmin.I have some EE brakes and some Jagwire Elite cables to fit that should knock another 150grams off that.
PlumzRichardFree MemberFantastic weekend, one most enjoyable races for a long while. I was lucky enough to borrow a friends custom beach bike, as you’d expect it was near on perfect for the event and a hell of a lot of fun.
Those euro beach racing guys where dam quick of the line!!
PlumzRichardFree MemberThank you for every ones help. I have just brought a bottle of the Nikka from the barrel and also now feel slightly more educated on all things Whiskey and Whisky so perhaps I can even join the discussions whilst tasting rather than just nodding and agreeing.
For the record I don’t really like whisky and I don’t really drink…
🙂
PlumzRichardFree MemberWell that’s a new one to me in regards to the spelling, noted.
PlumzRichardFree MemberThat’s a nice idea in regards to the sample bottles, I will take a look.
PlumzRichardFree MemberHi Dan. Amazing offer, thank you, stag is 1st April so a bit soon but I will check out the Nikka Whiskey. £50 is just within budget so could be a good option.
in other news I just found a 70cl bottle for £35,000!! I’m in shock, who actually buys that?
PlumzRichardFree MemberSmokey sounds good. He like the really Petey ones like Laphroaig.
PlumzRichardFree MemberYep just a firm push, use a small allen key like a 3mm. Also ensure your pushing from the correct side as its tapered so will only want to go one way.
PlumzRichardFree MemberNon TR (Tubeless Ready) Maxxis tyres can not and should not be ran tubeless. Who knows why Chain Reaction have you told you otherwise!
The rubber compound and beading are all very different on the TR tyres, the non TR tyres will struggle to inflate, will loose air over time, the rubber could deform when used with sealant and there is nothing to say the beading will hold the rim securely.
Sorry bud!
PlumzRichardFree MemberI have used a few but found DigDeep Coaching to be fantastic. Speak to Dan Fleeman there, Dan is an EX-Pro roadie but also raced MTB XC for a few years so understands the demands very well.
PlumzRichardFree MemberAhhh no I mean 13,000! 1655 in 14 days would be good though, imagine the Christmas fuelling opportunities.
PlumzRichardFree Member12,345 miles so far, I think I will pass 14,000 before the year is done. How many of those is actually on a MTB…very little. Lots of racing on the MTB this year but very little actual “out riding trails”.
PlumzRichardFree MemberAfter 2 – 3 years of winter training for Elite XC racing I have also addressed this issue this year.
In past years I have lost weight and become very run down by mid January. Winter training consists of 13 – 18 hours weeks on the bikes with lots of intervals as well as some gym sessions, racing CX and then the usual demands of working full time.
Like you I was having porridge for breakfast however I feel this is where the issues lays.
I train in the evening after work and don’t get home till 8ish, soon after getting home I eat a good quality meal made prior to getting home but this often didn’t have enough protein, I would then essentially starve myself until lunch of any protein and even then it would be a marginal amount.
So this year I have started using MyProtein Whey. I don’t have it everyday but use it as and when required and try to add it to “normal” foods. So for dessert last night I had natural yogurt with some fruit and nuts and then a spoonful of Chocolate whey, ok it doesn’t taste great but gives me an additional 20 grams.
I also then look to get some protein in every morning so that can be through scrambled eggs on toast, French toast and fruit, adding a scoop of chocolate whey to my porridge or muesli. Then when training is intensified look at boiling some eggs before work and having one with your lunch.
Its all about making an effort to actively get the protein in, I have found this has really helped my recovery, its maintaining my weight a little better and I am feeling better in myself.
Hope that’s helps a little.
PlumzRichardFree MemberBorn and bred and still living in Northampton.
Going to echo many of others comments, Northampton town isn’t great but i visit about 1 a month if that and in many ways who uses town centres much these days any way?
MTBing is not great but ok with Harleston Firs and Delapree Abbey being good fun if your with locals, check out the local MTB club Tredz.
if you head out of the town towards Kingsthorpe, Pitsford and Old village then you have some fantastic villages with stunning cafe’s hidden away and some great pubs serving dam fine food. The roads out that way then stretch into Leicestershire and Rutland which i strongly believe are some of the nicest road riding you can find in the UK. I can easily clock up 1000 meters of climbing over 55 miles. Also great lanes for a CX bike with lots of Bridleways and tracks around reservoirs.
All in all yes Northampton has its issues but what town doesn’t, but i have no interesting in moving and love what the area has to offer.
If you have any questions then drop me a line at any point.
PlumzRichardFree MemberI also have a SuperSix and absolutely love it, its the same as 40mpg’s but heavily upgraded with loads of lovely bits carbon bits and Cannondale Spider rings. Defiantly recommend the bike however pay close attention to the sizing, mine is a 54 but sizes more like a 56. Also be prepared to chase a creaking BB but this is solvable with a TorqTite BB instead of the press fit bearings.
Lastly if you want my Supersix then its soon going to be up for sale for £1100….sorry for the advert there.
PlumzRichardFree MemberHi There. Dont want to go into to much detail on here but forword all the emails and a brief summery to service@extrauk.co.uk and im sure it would be sorted in no time. 😉
