And the Mazda is actually ok to drive, too. You’d get latest shape for your budget too.

3rd row of seats in a Mazda 5 aren’t a bad size for kids. Bugger all boot space with them up though. You do get sliding doors….

Ah – cool. Couple of other q’s for you then, giant?

What’s the crack with getting prescription only from opticians and ordering my lenses and even frames online? Do you lose much by not having them “fitted” in the shop?

How about mini Trangia with gas conversion kit….you can pick and choose depending on the trip then…

Now torn between YouTube and Absolute 90s!

My big brother listened to loads of Prince and I kind of tagged along. Without realising, he became the soundtrack to my early teens and his lyrics of the time even formed part of my sex education!

I didn’t really get it when he “went weird” shortly after, but that 2007 Super Bowl performance proved he had it all along.

Another back catalogue to fit into my own sons’ musical education…

Jeez – the traffic along the A644 is bad enough already. Hopton Woods and that bit further on my earliest MTB stomping ground too. Was gutted the other year when I found out that the good bit of Middleton woods was fenced off into a “nature” reserve too.

Freeride Spain were based out of Lanjaron going back 11 years. Excellent trails. I recommend the trail back down from Valletta, the peak accessed from the ski village where Top Gear ran out of road. 2h + of decent, ending at Orgiva.

So if mountain bikes are allowed, and fat bikes are mountain bikes, why did anyone even need to make the differentiation and ask the question? Attention whores…

Also, how do you define a fat bike? How fat is too fat for Fred?!

They’d have to going some to make the time cut offs, I reckon.

On one hand, I think Fair play if they can do it. On the other, I kind of sympathise with the organisers if they want to keep it a serious, committed event and deter novelty entrants who take places that a more serious athlete could use (and be more likely to finish the course)

They’re ace for camping too – slip on and off for keeping ground sheet clean, bit more robust than flip flops for the walk down to wash block or showers.

Will admit to not so much of a beep, but a “bip” just seems polite!

Was previously looking at gore-lined Lowa army surplus boots, hadn’t heard of Altberg. What are they like for weight?

Some interesting leads and points well made, cheers.

I do use Merrell or Salomon approach shoes for most walks these days – hence not wanting to spend as much on my “big” boots. I de like full leather though for muddy walks and mountain walks with scrambling or scree involved. Fabric boots are also crap for multi-day use if they get wet. Leather will dry in front of the pub fire in an evening.

really didn’t want the bigger screen

    Been a 6 plus user

Ay? So you didn’t want a bigger phone, but bought the bigger of the two new models that replaced the old phone that you liked the size of. Now you want a smaller phone, but don’t like it because it’s too small and want us to tell you that it is not in fact too small?

Sell / give away local route maps as per Dales Bike Centre. Promote local shop rides on / off road.

Agree with konabunny….I wouldn’t find a holiday with young kids and boats very restful….

Probably worth trying to get a few flyers into GSK round the corner – their cyclescheme goes up to £3.5k plus lots of folk too busy to do own maintenance.

Obvs you’ll need a brake surface on rear rim…….

Ah, sent one to the bike recycling container at the tip last year, attached to an old Kona frame. Did the job – aligned fine. Fugly and heavy though.

Thought about disc front and really nice v-brake or magura rim brake on the rear? Especially for a light rider…

Edit: just looked on eBay….there’s some lovely xtr v’s and late-model hs33s – I’d do that rather than bolt on disc mount.

Bought a Frog 62 to replace a 20″ Isla in the past couple of weeks. Componentry is easily as good and child-friendly, paint finish actually better (powder coat vs lacquered alloy and stickers).

Our bikes have to go through our 3 boys, so haven’t sold even the balance bike yet. The resale pay-off is a long time in the future and I expect the bikes to aesthetically less than A1 by that time. Both Isla and Frog seems more than up for it mechanically, though….

Physio does cycle and has first hand (ie personal) experience of knee and ankle rehab. Didnt mention knee tracking, but will mention at follow up. Was also going to ask about bike fit next time, too.

Would I be most correct to think that cleat position and saddle fore/aft are most important for knees?

Out of interest how much pain would one be in shortly after the op.

Got straight on the paracetamol and ibuprofen and stayed on it. Probably 2 or 3 out of 10 but still kind of felt sorry for myself. It was a stressful time.

Think it was about 3 weeks once my chads built up enough pus pressure to eject the knot of the supposedly soluble stitches. Fine after that.

Yeah quite a few round us have that friction collar on. A squirt of WD or silicone improves things though. Silicone spray also a laugh on the slides! 😈

Modern roundabouts are also often “braked”. Boils my piss….

Trangia gas conversion kit. 15 years old, going strong. Makes the whole kit pretty much perfect.

Little single use packs probably the most hygienic…

    probably available cheaper elsewhere..

Also seem to remember reading that cyanoacrylate is a sensitising agent, so don’t bathe open wounds in the stuff and take extra care if you’re an allergicy person….

Smokers disturbing their clothing in a confined space is probably the most obvious reason.

Bit more clarity on “use by” dates…

Doesn’t necessarily mean the product is deffo dangerous after this time. Just means that it is not tested / warranted after this point.

And there’s a fair bit of leeway in the official testing – it assumes worst case unrefrigerated journey home and dodgy storage conditions thereafter.

I take this approach. 2 big chains, 2 kryptonite Middle weight u locks with extension cables. Lock everything to each other and back round to garage shelves, heavy things on floor etc.

I hope that any burglar would decide it was too time consuming to figure it ALL out!

We got a Trigano last year too. Used it 4 times in a year, including 2 weeks in Dorset. Great to stay in put painful to put up awning. If the time came again would probably go for an empty trailer and separate tent. Poss an inflatable poled job.

Having said that, no air bed or canvas camp bed will be as comfy as the slatted bases built into the trailer tent. It’d take a lot to beat the kitchen too.

So, if you’re staying put for a bit, get a Trigano. If not, get separates.
